For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information if you follow the link at the very bottom of the page

I see.

Erm ... what kind of thing do you think you might like to do?

(I'm thinking if I keep you talking someone else will come along with a whistle and track suit and you will be Motivated.)

thequeenofcontradiction · 05/06/2007 15:02

A kiwi can really be eaten whole? I'm a bit squeamish about kiwis - there's one in the fruit rack taunting me with its fuzziness...

Well I have had some raisins, a couple of apples and some OJ (can't remember if juice still counts or not).

And I have had an hour's walk in the park.

How much water do you all drink?

MerryMarigold · 05/06/2007 15:33

bad day. it is 3.30pm and i have had dried fruit in porridge and 1 apple. Prob 1.5 portions. Will need to DO BETTER for the rest of the day.

no more bananas. got strawberries and melon though.

FrannyandZooey · 05/06/2007 18:56

Ooh welcome thequeenofcontradiction (great name, is it a song lyric? Squeeze?)

6 seems a good number to aim for at first - if you don't like fruit, do you like veg? Personally I drink tons of water because I am always thirsty. I just get a glass whenever I am passing the kitchen. If you are feeling rundown did you see my thread about supplements? I have been miraculously healed by algae and elder berry extract. Juice of half a lemon in hot water has also helped, I think.

Hello anorak....mango here too, yummmy....

TooT there is no WAY I could eat a kiwi's skin, that furry texture

MrsC I will try and help out on the exercise front shortly. Just got to break myself in gently

MerryMarigold how's it going? Did you eat those fruit? What are you having for dinner?

I have survived day with parents and am having spinach, lettuce, cuc, tom, chickpea and broad bean salad for dinner

Aah, thank goodness you're back. Had Mrs C in a holding pattern but then she was gone.

Have had apple, smoothie, strawberries, grapes, juice, cauli (loads), little trees, sweetcorn (loads).

CarrotMisses · 05/06/2007 20:49

yes, sorry, lionhart, the school run called and then there were far too many post school irritants

I need to run I think, I always found that the most liberating exercise, but I have breastfeeding 34 G's at the moment. Ouch.

Used to kickbox but I'm not allowed to do that anymore

lionheart · 05/06/2007 21:09

I used to love to run but that was 20 years ago (in the paper today it said running doesn't harm your joints after all).

I could see the 34G might get in your way a little. How about cycling?

CarrotMisses · 05/06/2007 21:12

does it not harm them? I always thought that was why I had dodgy knees, running on concrete

could cycle I guess, not with LO though, he's only four months

janeite · 05/06/2007 21:14

This thread must win the award for best ever thread title?!!! Frannyandzooey you are clearly a genius!

lionheart · 05/06/2007 21:26

Not according to the latest research (in Guardian today), it actually makes you less likely to suffer joint damage.

What is bad is if you take it up and then stop so that your body has to keep adapting to running/not running. So it said.

lionheart · 05/06/2007 21:26

How old do they have to be to sit in one of those bicycle seats?

CarrotMisses · 05/06/2007 21:27

oh, it's been a couple of years now, I better start slowly.

Can you get sports bras in size enormous?

CarrotMisses · 05/06/2007 21:28

at least a year I think, the jarring on their neck is strong

lionheart · 05/06/2007 21:31

How about a machine at home? Or swimming, or the gym?

CarrotMisses · 05/06/2007 21:34

it's getting there and back if he wakes up, the nearest pool/gym is a way, I don't drive these days..

running would be most convenient

I could just hold them I suppose

CarrotMisses · 05/06/2007 21:34

hmm, a bike at home might be fun...

lionheart · 05/06/2007 21:42

I have one. You can cycle and watch rubbishy tv at the same time.

FrannyandZooey · 05/06/2007 21:45

Janeite do you want to join?

Lionheart and MrsC, very good to see you thrashing out all the problems while I recline lazily and sip my delicious algae

OP posts:
greatbigonion · 05/06/2007 21:47

daft question but how would one start running? I mean, I don't want to fork out for flashy trainers and nipple tape and a sports bottle etc, and announce that I'm, y'know, off for my run before returning home after 5 minutes grey-faced, bow legged and unable to speak for the stitch...

CarrotMisses · 05/06/2007 21:48

actually

my name is carrotmisses, and is in transition

there are too many Mrs on here

little badgers, carrots, whos and spoons running around mnet like Mrs pepperpots

how is the algae this evening?

lionheart · 05/06/2007 21:48

You ought to try spinning a pom-pom round or something, just so that we know the pond scum hasn't done for you, Franny.

CarrotMisses · 05/06/2007 21:49

nipple tape, that's what I need, a big roll of gaffa...

FrannyandZooey · 05/06/2007 21:50

GBO I will leave that question for someone sensible to answer

NQC could you drop in and answer it if you're around pls?

Erm, it feels rather rude to call you "Carrot" after calling you "MrsCarrot" all this time

and I like MrsCarrot anyway....

OP posts:
greatbigonion · 05/06/2007 21:52

oy! Carrot!!!

Yup, deffo too familiar!

lionheart · 05/06/2007 21:52

I don't know, gbo, I have always gone out and got all the kit first because

then it's that much harder to give up without wasting the money/looking somewhat fickle (although I am).

You need decent footwear, anyhow.
