For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information if you follow the link at the very bottom of the page

Weren't carrots originally purple?

Mrscarrot · 06/06/2007 22:25

LOL at Mr Carrot

lionheart · 06/06/2007 22:26

You are complex and should not mock the simple carrot.

If you had been cultivated in such a way that your original colouring had been replaced by a totally different hue, you too would be blue, greatbigonion.

Mrscarrot · 06/06/2007 22:26

I can understand red, or brown, but blue seems so unnatural

lionheart · 06/06/2007 22:26

I think that's why those horticulturalists altered it (over time).

FrannyandZooey · 07/06/2007 07:59

Am wondering if perhaps they are Chartenay carrots?

We have just planted some carrots, but just plain orange ones - there was a pack with different colours but I was Put Off

Am eating orange, apple, pear, kiwi, raisins

OP posts:
lionheart · 07/06/2007 08:51

You mean they aren't watered with fine wine?

See, I was conjuring up a loveley Marie-Antoinette pre revolutionary image and that's all wrong now.

TooTicky, now that I think of it the Sainsburys carrots were more purpley than blue.

They were selling them at around that time they were promoting those supposedly 'ugly' vegetables.

Mrscarrot · 07/06/2007 10:35

could have been chartenay, no longer have the packet to check if I had a WAG carrot

That reminds me though, I really want to see Marie Antoinette. It has terrible reviews but all the pomp and cake and Robert Dudley , ok, not Robert Dudley, he's Elizabeth 1st beau but the one who PLAYED him in The Virgin Queen, Tom Hardy? I luurve him.

oops, I'm married now, um, I like him because of the depth of character, honest...

Kiwi and mixed berry almond smoothie at the green grocers so far. I'm going to a friends for lunch, amazing anyone still invites me with my dietrary requirements, but we're having fish I think with salad, and a beetroot coleslaw that I must make after I go and have a go on the word game. I love that.

FrannyandZooey · 07/06/2007 13:24

I have eaten some beetroot and tomato

I can't think of anything interesting to impart about them

Hello, sorry I wasn't around yesterday, was revising for my last exam, which was this morning. I am officially no longer a student, YAY! (More time for MN!)

Yesterday I managed 6, a fruit salad which was 2, and a salad which consisted of: about a dozen cherry tomatoes, a massive bowl of lettuce, half a cucumber and a few sticks of celery.

So far today I have had a massive smoothie with cherries and berries and possibly some apple in. Can I count that as 2?

Our veg box has arrived so I hope to get loads more portions in before bed.

As for the song, erm, all I can think of is that REM had a song called King of Comedy!

Mrscarrot · 07/06/2007 18:35

unlike you to be lost for words about vegetables, Franny

Lionhart- I think dh is going to be hard to persuade about the exercise bike, he bought me a trampoline that is gathering dust and he mentions it occasionally, might look on e-bay for a cheap one.

MerryMarigold · 07/06/2007 19:00

Marie Antoinette is rubbish. I wasted a plane trip watching it, and I could have watched The Queen instead .

I have only had 3 today because I haven't had any snacks. Will try to get another 3 in dinner and pudding.

I seem to be losing weight even though that wasn't the motivation. Nice.

MerryMarigold · 07/06/2007 19:02

Beetroot is very interesting, Franny. If you rub it on your lips, it stains them and you can have 'lipstick' on for a whole day!

FrannyandZooey · 07/06/2007 19:04

Hmm Grin

Mrscarrot · 07/06/2007 19:33

Merrymarigold- is it that bad, perhaps I shouldn't watch it and ruin my perfect mental image of Dudley?

TooTicky · 07/06/2007 19:46

Not to mention pink wee...

MerryMarigold · 07/06/2007 19:49

well, i guess it depends on how often you watch a movie. if it is a treat, you will be disappointed. if you watch a movie every week then it's worth the pain of the acting/ story just to see the costumes. not sure who 'dudley' was in the movie. if he plays louis then he was the most unfanciable man in the world! if he is the 'lover' then he is quite sexy but a bit corny.

janeite · 07/06/2007 20:11

Have had 7 so far. Might force a couple of oranges down me but I don't really like them.

FrannyandZooey · 07/06/2007 20:16

I had a banana at friend's house

then I had some blood sugar problems due to crap lunch and ended up begging for bowl of children's pasta

I am still on a bit of a blood sugar roller coaster and haven't yet had dinner

OP posts:
greatbigonion · 07/06/2007 20:22

horrid browny banana which i had to force sown as it had gone too sweet and bananery IYKIM. Too many cherries, leafy salad, avacado, peppers, olives, toasted seeds, cous cous and fruit jiuce. And now I am having a vey rare and highly sought after scummy dinner - chips, eggs and beans and bread and butter
but the chips are fat cut oven ones and the beans are reduced salt and sugar and the bread is that funny one with loads of seeds and stuff in...

oh no, aviatrix. that is heartbreaking. did you ask them to retrieve the information? have they replaced the hard drive? i would definitely make a big fuss, they should have retrieved the info or told you they were going to wipe the computer/ replace the hard drive or whatever they did. you poor thing. i would be devastated to lose my photos.

lionheart · 07/06/2007 21:36

Hello everyone,

Not very good 10/10 day because I was at work and therefore had to conduct a fingertip search of the cafe for something remotely edible, let alone healthy.

Mrs Carrot--sell the bounce machine and use the money for the bike, they aren't that expensive (I bet you could even get one through the freecycle thing).

Haven't seen the film in question but maybe your unbridled lust will help you to see it through to the chop shot.

It must be rather nice to be free of the exams, QoC, very liberating.

aviatrix, have you asked the computer savvy people on here about how to get the stuff back? I think I've seen other panic threads asking about the same thing...
