For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information if you follow the link at the very bottom of the page

do you think I'm stuck with Mrs carrot then?

A bike in the front room sounds good, wonder if I can use the laptop at the same time

lionheart · 05/06/2007 21:53

If you get a bike you can hand a little bag on the handle for snacks and stuff.

Grin

*hang

The bike I have folds up so you can tuck it away quite neatly when you don't need it.

oh yes, and am feeling all mellow and connected to my fellow man and wish MN could be all tolerant and lovely and meltingpot-ty. maybe.

unknownrebelbang · 05/06/2007 22:04

Much as I dislike Morrissey, and am not fussed on vegetables (love fruit though) am impressed with the thread title.

It tickled me.

FrannyandZooey · 05/06/2007 22:07

The only thing that is spoiling it for me is Tatties being away this week

she would love this title

Well today I had: a handful of raisins, 2 apples and some OJ. Also some pak choi and chicory.

(And half an ENORMOUS raspberry pannacotta but it did have loads of raspberries on)

So I make that about 5.

F&Z, I love vegetables but can't usually bring myself to eat them before dinner time. I will try to eat better lunches, I think, with fruit and veg.
My name is from a song by Splendid, an Australian band. The song is called Better Things and the line is, "And/I cook in my kitchen/I'm the queen of contradiction/Everything's in working order/Would you like a glass of water?"

Will check out the algae thread, but not till Friday when finals are over...

StrangeTown · 05/06/2007 22:13

Heaven knows I haven't been on this thread for a while...I am going to be sent to Coventry, like they did at St Clares?

Been busy at work and not really MNing, but in my defense I have also joined a gym! Have a special pre-natal programme that I really like and have been swimming.

F&V has been bit erratic, averaging about 7-8 which is still major improvement for me considering what I was eating when I started this. Have still been popping in to see how you are and get F&V ideas - will try harder again now!

StrangeTown · 05/06/2007 22:16

Queen - def agree re veg at lunch. Not really seasonable right now, but we have a soup club at work and take it turns to make Veg soups. I have tried combinations I would never had dreamed of and get 2 portions in before dinner!

lionheart · 05/06/2007 22:29

What kinds of combinations?

TooTicky · 05/06/2007 22:45

Oh Carrotty One, it is possible to run with a 3-wheeler pushchair (as I have found when I am late). It takes a bit of strain off the knees too.
With my rice salad at lunchtime, and pizza with fresh sauce, and apple and apricots, I think I am scraping 8 portions today.

TooTicky · 05/06/2007 22:46

And have walked a couple of miles.

CarrotMisses · 05/06/2007 22:48

can't hold the pram and my chest though!

TooTicky · 05/06/2007 22:50

One hand to push and the other to steady?

CarrotMisses · 05/06/2007 22:54

gives me wrist strain

must go to bed, shattered today

night

FrannyandZooey · 06/06/2007 08:05

Right am working today, but here are the Official Orders for the day

Lionheart - one of the guys did Spinach, Garlic and Cheese, it was not good. Other than that, one of the other guys is an ex-chef and he has made some lovely things with all kinds of beans, pulses, lentils which I would not ususally touch, but I loved them.
