For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

not having lunch...too sad & also dreading going to the hairdressers in an hour...have eaten all my nails instead.

MrsCurrant · 31/05/2007 14:46

You must have lunch, lullabye

< sparks up from a fog on the sofa >

No lunch will do nothing for your mood! I have had a lot of lunch, made butternut squash and ginger soup and had it with potato bread.

I also had the most enormous hot toddy with Armagnac. I can't believe the sun is shining and I don't feel like going anywhere. Getting a lot of washing dried though!

SauerKraut · 31/05/2007 14:57

Hello. Glad you sound a bit better, F&Z. I would have lent you my Jill books (also about ponies) but perhaps you don't need them anymore....
I have not been eating much fruit or veg, just loads of crap, but have been doing loads of exercise. It's easy as we live at the bottom of a hill with lovely forestwalks at the top, and just climbing the hill does very well as a session. There is also a huge network of signposted cycle paths, so we really have no excuse. Our health farm enjoys a constant influx of city-dwelling relatives in search of a rest cure!

filthymindedvixen · 31/05/2007 17:17

I'm back fro Dublin, where I have consumed enoughGuinness to keep me fortified for many moons. Terrible fruit consumption but did manage some nice meals (beautiful morroccan last night)

Have also eaten too much chocolate cake as it was my birthday. Excercise thoug...have walked and walked for miles

No more rum, sodomy and on the lash-ness for me now. I'm preparing a veggie Indian feast for tonight as we speak.

filthymindedvixen · 31/05/2007 17:18

Lullabyloo- whereabout s are you going? North Cornwall is where i have spent the last 3 years holiday-ing

Lullabyloo · 31/05/2007 19:05

Just had my lunch (soup)at 7pm....& haircut wasn't so bad....had lovely head massage & lots of tlc.
Have gone from below bum length to shoulder length....bit of a shock but quite theraputic strangely.

Am going to Charlestown...usually go to Dartmouth in Devon as have loads of friends there & the music festival is fab...but fancied a change.
Ds is none so happy than finding pebbles & rockpooling so we are having a bucket & spade hols, super house & hopefully lovely food.

FrannyandZooey · 31/05/2007 19:21

I have had my first normal day looking after ds by myself since being sick and I have not felt this tired since I was pregnant

I ache all over my body (despite having had long hot bath with Dr Hauschka stuff in AND taken ibuprofen) and I am not sure how I will avoid falling asleep before dp cookd the dinner

sorry for whinge, am hoping for sympathy I must admit

have eaten big bowl of fruit salad plus apple plus banana. Sorry no veg today (requires too much effort). Will try harder soon.

poor Franny

MrsCurrant · 31/05/2007 20:39

hmm, does sound particularly nasty your cold, Franny, in fact seems more like flu?

You need to convalesce (sp?). Did you say you were back at work, is that physical or can you rest a bit there? If you would like me to send you The Year of the Cornflake I would be happy to. Always cheers me up.

My cold is just a cold but very annoying. Such a waste of time. I have had apples, blueberries, butternut squash soup, grapes, casserole with lots of veg in with green beans and cabbage. Oh and raspberry sorbet. Stuffed full of raspberries apparently!

Tatties · 31/05/2007 21:03

God Franny you have been ill for ages! Have you been getting plenty of sleep? Is your period due? That always wipes me out with tiredness the week before. I think sometimes we try to get back to normal too soon after being ill when we should still be resting and building strength back up. Not always that simple though, eh?

FMV, belated happy birthday!

FrannyandZooey · 31/05/2007 21:07

No it is not flu I am just crap I think, I have been literally lying down for about a week and then yesterday carried 3 mini-fridges home , today walked around all over the place doing stuff with ds and gave him a piggyback for about 10 mins, I think I have just pulled every muscle I own

Tatties have had period it was completely unremarkable as usual. I am lucky that way. I am pathetic example and Olivia will never say I am a picture of health ever again

MrsC work is very part time but pretty physical and I have convalesced as much as I can - really, I cancelled work one day, and dp has had DAYS off

OP posts:
SauerKraut · 31/05/2007 21:11

Franny- recipe for a swifter convalescence:
plenty of fresh air every day
multivitamin drink once a day (reputable, from a chemist)
as much rest as poss
steam potatoes with the skin on, then peel them and eat them with no fat of any kind.
Oats simmered for half an hour in just water- I made it palatable by adding mashed banana or apple purée.
That's what was recommended to me by my very good chemist here in Switzerland -where they really know a lot about the remedies provided by nature- after a bout of flu and it really helped.

FrannyandZooey · 31/05/2007 21:16

well that sounds better than mashed garlic and boiled onions and all the rest

I think I may have to go and throw myself at the mercy of extremely clever and lovely health food shop woman and walk out about 30 quid poorer

but she has the BEST HAIR I have EVER SEEN

OP posts:
MrsCurrant · 31/05/2007 21:19

I have simmered oats most morning for breakfast, Sauerkraut, made more palatable with sultanas and maple syrup

lionheart · 31/05/2007 21:19

Hello, everyone.

Have managed to eat a lot of apples, leaves and raisins today, in fact, have been chewing on them all day.
On the move a lot, taking down wall and rebuiding it as a raised flower bed, just like lego only on a larger scale.

Sorry you are still unwell, Franny. Illness starts to feel very personal when it drags on ...

(Perhaps you need a new thread, this one being so sickly and all).

SauerKraut · 31/05/2007 21:19

All those minerals and what-have-you in bottles, you know! I often wonder how anyone can decide which ones they could do with.

MrsCurrant · 31/05/2007 21:19

garlic is very cheap

SauerKraut · 31/05/2007 21:21

Jolly good, Mrs C! I like it with a cinnamon stick too. I mean, I inflict it on my children and then have coffee and custard creams myself.

SauerKraut · 31/05/2007 21:24

But I made up for it with freshly picked strawberries from the field down the road and red currants from the garden today!

MrsCurrant · 31/05/2007 21:24

tea and lemon cookies for me, well, when I've got up too late to cook oats before school anyway...

Tatties · 31/05/2007 21:24

Ooh Franny what's her hair like?

MrsCurrant · 31/05/2007 21:25

Wish I had a field of strawberries down the road.

lionheart · 31/05/2007 21:26

Is it strawberry season already?

SauerKraut · 31/05/2007 21:29

Yes, we're a month early in Switzerland. It is nice to have the strawberry field down the road- and lots of others!- but I do miss what used to be down my road- museums, libraries, opera houses, concert halls...I have paid dearly for those strawberries!
