For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

ooh, I've got an eldar tree in my garden. No berries till Autumn though, lots of elderflowers, make nice fritters I hear!

Ok I heard that on Great British Menu, they served it with summer fruits Perry jelly!

TooTicky · 02/06/2007 23:14

Goodness, sugar is scarier than I thought. Mind you, we never have white. And I do use molasses in things.
Have come back from the big city foot-achingly exhausted and extremely sweaty - will go and have a bath before you all start wrinkling your noses at me. Well, those of you who don't have colds
Have actually eaten lots of fruit and raw vwg today, which isn't bad for a day out.
Franny, I think it's the "broken cell wall" in your wondertonic that I find most puzzling.

TooTicky · 02/06/2007 23:16

Elderflowers are great for tea (infusion for the pedants). Steep a bunch in a large mug - the longer you leave it the better the flavour. Nice with a little lemon too.

I am hoping to see DRAMATIC improvements this week after ingesting all this stuff

I had a cracking headache most of the day yesterday, ached and slept loads, which makes me think I am still ill but I can now put a spin on it and say I am DETOXING

Right I am not too proud to sit and talk to myself on here

I feel ALARMINGLY WELL

have eaten peach , apple, mango, raisins and kiwi for breakfast

elderberry doodah x 2 (don't suppose it count really but maybe it should)

have been too scared to take kiki superfood so far today but am building up to it

have gone strawberry picking and had huge bowl of strawbs, plus lettuce, broad bean, tomato, black-eyed bean, carrot and cucumber salad for lunch

Franny, we took SO much food with us that actually we didn't strictly need to buy anything. We picnicked in St. James' Park which was lovely. However, having promised (somewhat foolishly) we did nip to Redveg before getting the train home. It was usefully vegan but disappointingly fastfoodish. Which I should have guessed. But ds1 and ds2 were hoping for hotdogs....which were relatively tasteless with a mouth-burning relish and were taken home, only slightly nibbled, for Daddy. The stuffed vine leaves were okay though.
Would MUCH rather have gone to one of the places you recommended - still, there's always next time.
I made a nice tomato and pepper sauce with spaghetti for lunch. Have also finished dd2's pear. Um, better go and eat some fruit...

FrannyandZooey · 03/06/2007 16:18

I've never been to RedVeg TooT, glad you had a good picnic though

that Neal's Yard place is my favourite, it has such a nice raw fruit and veg vibe going on

OP posts:
TooTicky · 03/06/2007 16:22

I remember going to Neal's Yard years ago with my mum and stepgrandmother - that wonderful clock! And the bead shop! And that wooden thing with the people waiting outside the bakery, and the sign goes up saying "no bread today", and the people react in different ways, raising eyebrows, and one spits water at you! Oh, memories! Still, it's probably all changed in the last 20 years or so.

FrannyandZooey · 03/06/2007 16:25

LOLOL you would like the water clock on Southwold pier, have you been there?

OP posts:
TooTicky · 03/06/2007 16:26

FrannyandZooey · 03/06/2007 16:28

FrannyandZooey · 03/06/2007 16:33

LOL were they? Suffolk is just the loveliest place ever

except for stolen puppies, of course

OP posts:
TooTicky · 03/06/2007 16:35

Fine You tell me how wonderful Suffolk is and I shall preach the heavenly virtues of Wiltshire and Somerset.

FrannyandZooey · 03/06/2007 18:16

Ah I have already dallied with Wiltshire heavily in my day

West Kennet, Silbury Hill, lovely

filthymindedvixen · 03/06/2007 19:26

I have had strawberries and a pear. Rice salad with olives, peppers, sweetcorn, red onion, feta and mixed beans (with home grown salad leaves, spinach and spring onions ) and to accompany roast dinner, sweet potatoes, asparagus, mange toutes, carrots and brocoli.

We have spent the afternoon swimming and fishing with nets in the river - and fighting off the world's nosiest horse who despite having two whole fields to gambol in, kept coming over and trying to eat our rug, our chairs, my book - and caused the boys to dissolve in grief when he drank water from the bucket the tiddlers were being proudly displayed in...

fillyjonk · 04/06/2007 07:47

god all fkn mighty, this thread is well hidden

have eaten lots of fruit and veg

how are y'all?

anorak · 04/06/2007 08:09

Made a yummy soup for dinner last night. It contained salmon, prawns, chillies, garlic, ginger, onion, mushrooms, green peppers, mini sweetcorn, broad beans, noodles, coconut milk. Made huge pot so enough left over for lunch today.

Went to market on Saturday and bought a lettuce the size of a rugby ball and v v fresh for 80p! also white cherries which are my favourite thing to eat in the whole world, strawberries and perfect avocados.

Cherries for breakfast again!

Hi Franny and co.

I'd like to join you all for some inspiration on what to eat and when...

I have been better the last 2 days than previously.
Sunday - Scotch pancakes and quarter of melon for breakfast. Apple for snack mid pm. Prawn/ courgette/ mushroom stir fry (mostly courgette!). 4 portions.

Monday - Porridge with dried fruit and a banana. Chicken stew with lentils, mushrooms and carrot served with butternut squash. Probably 5 portions in total!!! Hooray. I made it to 5.

Lunch is my weakest link. I just don't fancy salad-y stuff (had celery in fridge for a week, probably lost all its vitamins by now). Feel like I need a carbo load at lunch!
