For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

My profile came back too, though I quite liked not having one and have deleted it all apart from the pictures.

I think I sounded like a wanker.

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2007 21:28

LOL I don't remember what it said, I just remember the lovely pictures

OP posts:
lionheart · 01/06/2007 22:29

They are lovely pictures.

Trollies have an image problem, don't they? They need the Kidson treatment or something.

Another day grubbing around in the garden. Children in their element (apparently) and I chomped on fruit and nuts and leaves all day.

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2007 22:39

Trendy trollies for lionheart

Ooh!

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2007 22:46

you see?

OP posts:

I have a very lovely green leaf print trolley from Habitat. Very cheap but portable. not waterproof though. I always get admiring comments. though of course, people may be tittering behind my back...
However, I had someone offer me good money for it at a festival last year because she was so in awe

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2007 22:51

Ooh FMF that does sound lovely...

I am a little bit a-feared again having just read the small print on my bottle of Kiki superfood "If you experience temporary cleansing reactions, reduce amount used by half or less, and then increase over several days or weeks."

Hmm. What do you reckon a "temporary cleansing reaction" is, then? The squits?

OP posts:
filthymindedvixen · 01/06/2007 22:53

LOL, yes, definitely a euphemism for the squits.

I have just finished my own version of that. 3 days of Guinness and crap meat-heavy Irish food...
normal sevice is now resumed

filthymindedvixen · 01/06/2007 22:55

Franny, you are a woman of impeccable taste - what do you think of my new wellies?
www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1375&threadid=332238

lionheart · 01/06/2007 23:20

Those wellies are ace but would clash with a cow print trolley, even I know that.

Why can't they just tell you it might give you the squits and save the guess work?

TooTicky · 01/06/2007 23:32

Hello everybody
I should really really be in bed but am up frying raisin and oat pancakes for breakfast on the train tomorrow.
Not doing too bad with fruit/veg.
I need a shopping trolley. They had some in the market which I almost looked at but I was skint and, anyway, are they likely to be made in China? I wasn't feeling strong enough for the probable scorn of the stallholder at my ethical questioning, especially if I couldn't afford one anyway. I will walk past them again next week.
I've never quite understood natural/unnatural sugars. I mean, sugar is a plant, isn't it? I tend not to use too much anyway.
Franny, good luck with your cleansings...

FrannyandZooey · 02/06/2007 09:53

No temporary cleansing effects as yet

I await developments with baited breath

Is there spirulina in that too, Franny? The health shops are always recommening that! My friend puts it on her muesli, it's a blue powder.

Tooticky- I think refined sugars like sucrose etc are disaccharides (sp?) and need extra digestion to be a monosaccharide like fructose, or something. I'm not really sure how the refining process makes it a more complicated sugar but I guess it concentrates it. Our bodies are probably more equipped to deal with fruits etc anyway.

I feel very slightly better and have eaten lots of strawbsberries raspberries and apple with smoked salmon and scrambled egg I needed cheering!

FrannyandZooey · 02/06/2007 11:30

Hoorah for MrsCarrot!

Yes indeed it has got spirulina in it and all of this too:

Land Vegetables;
Whole leaf barley grass, whole leaf wheat grass, nettle leaf, shave grass(horsetail), alfalfa leaf juice, dandelion leaf juice, kamut grass juice, barley grass juice, oat grass juice, burdock root, broccoli juice, kale juice, spinach juice, parsley juice, carob prod, ginger root, nopal cactus, amla berry

Algaes;
Spirulina, broken cell wall, chlorella

Wild crafted Aquatic Vegetables;
Icelandic kelp, nova scotia dulse

Enzymes;
(Optimum absorption & cleansing)
Amylase, lipase, protease, cellulase, bromelain, papain

Comprehensive probiotic mixture - beneficial organisms. Includes extensive NSO (Natural Soil Organisms):
A.Agilis, L. Acidophiius, R. Arrhizus, DDS-1 Acidophilius, Bifidus, L. Bulgaricus, A Brasilenese, B.Brenis, P. Chrysosporium, A. Citreus, L.Casei, P. Calcis, S. Cellulasae, P. Dentrificans, S. Faecium, S. Fradiae, P. Fluorescens, A. Globiformis, S.Griseoflavus, P.Gelatic, B. Lipolyticum, A. Lutes, A. Lipoferum, A. Lwolfii, B. Laterosporous, P. Maringlutinosa, B.Macerans, P. Nigraclens, P.Putida, L. Plantarum, B. Pumilus, B. Polymyxa, B. Stationis, K. Zopfit, L. Salivarius, B. Subtilus, B. Succingenes, A. Simplex, B. Subtilus, S. Thermopolis, A. Terreus, M. Verrucaria, T. Viride

God it is revolting. I keep burping algae and nettles. And am alarmed at the presence of "S. Faecium" and "M. Verrrucaria" for a start.

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 02/06/2007 11:58

sugar

types of sugar

and here

Wow, Franny that is some list! Faeces and varrucas too, nice!

The sugar has to be broken back into fructose and glcose so it stays longer in the bowel as well as all the other horrible things it does. Second paragraph in the third link sort of explains it.

MrsCarrot · 02/06/2007 12:00

second section I mean, 'dietrary influence on bowel microflora'....

FrannyandZooey · 02/06/2007 12:06

You know this drinking hot water and lemon juice thing? Well, I thought heat killed Vitamin C, how does that work then?

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 02/06/2007 12:08

I don't think the hot lemon water is for vit c is it? More of a cleansing action?

< off to google again >

FrannyandZooey · 02/06/2007 12:23

Thank you MrsC

yes she said it was to cleanse the liver

I am really quite cynical about a lot of these things esp the algae doodah (all a bit Gillian McKeith for me), but as I said earlier, the woman who sells them is an absolute picture of health and just super calm and happy too, so I am reserving judgement totally

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 02/06/2007 12:58

The lemon has antiseptic properties and is anti-scorbutic (cleansing of impurities) and dissolves uric acid. I guess the bowel is extra cleansed by the lemon, and in turn, the liver gets a break from dealing with all the crap and toxins that build up.

I think spirulina is undoubtably a health food, although it's reputation like lots of things is tarnished by overspeculation. It has all the amino acids, is a superior protein, and has tons of minerals and elements etc.

Doesn't make me want to put algae on my Alpen though!

hmm, rings a bell, Aviatrix, but will have to get back to you on that one.

I think the process causes something to be released in the bloodstream that can affect circulation, not sure of it's name, begins with x.

Waitrose sells both kinds.

Bedtime is being a nightmare today

FrannyandZooey · 02/06/2007 22:26

Thanks for all info MrsC

Aviatrix pls keep dropping in or we will miss you too much

I have had stir fry with tofu, pak choi, carrot, red pepper, onion and mushroom

and loads of elder berry extract (have decided it is quite nice and on googling has been shown in clinical trials to reduce length of a cold)
