For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

just my kind of people

(am secretly incredibly lazy bookworm...but can get sweaty & wobble about on my machine without anyone gawping)

FrannyandZooey · 29/05/2007 14:44

Ooh lovely food, I am

I have not done mine yet, I have had apple, orange, pear, watermelon, pear, grapes, pineapple, raisins (not full portion of each)

and some spinach leaves, cuc, red pepper, toms and beetroot for lunch. Again not vast portions.

FrannyandZooey · 29/05/2007 15:24

Aviatrix it was not just you

sooo, I am still feeling like I am being incredibly dim, and everyone is going to jump out in a minute and say "oh you IDIOT didn't you know THAT" or "oh you IDIOT how could you possibly think THAT"

but

do you fly planes?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 29/05/2007 15:24

I've been pretty feeble today, apples, raisins, bananas, and a raid on the stall where the nice gentleman keeps a chocolate fountain and strawberries on sticks.

(I'll be interested to know what you make of the book, Franny, so do post your review when you've read it).

I am very impressed with the plane-spotting, but I can see you have a point about it becoming a thing, Aviatrix.

PinkMartini · 29/05/2007 17:24

Right.
Have booked my holiday for a month's time and without going down the TMI route am sick of having problems with my er plumbing so sign me up please Franny!

I don't like fruit really - buy it and then it goes mouldy [shamefully wasteful emoticon] but can do lots of veg when I set my mind to it. Have got bolognaise for dinner tonight (DH made it so doubt there are extra veg in it). Am planning on grating some courgette into it and popping in the oven with some other roasted veg and bypassing the pasta completely.
Won't make ten portions today but hey, I'm trying. Some might say Very Trying. Arf.

oh, sorry Avi (feels ashamed at having been so dense and so on as to Necessitate Being Emailed)

PinkMartini welcome and sorry to hear about the plumbing. 10 a day will sort you out I'll warrant and veg are better for you than fruit so we are told - can you try to sneak a bit of citrus or berries in once in a while as they have such health benefits?

Lionheart I will see if I can order it, first.

FrannyandZooey · 29/05/2007 18:55

ah no luck

I will await birthday or similar

Have just cut down a tree which was more than fifteen minutes exercise but also very bad.

I think I might get the book from amazon (have voucher to use) -- happy to loan it ...

FrannyandZooey · 29/05/2007 20:04

Hmm

strenous activity, 15 mins hard physical labour.................100 points

killing a tree........................... minus 500

(yes pls lionheart I would love to borrow it)

What book are you all reading now?

Right then! I am on the verge of joining a health club

I have never been to a gym before... but for some bizarre reason I feel like trying it and I think I need to act soon before the moment passes. What do you think? Those of you who go or have been, what do you spend your time at the gym doing?

TooTicky, no need to whisper about homeopathy to me, I am open to most things, particularly where it concerns getting ds better. His skin has worsened actually

Avi are we going to be in Cornwall at the same time?

FrannyandZooey · 29/05/2007 20:27

Tatties I like the cycling machine as you can do races and I take my mp3 and listen to a series of repetitive beats

I also like the weights as it makes your arms look fab

Yes, of course, Franny.

Can I also say that the tree was falling down because my neighbours removed the hedge that was holding it up and that it was quite a small tree?

Also, have a lovely plum tree right next to it, loads of fruit and I don't mind who takes it.

I love my exercise bike 'cos I can cycle for an hour while watching crap US t.v and take lots of little breaks during the many adverts.

That way I can feel self-righteous (about the work-out) and alleviate the guilt (of the toxic telly).

FrannyandZooey · 29/05/2007 21:42

I hope you are going to chop off all its branches and paint it blue, lionheart

did I say that my neighbour's tree has now spawned not one but TWO copycat trees in our street?

OP posts:
lionheart · 29/05/2007 21:59

Oh, I remember, that was in your neighbourhood. Poor trees.

lionheart · 29/05/2007 22:08

I'd be a little worried if any more appeared, tbh.

I have boggled a bit over this and am thinking midwitch cuckoos, or Stepford wives,

or maybe even that you have strayed into territory belonging to a cult (wicker manish).

FrannyandZooey · 29/05/2007 22:11

There is one blue one and two orange ones just in the one part of our estate

there may be other ones in people's back gardens that I haven't seen yet, of course

OP posts:
lionheart · 29/05/2007 22:34

Some sort of a code, or maybe collective failure of aesthetic sense?
