For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

hi all

...am nearing home hurdle on snotty nose front!

lots of leeks, fennel, po-tatties tonight with mackerel fish...

am going on jaunt soon so fruit low...

name thing is funny but do enjoy double identity use it if need to...

i agree though aviatrix it has been me for too long to change and mine is hard to pronounce and have had to suffer that all through school andall these years, ...now grown to like it..sorts the men from the boys...

nappies..micro stuff...i always feel sorry for the baby veg..it never had a life! and avoid pricey trends for this stuff in process!
sure they are delish though....!

MrsCarrot · 22/05/2007 21:47

OOoh, nappies, I like the sound of those, are they expensive?

Had lots of apples rasperries strawberries blueberries and smoothie with pomegranate and acai berry. Yum. loads of asparagus and salad with lunch preceded by 100 crunches and 10 faux (ok, on knees) press-ups.
Watercress, rocket, cucumber and tomatoes with dinner.

Aviatrix- you're another person who's said they don't want to change their name, there are loads of people now, I didn't realise how common it was. I have to decide soon as we neeed to get new passports but I just can't decide. It would be lovely to all have the same name but I just prefer mine, it seems wrong to be called something different. Maybe I'll toss a coin.

TooTicky · 22/05/2007 22:32

I like the sound of the micro greens - I'm probably too disorganised to grow them though.

Today, I have had apple, pear, chickpeas, lentils, spring greens, butternut squash, tomato, pepper, courgette, onion and garlic. Hey, that looks quite impressive!

Franny, I hope you are getting a much-deserved rest!

TooTicky · 22/05/2007 22:58

Ooh, can I just boast on behalf of my ds1? He chopped 3 carrots, an apple and a banana, arranged them nicely on a plate, and took them to bed with him.
That's my boy!

NappiesGalore · 22/05/2007 23:18

i am the Worlds Most Disorganised Person. and i do it.
costs:
-seed trays (or something to serve as)2 on go at the mo.
-a bit of soil. or cotton wool even.
-seeds. (prices vary).

just keep them watered and in the sun. it may be faddish, but i am genberally v not so, and i only do it coz its delish.

as for 'baby veg not had a life' oh well! thats the way the cookies crumble

NappiesGalore · 22/05/2007 23:19

ah, bless 'im TT

NappiesGalore · 22/05/2007 23:20

MrsC - i know it sounds flippant, but i have made a fair few life changing decisions on the flip of a coin... so i can recommend going for it!

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2007 08:20

LOL yes nothing sinister, a book about ponies, that time honoured cure for poorly girls

do you not go to bed with a pony book when you are ill?

(p.s. K. M. Peyton the queen of pony books)

OP posts:
lionheart · 23/05/2007 20:38

Haven't heard of this particular cure, I must admit. Were you one of those adolescents whose first love was equine?

Had a very good day bananas, apples, cuc, little trees, carrots, smoothie, raisins, and gallons of juice. Nibbled some seaweed (does that even count?) ....

Glad you are feeling better, Franny, have e mailed you about shoes.

kazzia · 23/05/2007 20:42

Wish for a Pony - Monica Edwards - a great pony book.

Have been wondering whether to defect from detox thread to this v healthy one. Pony books may have swung it for me.

lionheart · 23/05/2007 20:57

lol kazzia

GColdtimer · 23/05/2007 21:02

Franny, you have taken me back. Have you gone to bed with Flambards? Oh, I want to be a little bit ill now so I can go to bed with a pony book, especially one by KM Peyton.

Hope you feel better soon.

By the way, sorry a bout being so rubbish and not posting. I have been busy with RL

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2007 21:17

I am NOT better

I am extremely very poorly indeed; I have had to read THREE pony books and a ballet book and I am STILL not better

Welcome kazzia, we are by far the best of the healthy lifestyle threads: we have pony books, Smiths references, leering, and you can eat chocolate etc without people tutting

and more love to everyone else xxx

Ah well. If I didn't follow 10/10 I would probably have pneumonia by now so there

TooTicky · 23/05/2007 22:20

Lionheart, I must have been too distracted to pick up the lentilly vibes in Southsea (too busy following directions, then furtively burying toddler poo )

Today I have eaten tomato, mixed leaves, avocado, courgette, onion, garlic, apple, cauli, carrot, and raisins. And walked a couple of miles.

Bit worried by all these closet horsey types - next thing we know they'll be brushing their fetlocks all over the salad.

lionheart · 24/05/2007 08:36

I think it's all imaginary fetlocks, TooTicky, so it's probably all right.

Three ponies and a twirl is indeed very poorly, Franny.

FrannyandZooey · 24/05/2007 09:17

I am rallying

I really am

have had pear, apple, grapes, raisins

(will not offend your eyes with descriptions of what I have been eating the last 2 days while dp was in charge of food. Dear god. Have made him vow that if I die, ds will not be served similar for rest of his days and will occasionally get a green vegetable)

Dear me, what an ill lot you are

Now let's see, did anyone take my advice to take cider vinegar, gargled with a little salt and sage? Even drink a bit of it, amazing cure all tonic, makes me beter every time. Everyone knows about echinacea but raw garlic chopped into manuka really does make a difference. Of course, getting into bed with a pony book sounds quite a nice way to recover. Maybe not ponies, my comfort reads are things like James Herriot or self suffiency novels from the seventies. Don't tell anyone

Speaking of books, I have book grouop tonight, Love in the Time of Cholera, and I have read, oh, at least the first page! No point in going really.

Back to veg, yesterday a good day with pineapple, mango and lots of berries. Quinoi with parsley coriander chives and lime, ratatoiulle (sp?), asparagus and mixed salad. Dates and dried apricots. Still only a bit of walking though.

Lo's excema has flared up today and he sounds wheezy. I's been a whole 2 weeks of no dairy now, although I ate a bit of wheat at the weekend, so am not sure if it was that or, as my friend suggested, I ate an awful lot of tomatoes yesterday. Apparently they cam make it react? I did eat a massive pot of those sunblush ones, probably about 20 tomatoes in all and then the ratatouille so maybe it was that. Hope not, I love tomatoes.

lionheart · 24/05/2007 12:26

Lots of sympathy aviatrix, migraines are truly awful.

suzycreamcheese · 24/05/2007 12:41

...and FRESH AS YOU CAN MAKE IT JUICE WILL HELP it did me

FrannyandZooey · 24/05/2007 13:50

self-sufficiency novels from the 70s??? please give examples and links

aviatrix I am very sorry to hear you are poorly. Too poorly to read is a serious matter. I know I am meant to know what book you are talking about but I don't

I was totally repulsed by the thing about minced garlic and also HONEY so sorry I did not take any natural remedies at all. I was pretty much at the mercy of dp and all I can say is I never knew there were so many ways to combine eggs, potatoes and oil. Meanwhile everything in the veg drawer has sprouted a white beard
