For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

Good morning and apologies for having dropped the ball lately. I have been straying from the path of 10 / 10 itude and my only exercise has been going on a bouncy castle. I absolutely need to exercise more or buy a new wardrobe as my jeans are starting to cut off all circulation from my lower body.

This morning I have eaten lots of rhubarb for breakfast (along with apple, kiwi, and raisins) but I don't seem to like it very much cold with milk and cereal. It was making me feel a bit nauseous tbh, but I ate it anyway, and now I am feeling really nauseous I think it was the texture, it is kind of slimy. And apart from the large bowl which I stewed last night, we have about 15 further stalks of it, courtesy of our box scheme, so I am going to have to be brave about it. Maybe I could warm it up in the mornings?

Hope everyone is well and finds their way safely to this thread. All newcomers also welcome.

Hi F&Z I also fell off the wagon this weekend and ate chips and takeaways and drank wine for 3 days

Before that I had been very good and althought the scales are not showing much lard shifting my clothes were feeling much looser than before.

I have just had a diet drinking chocolate and a banana for brekkie.

We do need treats from time to time to stop us getting despondent though eh?

FrannyandZooey · 08/05/2007 08:52

Oh I have not got any problem with people eating takeaways or wine or whatever

we are allowed to eat exactly what we like on here, as long as you try to get your 10 a day as well

I also feel that eating like this is a treat [pious swot emoticon]

the problem was I was not keeping up my end of the deal, I have been vegetating and not exercising

Hi every one. I too have dropped the ball abit lately, but my excuse is that I am moving house on the 12th I have also had to supervise all the work being done to the new house, oh yes and I am ill again. Chest infection and Asthma, well I say again, the virus that I was complaining of a couple of weeks ago, as ended up this way. Gawd, it makes me feel really unhealthy to keep posting that I am ill all the time. But I guess my health is not the best
Have been eating my greens when I can, trying to keep my strenght up. Exercise is out for me again, I can barely walk without wheezing and coughing
I will try and post a bit this week, as suspect that it will take us a while to get ourselves sorted the other end

FrannyandZooey · 08/05/2007 11:16

Overrun I think it is normal to be suffering with infections and general run-downness when you have several young children and health problems and the stress of moving house!

Eating greens (and orange and yellow fruit and veg of course as you know) will boost your immune system so keep at it.

We need your encouraging posts and also your stupendous recipe collection, so please make it a priority to plug the pc in at the new house when you have moved

Avi welcome back to the fold and I will happily see your psb and raise you some broad beans.

Enid we are a very forgiving bunch

8 would be applauded I am sure

(however Aviatrix only thinks we don't notice she is pants at exercise...)

I have ignored the Tupperware containers full of leftover takeaway in the fridge and made myself a nice healthy lunch of sardines, cherry tomatoes, watercress, cucumber and olives with a little finely chopped onion.

My bowels will thank me later (not too loudly I hope) !

Enid · 08/05/2007 12:22

sardines

ash6605 · 08/05/2007 12:22

Hi FandZ,not posted for a few days but am still doing well on the 10/10,exercise good also.

today so far i've had my weight watchers yoghurt, with fresh pinapple, water melon and grapes for breakfast and i've done my ten mins on the treadmill at home. going to gym later for an hour so not too bad on the exercise front.

am trying to get sorted for my hols on fridy, detoxing before i overload my body with the all inclusive junk food!! had colonic irrigation last week and drinking more water, herbal teas and fresh juices.

TooTicky · 08/05/2007 13:59

Hello, can I just hijack slightly and ask if any of you nice healthy types knows how to make black icing without using artificial colouring, squid ink or charcoal? Would be Very Grateful

Have been eating pretty well and the children have been requesting long walks just recently, which is great.

FrannyandZooey · 08/05/2007 16:24

colonic irrigation? Now a friend of mine is very interested in that, could you tell us a bit about it?

TooT I don't know, but a friend bought non-artificial type food colouring at the weekend and it was pants. What could be black? I can't think of anything natural, at all.

LOL at anorak's bowels

We went out for lunch and I had a fry up however it did contain mushrooms, tomatoes and bubble and squeak, so a couple of portions in there I reckon.

Come and wonder at my fruity intake

For dinner we had: lettuce, broad bean, avocado, beetroot and cucumber salad, coleslaw made with red cabbage, carrot and raisins, and rice salad.

Then warmed rhubarb cooked in orange juice with rather lush posh bought custard (cold).

Have no idea how many portions all that makes, but I am theorising: lots

Tatties · 08/05/2007 19:59

Today I have had OJ, pear, apricot spread (that probably doesn't count), hummus, orange pepper, and chilli for dinner with kidney beans, peppers, garlic, onion and mushrooms. We have strawberries in the fridge so will have some of those later... Ooh I'll probably have a banana as well.

Can someone please talk me through how the hell you keep a hoola hoop up? Ds kept laughing at my attempts today, saying "fall down!"

I am also very interested in colonic irrigaton... I imagine it would make you feel great but I am a bit scared tbh...

Yes my friend is still waiting to hear...

Tatties I don't exactly know how to explain how to do it, but when you are doing it, it definitely looks very rude. That might give you a hint?

Broad beans come in a pod type thing and you just pop them open and eat them

Greensleeves · 08/05/2007 20:51

We have got hundreds of broad beans at the moment, from our allotment, they are very nice lightly steamed, or raw in salads.
