For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

Yes I will

Have had loads to think about lately so have been putting that to one side but will tackle it this week

Right today have had apple, kiwi, melon, raisins

am going off to do sports classes 2.5 hours. Anyone know a website that has simple sporting activities for very young children? I have no sports background and while I can lead general games and songs for hours on end I am struggling with the sports aspect of this job - don't actually know the rules to half the sports I am meant to be teaching . Still the children are having a good time and being v active which I think is more important really (she says trying to convince herself)

Can I lurk for a bit? Need to sort out general health - bfing and looking after non-sleeping baby taking its toll .

filthymindedvixen · 12/05/2007 19:10

pins and needles can be a sign of circulation probs......

actually just come on here and realised, I haev only eaten muchrooms and tomatoes on toast tody..no wonder I'm feeling hungry! Off to cook spanish omelette (with spinach, peas, courgette, red onion and spring onions in) with salad and pot wedges now. Then some dancing round my front room to Euro-cheese I reckon.

Tatties, how is your ds?

filthymindedvixen · 12/05/2007 19:12

Sorry, how rude - didn't see you there Swizzler

Make sure you don't get too cared away with fruit and veg - you b/feeders need your calories

Swizzler · 12/05/2007 20:00

Calorie intake not a problem, but I struggle to get 5 fruit and veg a day let alone 10

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2007 20:03

Welcome Swizzler, please don't just lurk, post as much as you like

we are especially kind to breastfeeding mothers with non-sleeping babies - you can eat 15 a day if you like, instead of 10

(just jump in and tell us how things are going, or ask questions if you think we can help)

I have had shepherds pie with lentils, carrots, mushrooms and corn

OP posts:
Swizzler · 12/05/2007 20:05

DH cooking chicken curry as we speak . Lots of veg in there

I'm guessing a glass of wine does not count to my 10 a day?

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2007 20:05

Swizzler we all have different tactics but I think it is mostly agreed that you need to get some at each meal, otherwise it becomes somewhat arduous

if you would like us to attempt a menu makeover and primp up your current diet just let us know...

FMF yes I thought of circulation problems, maybe linked with low blood pressure but gp didn't seem to think so

Oooh please can I join? This is just what I need. I lost 61bs before my wedding two weeks ago and have put it all back on since. This is partly due to my no wheat/dairy diet going out of the window but my LO's symptoms have also come back, watery eyes, excema, wheeziness, and I must give up the lurpak/milk etc, although not having rice milk in tea has been a treat! I try and get as many seeds and fruits in my porridge in the morning, vegi sushi for lunch today, and for supper tonight we had tuna with loads of herbs, potatoes, green beans, tomatoes and radish sprouts. Anyone tried these, they're super good for you according to green grocers..
Today was a good day though, need inspiration to keep it up. Ten a day? That sounds a lot!

GColdtimer · 12/05/2007 22:13

I had a chinese takeaway (veggie chow mein though) for dinner. Am I going to be expelled? I did however run to dd's baby signing class today and took her swimming and walked to the ducks. Have also had kiwi, orange, banana, apple and a big salad for lunch. Oh and some juice. Franny, you did say that counted as two..

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2007 22:19

Twofalls I reckon you can count juice as two out of ten yes - as long as you actually drunk two portions. No expulsions today although I will turn the whalesongs up if people get rowdy.

MrsCarrot welcome and how thoughtful of you to even have a vegetabley name

Today sounded like a very good day indeed, you will have no trouble making 10 if you keep that up. I haven't tried radish sprouts, are they very peppery?

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 12/05/2007 22:25

Yes, I was carrotcake, but since getting married I'm MrsCarrot which sounds MUCH healthier! I forgot to whisper about the thai takeaway and champagne last night but that was before the new me . I've just polshed off a packet of fruit and spice oatcakes but not sure that counts as a portion

MrsCarrot · 12/05/2007 22:27

radishsprouts are very peppery, they all moaned about eating them this evening but I made them, ha ha.

FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2007 22:28

I don't like actual radishes so will abstain

congrats on your nuptials

and nothing is banned on this thread so you can drink as much champagne as you like as long as you eat your 10 portions as well

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 12/05/2007 22:34

Thank you. It was the last bottle left from the wedding so that's that, DH says we're officially skint now!

sprouts quite like mung or lentil ones but def have a 'radishey' flavour. I have alfalfa too, meant to be good for breastfeeding? I keep meaning to sort out a sprouter.

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 14:28

Good afternoon 10 / 10 ers

we seem particularly thin on the ground this weekend

I have been planting some lettuces with ds - I think we should get a good crop as the packet slipped and about 200 seeds fell in a 2 foot area

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 14:29

MrsCarrot I have a sprouter but am crap at using it
