For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

thanks Frannyandzooey!
Currently trying to find out how to roast chicken breasts! I am attempting to do a healthy roast, if there is such a thing!

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 15:05

Ah sorry I can't help you there

Overrun would be your woman I think but she is busy moving atm

PavlovtheCat · 13/05/2007 15:10

Yes your probably right, I shall grill!

TooTicky · 13/05/2007 17:20

Quick hello! I've been eating lots of salads, with a distinct emphasis on raw beetroot (well, I found four in the cupboard going squashy - still nice and juicy and crisp though).

filthymindedvixen · 13/05/2007 17:24

ok, 'healthy' roasting chickens...take skin off, use olive oil then at least it's 'good' fats.

But as chicken breast are quite small, I'd wrap them in tine foil fir 30 mins, then talke foil off for last 10 mins. You could do a tray of roasted root veg with it, sweet potatoes, parsnips, celery, carrots, cherry toms, peppers etc...

filthymindedvixen · 13/05/2007 17:25

And make sure chicken is free range (therefore the actual chicken is healthy IFSWIM!)

Evening all

I am reporting a consumption of baked beans with my dinner

er

that's it

(dp in charge of cooking tonight)

OP posts:
GColdtimer · 13/05/2007 18:34

Just baked beans? Nothing else? No toast, no potato. Just beans?

GColdtimer · 13/05/2007 18:35

Not that I am one to judge, dp also in charge of cooking and nothing on the go as of yet. I did hear murmers of "the chippy is open" though so perhaps I'd better get the can opener out and join you.

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 18:39

LOL twofalls I was just reporting on the fruit and veg element - beans was the only vegetable we had.

Hey all!
Thanks for the tips FMV, however I already cooked it before I read your post! I grilled them in the end, just plain with olive oil and cracked pepper. I thought it safest as everything else I thought of was fattening! They were indeed free range, and I did do a tray of veggies with it too! I did courgette, red and green peppers and carrot. I also did cauliflower cheese, made with wholemeal flour, olive oil instead of butter and skimmed milk (from GI book).
DD had her first plate of real food! She has also learnt how to play peekaboo so the plate ended up being used to hide her face and contents ended in her lap but she had fun!
It was very healthy apart from yorkies, which I did make myself with skimmed milk and wholemeal flour.

Along with three bits of fruit, I am 'amost' there today with my 10 a day!
AND i have drank almost 3 pints of water .
AS you all dont know me, or my diet very well, take it from me, it was an impressive effort today!

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 20:25

Pavlov the F+V sounds fantastic, well done. I think I had better be drummed out of town if I don't pull my socks up this week though. The newcomers are putting me to shame.

I am eating curried cauliflower, mushrooms, broad beans, onions, garlic (masses of it, enough to be a portion)leeks, tomatoes and mange tout.

The mange tout, broad beans, onions and garlic were all picked at my organic allotment less than 3 hours ago

have also had two apples and a glass of orange juice today.

PavlovtheCat · 13/05/2007 20:32

Franny - lol, I did not include what else I ate tho
as well as all the healthy stuff, and a large glass of appple juice, I also drank 5 cups of coffee, and 4 crumpets with butter/jam/peanut butter again!
(oh and porridge).

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 20:35

I am sorry ladies but Greeny takes the teacher's pet award this week by a fair margin

did they still have mud clinging to their roots I hope Greeny?

bit much garlic though

Pavlov YOU CAN EAT WHAT YOU WANT ON HERE AS LONG AS YOU GET YOUR TEN A DAY. We will not be sniffy about it. Them's the rules.

Greensleeves · 13/05/2007 20:36

Oh yes, lots and lots of mud, bits of this curry are decidedly gritty

Tatties · 13/05/2007 20:37

Hello... Today I have had prune juice, grapes, strawberries, 2 satsumas and made curry for dinner with lentils, chickpeas, courgette, mushroom, tomatoes... so I've done ok. Dp out on the bike doing the exercise bit for me

FMV, ds is ok, thanks for asking... I'm finding everything Hard Work with him atm though. I don't know if it's just being two or he's still not quite right after being ill but he is just so contrary! I've been feeling a bit down so he's probably picking up on that too. Had Morrissey dvd on this afternoon though to try and cheer me up Jesus that man is GORGEOUS

PavlovtheCat · 13/05/2007 22:15

rhubarb pie. That counts right?

PavlovtheCat · 13/05/2007 22:15

Helloo. Dd2 is sleeping companionably in my lap and I'm very hungry. Don't want to disturb her though and we're out of one-handed fruit. May have to eat unsuitable foods.
