For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information here (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

ash6605 · 08/05/2007 23:28

oh soz-hadn't read that thread.didn't know that about worms.thought they were just what dirty mingers get when they don't wash their handsafter taking a crap!!

TooTicky · 08/05/2007 23:42

Actually, that's kinda what I thought for years. Well, I remember somebody telling me when I was little that they lived on public toilet seats. And I've never really had cause to think/find out about them until recently.

FrannyandZooey · 09/05/2007 07:42

TooTicky you certainly have outdone yourself this time

links?

(gawd this thread is only 1 day old and we have colonic irrigation, sodomy by aging rock stars, and now benign threadworms)

This morning I am eating: apple, grapes, strawberries, and raisins

ds is listening to Nurse Matilda and I am worrying that it might not be very suitable

OP posts:
suzycreamcheese · 09/05/2007 10:41

lunch will be pasta with tuna and tomato sacue and salad, hmmm need to add a veg in there somewhere, does garlic cuont?

GColdtimer · 09/05/2007 10:48

Sounds lovely. Does the tomato sauce and salad not count as veg? But I think garlic does count.

GColdtimer · 09/05/2007 10:48

And I was wondering about Nurse Matilda.

Enid · 09/05/2007 10:49

yes tom sauce and salad

so thats what, 6?

then I'' probably have 2 more veg with supper

so still only 8

GColdtimer · 09/05/2007 10:55

Yes, sorry, can't count. Can't you chuck a bit of grated carrot on your salad?

Overrun · 09/05/2007 10:56

Blimey, as Franny said, not bad going to have two different varietys of stones and colonic irrigation and one of my favourite vegs discussed at great lenght.
I have always fancied this colonic irrigation thing, I think it would feel so cleansing some how. Although I am not really persuaded as to the science bit about it. Sure it would be too expensive for me though
Broad beans, the great debate. I personally agree with whoever said that you can get away without popping them out of their skins when young, but they are nice naked so as to speak.
Last night I had pizza (not so good) with a lovely salad of cos lettuce, radishes, cherry tomatoes and wet garlic. Very yummy
Today we are having lentils for lunch. I am not cooking much cos half my cooking untensils are in the new house, and I aint really got the time
Can I do a straw poll about peoples broadbands (I know not every one has them) Currently we have Tiscali, which seem fine, but we have been trying to change to a cheaper deal, and its so confusing. AOL had a good deal, but people say they are the devils spawn. Any recommendations?

Enid · 09/05/2007 11:04

twofalls good idea re carrot

it does make you think this 10 veg lark

and am doing pilates tonight (verrry carefully as have a strained shoulder) so thats my excercies sorted Halo)

GColdtimer · 09/05/2007 11:10

Its bloomin hard to be honest. Not sure I can fit it all in. Now does hoovering the stairs of a 3 storey house count as exercise? Because that is what I am bout to do in an diversion from doing any paid work.

suzycreamcheese · 09/05/2007 11:26

twofalls..sounds like real excercise to me..i defo count it..
do you / anyone know how ican get rid of this flab belly thing???
please help am in the mood to do something about it and need instruction...will i have to doit forever..suppose no bad thing...HELP

Overrun · 09/05/2007 11:30

Aviatrix - bad news about the migraines I still seem to be reasonably clear although had a sort of one on Saturday morning, but to be fair the tablets sorted it out if that is what is was. Because the Dr says don't hesitate just take the tablets if you are in the slightest doubt, I never know if they are working or if I was going to have a migraine anyway just a headache iyswim

TooTicky · 09/05/2007 12:34

Sorry, Franny, links are not forthcoming just now - I don't get all my information from the net, y'know - and I have a birthday cake to panic about.
Have just had a salad of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, radish, pepper, mushroom and avocado.

TooTicky · 09/05/2007 12:34

scc, I have belly flab too

suzycreamcheese · 09/05/2007 16:06

what to do tooticky?
i need to do something, three years have passed its got to go bit slimmer shomehow...

what can we do guys????

FrannyandZooey · 09/05/2007 18:34

Nurse Matilda - relentless mischief indeed. I have it on good authority that it has been made into a film called Nanny Mc Phee but I wouldn't know about that. We have it on a story tape and ds is enjoying it with wild enthusiasm which is usually a Bad Sign

TooT don't get all your information from the net? [complete confusion and disbelief] Are you making a birthday cake for Cod?

Suzy if you have weight to lose and you lose it, it will come off your belly. If you are slim elsewhere and just have belly flab, you can try to tone it up....but let's be realistic here.

I have belly flab. I mean big stinking deal. A baby lived in there.

Eating 10 a day and exercising with help with weight loss and improve your general appearance. Do you need style advice on How To Disguise Belly Flab?

Enid I am sure garlic counts but am a bit scared at how much you might need to count as a portion.

Overrun we are with Pipex (don't know how ethical they are dp arranged it) and we pay about 32 quid a month for our landline, all our phone calls and broadband.

Twofalls all that hoovering sounds extremely challenging and impressive. Have you considered doing as my sister does and having a hoover on each floor so you don't have to carry it up and down stairs? (unbelievable I am not kidding here)

FrannyandZooey · 09/05/2007 18:38

I have eaten: loads of beetroot, a lentilly salad, mushrooms and pak choi and lots of mysterious things from a "stir fry pack" that came with our box scheme. It had edible flowers in

am just about to eat huge lump of chocolate cake. Have a headachey cold and feel rank.

OP posts:
TooTicky · 09/05/2007 19:26

Good Cod, no! It's for ds1. He's very keen on a character called Ben 10 (key colours black, white and green). Please think of me and my spinach icing.
SCC, I think a regimented course of sit-ups would help but it's not easy finding a time to do them. Certainly couldn't do it with witnesses, except maybe dd2 who no doubt would find the whole thing highly amusing and come and sit companionably on my middle. And our carpet is evilly hideous - not the sort one chooses to lie on at all. Ho hum.

GColdtimer · 09/05/2007 19:43

Really franny, a hoover on every floor? My, that's lazy.

I have had banana, apple, orange as snacks watercress and beetroot salad and have just tucked into a stirfry with courgette, spring greens, cabbage, onion, leeks and peas. I know its a bit random but I am using up my veggie box... Gawd knows how many portions that is but it feels like a lot.

And Suzy, have you tried pilates? Not a quick fix though I am afraid. Take ages to see results but it does work.

GColdtimer · 09/05/2007 19:57

Oh, and hope you feel better soon Franny. The chocolate cake should help.

Tatties · 09/05/2007 21:38

Evening

I have had prune juice, grapes, 2 clementines, hummus, carrot, courgette and mushrooms. Probably have some more fruit in a minute.

I have a note to excuse me from exercise as I am being allergy tested atm (patches all over my back, very uncomfortable) and I am not allowed to get Hot and Sweaty in case I disturb them

Peed off because ds has just got over being ill at the weekend and now poor thing has a cold. S'not fair And I don't know how long my patience will last

Franny sorry to hear you feel crap too. I think chocolate cake will help. (When you are feeling better do you have any recommendations for story tapes suitable for 2 year olds? Ds just getting into this sort of thing)

Overrun, we have broadband with Virgin... £14.99 a month I think. When I was in Tesco the other week someone stopped me to try and sell Tesco's broadband/phone package though, which also sounded like a good deal so may be worth checking out.

Everyone with tummy issues: PILATES! I really need to get back to it, I have definitely noticed my jeans are tighter since I lapsed...

Colonic: I don't know if I would ever get it done tbh... I am interested in the idea of feeling cleansed, energised, etc... but it really doesn't sound like a pleasant experience. And I wonder how long the effects would last for?

And on that note I am off to get a cup of tea and some HOME MADE biscuits [proud] oh yeah and some fruit
