Well, i've never really dieted before.

I've slowly gained weight over 15 years, and, well, lost quite a bit after having my first - although i think i'd been losing 'fat' through pregnancy and retaining A LOT of water. Ditto second pg but not sooo much.

I couldnt say where i'd lose it tbh. All i know is i still have pretty skinny wrists and ankles, so im guessing the fat will work its way off further and further up each limb until it reaches the middle

Pidge · 04/07/2007 12:03

VVVQV - I know what you mean about forgetting the preventative when the symptoms fade. I'm not great about it either. Even more embarrassingly I'd been getting worse asthma symptoms than usual for about a month and was blaming it on hayfever and taking my reliever more and more, and then I finally realised my preventative inhaler was empty and probably had been for weeks. So I'd been effectively on no medication all that time. Oops.

Good luck with the dress, I'm as stubborn as a mule too, so I identify with that!

Went out for 6 miles last night in the pouring rain. the most frustrating part was that all the areas around appeared to have brilliant blue sky, and that dirty great rain cloud was positioned directly overhead. Now getting wet i don't mind too much, but it really annoys me when cars speed past and loads of spray kicks up from the road . Anyway, felt good for doing it, and got home in time for a quick shower before The F Word!

Veggiemummy · 04/07/2007 16:31

my laptop had a seizure and couldnt reply this morning but have another one now.

Have been out for 1500mtr swim (a little disappointing time wise) then ran 7km home.

was very happy and feeling very triathleteish and special until i popped onto the london tri website to check on my start day and time. I am now very cross, it appears only male triathletes under 39 are considered to be taken seriously. The male 17-39 group gets to do the full westminster cycle route and in the coolest part of the day, whilst the females 17-55+ group (basically all but the elites and proven sub 2.30 ladies) get to start around midday and do a short route to tower bridge twice!!! i have done this tri a few times in the sprint distance catergory and it is generally about 30+ by mid afternoon!!! i have never really been one to think that women are hard done by in sport but this is blatantly saying that they don't take our hard work and commitment seriously. we are just there to make up numbers. we pay the same to enter (ok i haven't paid but my charity did and i'm raising money) so we should be taken seriously not popped in the start time which no one wants!!!

Veggiemummy · 04/07/2007 16:32

oohh i think i need some chocolate now, luckily my ds has just woken from his nap and is giving me lovely cuddles

glitterfairy · 04/07/2007 19:52

Veggiemummy can you just explain the tri to me? Do you wear the same thing the whole time and where do you swim in Westminster? how much cycling running adn swimming is there?

popsycal · 04/07/2007 20:06

step away from the all in one triathalon suit, glitterfairy

popsycal · 04/07/2007 20:07

you are getting very tempted

Veggiemummy · 04/07/2007 22:46

sorry about that had to go over to the childrens hospice i am raising money for by doing the tri. also a bit of sad baby boy tonight he is getting some nasty teeth and a bit of a virus.

anyhoo, i'm a two piece girl, i wear a top that is a sports bra but a decent one so more like a crop top and tri shorts that are like cycle shorts but the padded bit is thinner. The only problem is that my shorts while still fitting me post baby are quite low around the waist and my little post bub muffin top doesn't make for an attractive site. Due to this i was considering getting one of those all in one unitard things but luckily my charity gave me a top to wear that will cover the tubby bits.

Veggiemummy · 04/07/2007 23:01

the swim and the run legs and the transition is at the excel center in east london not far from where i live so quite handy. the swim is in the big royal victoria dock that the excel center sits next to and the run is around the dock. The cycle leg i am doing will go to tower bridge and back twice, but the one i would love to do goes to westminister bridge and back once.

glitterfairy · 05/07/2007 07:30

Blimey open water then and in what order? Also how long for each?

I cant do the crawl well, breaststroke is my fastest stroke so wouldnt be able to do it anyway but I do swim and cycle at least once a week and am considering running to the pool as well (not keen on the backack on to of my heavy weight already though).

Pidge · 05/07/2007 10:46

The tri sounds so fantastic - I cycle 35 mins each way to work 3 days a week, I run 3 days a week, so all I would have to do is fit in a bit of swimming ... right?

Mind you I think dp might throw me out if I threatened any such foolhardiness - he is only just recovering from being a 'marathon widow' earlier this year.

Veggiemummy · 05/07/2007 10:58

the one i am doing is 1500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run in that order but there are also shorter distances 400 or 750m swim 20km cycle and 5km swim. New people are joining up all the time and i have seen men and women doing breaststroke although over the longer distances it maybe a disadvantage. for most poeple who do tri the swim is their weakest leg. But if your interested in multi sport and still not sure about swimming you could always try out duathlon which is run-cycle-run.

Pidge · 05/07/2007 11:06

Veggiemummy - if it's not too cheeky a question - roughly how long do you reckon it will take you to do each leg. I have no idea how long a swim or cyle of those lengths would take.

Veggiemummy · 05/07/2007 11:16

well these aren't very good times as training has been a bit adhoc this years but i would like 27 for the swim 1hr 20min for the cycle and an hour for the run, however if it is quite hot on the day i would imagine that run time will be slower. all together with transitions i would be very happy with 3hours total, 3.45 would also be ok. actually my goal has gone from 3hours to just looking good in my tri outfit so really not fussed. My PB pre baby was 2hrs45min but i havent done a full distance tri since having him as the swim in the one i did last years was changed to a run because of adverse weather. so anything i do will be post baby PB

Pidge · 05/07/2007 11:44

wow - I'm very impressed!! And also sorely tempted, but think I might have to wait till the kids are bigger before I get sucked into any more activities!!!

glitterfairy · 05/07/2007 12:08

me too very impressed as well! Not sure how many lengths that is. I used to swim in comps at school but always breaststroke. Swimming is what I love doing and is easy for me, cycling woudl be my weakest thing. What sort of bikes do people take?

glitterfairy · 05/07/2007 12:08

hey pidge we could practice it though couldnt we?

Pidge · 05/07/2007 12:16

Glitterfairy - yeah - and I LOVE swimming. I used to be a breaststroke only girl too, but taught myself a probably very inefficient crawl a few years ago. I haven't swum regularly though since being pregnant first time round, 5 years ago.

My current obsession is to get a swim in at our newly re-opened local LIDO. My other obsession is to ask for a set of swimming lessons for my birthday - but it's unclear when exactly I would get time to do them. I'd love someone to sort out my plodding swim action and turn me into a .... I was about to say "speedy swimmer", but I would settle for "less ploddy" and "more elegant" swimmer!

Although I cycle to get to work, I do it on a cheap old velocipede - the kind I can dump at the station and no-one wants to nick it. So I don't reckon I'm triathlete material on that front!!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/07/2007 13:41

Inspired by you guys - I am going swimming tonight

I think i'll have to do swimming until i can invest in a decent pair of running shoes....

glitterfairy · 05/07/2007 14:42

Right my guys have lessons tonight so will swim whilst waiting and use my new flippers and see if they work on my bingo wings.

AM then going to set myself a training plan for swim run cycle and see what happens.

VVV go for it.

Have jsut got a new four month secondment so will be hard at work soon and need to fit training around that and summer holiday care which will be novel as I usuually take the summer hols off with the kids. Am going to be busy and thinner!

shelly2kids · 05/07/2007 14:52

Hi,

I am new on here and have been browsing through the message boards, til I came across this one.

I took up running again after xmas I am currently in training for a half marathon, in September, 'not going very well,' I might add, but it's for charity.

Just though I would say hello to all you keen runners.

TheDuchessOfNorks · 05/07/2007 14:54

I feel good. I did my 5k run on Tuesday, ached a bit the same day but was fine yesterday. Have squeezed in a 2k run today but too busy to do more. Will do a 5k run again tomorrow and have the weekend off.

Pre-school breaks up next week. I've only just realised that it will be really hard to keep up the running through the summer holidays when all 3 DCs are home all day. I don't like running in the evening as much.

glitterfairy · 05/07/2007 16:36

Hiya Duchess good going and welcome to Shelly.

Off for my swim now >

Veggiemummy · 05/07/2007 16:44

oh have missed all of this. hello shelly.

pidge we have a newly reopened Lido near us too is 50meters outdoors and heated it is luxurious compared to my local which is 25 indoor and cold all the time. It is a bit further than a couple of other pools but well worth the trip and near a canal that leads back to where we live so i can run or cycle home.

bike doesn't really matter i have a really nice one but have been doing this a few years so treated myself for post baby tri's to a nice new Bianchi ladies racing bike. it doesn't get left anywhere it isn't riden. otherwise i have my trusty communter bike for getting about as we don't use a car. For competeing it doesn't reallt matter as long as you have slick tires on instead of treaded tyres as that makes the going a bit tougher. every tri i have been to has people riding mountain bikes as well as racers. really the people with racers might think they are hardcore triathletes but really they have got it easier as their bike is lighter.
