Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Oh I'm so sorry to everyone that has it! I have evaded so far (touch wood*) but I know it's coming for me as everyone in the office is poorly!

I'm extra worried because I'm 7 months pregnant so there's feck all I can do to help if/when I do catch it! Any advice on how to limit my chances?

Couple of the guys at the office say fishermen's friends help them and also breathing in olbus? Apart from that I have nothing but sheer sympathy and I hope you all recover quickly and smoothly!!!

Day 7 for me. I tried going out today as I was starting to feel over the worst and I now feel worse - headache coughing catarrh - yellow green mucous. Does anyone feel nauseous with it and keeps pooing tmi sorry? I wonder if it's because of me taking paracetamol and ibuprofen

BestIsWest · 15/01/2018 15:57

Made it into work only for my boss to email say he had it too and was going to work from home.

He was insistent I went home so I was back in bed by 1pm.
If I’m no better I’ll work from home myself tomorrow.

Can’t stop dry coughing.

LEMtheoriginal · 15/01/2018 16:45

Weekfour Flowers and Cake for your dd. I hope she recovers soon.

This morning I felt guilty for not going to work and like I was being flaky but honestly I couldn't have gone. I managed a few hours studying but how much I'll retain I don't know as my head is so foggy.

I really have no choice other than to go back to work tomorrow but how much use I'll be I don't know. Hmm

DP has taken to his bed. He is usually a complete trouper and holds it together and works through the nastiest bugs.

I did today that this will be refered to in future as "that time" as in "do you remember that time we were so ill...." for years to come.

I genuinely don't remember ever being so ill. I think I must have been but I can't recall

Day 7 for me. Weirdly I've still not had a cough, but I'm getting gross strongly yellow and red snot. Think I may have a sinus infection?!

Went to work today but felt out of it. Came home and cried because I'm so sick of feeling shit.

Leanin15yearsmaybe · 15/01/2018 18:43

YY to the pooing Maggie! All 7 days, anything I eat goes right through. No probs unless I eat though. V nauseous and have vommed a few times but it mainly phlegm and mucous. Not likely to be the painkillers as they would bung you up. Plus I’ve had to do it without them and still have it so...

I unloaded a tesco order today, took me an hour as I kept sitting down, then I had to go back to bed! Most strenuous thing I’ve done in a week. Feeling most snowflake like at present 😩

caringcarer · 15/01/2018 18:59

I hate to say this but I got this a few days after Boxing Say and still feel awful. My throat is so sore i don't know what to do with myself; the only thing that helps is half a scoop of ice cream every 2-3 hours. I am drinking loads of iced water and gargling it too. I can't lie down as cough is so bad and as I have asthma I am struggling to breath as well. I am squirting Sudofed up my nostrils every 4 hours, sucking strepsils. My head won't stop thumping. I am also taking some paracetamol 500 and co-codamil 30 combined tablets i was given some time ago with broken bone and I happened to have some left over. I have had a high temperature, sore ribs from coughing so much and i'm totally exhausted. My family have had it too but shifted it after 3-4 or 7-8 days but mine just goes on and not really getting any better. Stay warm, drink plenty of fluids and watch it does not turn onto pneumonia I was told. Viral so not given antibiotics. I also had flu jab in Sept, so feel annoyed I still got this. I thought is felt a bit better last Thursday and Friday but on Saturday it had worsened again.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 15/01/2018 19:19

Caring, have you tried an anaesthetic throat spray like chlorasept? It has really helped my very sore throat. Couldn’t eat without it!

LEMtheoriginal · 15/01/2018 19:21

Caring that sounds bloody awful. I gave up on the codiene as I had the mother of all panic attacks and I think it was that.

Leanin15yearsmaybe · 15/01/2018 19:49

Flu jab here too caring. Yes I get it protects my family and vulnerable people I work with but every year I have it I’m sick! Hope you feel better soon. Have you tried eating toast? Sounds horrible when you have a sore throat but it helps scrapes off the lurgies at the back of your throat and can help it get back to normal quicker. (True story.. hurts though)

Leanin15yearsmaybe · 15/01/2018 19:51

Oh no lem! Are you like that with all opiates? Hope you feel better now you are off it Flowers

BestIsWest · 15/01/2018 20:08

Anyone else got shivering? And my Raynauds has kicked in despite Central he acting and blankets.

Twistofanxiety · 16/01/2018 03:03

My DD, Miss 100% Attendance, has it and was so ill today, took a day off school. Just got woken up by my DS after he managed to cover the bathroom in vomit. It's 3 in the morning ffs. Hopefully I'm suffering from concussion from my fall yesterday and this is all a bad dream.

windowboxes · 16/01/2018 10:42

Anyone found anything that helps with the cough? It’s driving me mad, up all night with DD coughing too (she’s 3) help! Feel much better otherwise but argghhh this cough

DodoPatrol · 16/01/2018 10:44

DS has it and is supposed to be performing in his school musical in two weeks.
I hope they have an understudy.

Flev · 16/01/2018 13:37

Day 11 here. Still got a sore throat (although no longer feels like broken glass) and coughing (but not from deep in the lungs anymore). My major problem now is exhaustion plus massive dizziness and light-headedness - I can't drive and am scared even walking on my own outside the house. Thankfully I have a very understanding boss who is fine with me working as much as I can from home, but I keep having to lie down. Getting ridiculously fed up with it all by now.

ClinkyMonkey · 16/01/2018 18:24

I'm on day 6 of this horrible thing. It hit me like a brick. Still feel like utter shit.

Eunamechange · 16/01/2018 19:05

I'm on day 7. Am living off ice cubes and lollies. I've lost 1.5kg (not necessarily a bad thing.) Can't swallow. Can't speak at all. Earache. Had really bad stomach upset - 12 runs to the loo in 3 hours. My throat was so bad on Saturday that I couldn't open my mouth, was drooling because I couldn't swallow spit, and was starting to feel like I couldn't breath. Worked out the adult doses of calpol and calprofen as couldn't swallow painkillers. Even my trusty friend Difflam spray was no good. Had childrens' antihistamines and that seemed to possibly reduce the swelling.

Now feeling weak, still can't talk at all. Have managed to eat a bowl of porridge today and that is it. Now DS has a 40 degree fever and sore throat.

Trying to work from bed. Feel guilty as I forced myself to go to a conference last week, at the start of the bug, and probably infected everyone there.

Eunamechange · 16/01/2018 19:08

No normal cold symptoms, but having seen upthread, yeah, green and red snot here too. I don't have a runny nose, but my nose is bleeding.

Eunamechange · 16/01/2018 19:08

And my lips are bleeding. I think they're so dry from dehydration they're cracking. Every time I eat an ice lolly there's blood all over the lolly.

35goingon90 · 16/01/2018 19:39

Day 7 for me - very tired today, lots of sweating too. Still not much snot apart from yellow stuff and blood. Got a GP apt tomorrow as it is feeling like something in my sinus is infected, or at least not getting better.

Worked from home today and back in tomorrow.

Hoping whatever this thing is will either disappear or the GP can help. Got a murder mystery this weekend with a 5 hour drive!

Deadsouls · 16/01/2018 20:50

So many people I know have had this. My dad got it even though he had the flu jab

I just want to ask if anyone has experienced extremely dry lips and sore cracked mouth at the beginning of it, accompanied by feeling extremely spaced out and tired - I just don’t feel myself and I’ve never had such sore cracked lips, and mouth. It doesnt matter how much lip salve I put on

ClinkyMonkey · 16/01/2018 21:18

Me Deadsouls. My lips have been cracked and bleeding from the start. And the fatigue is bloody relentless.

Eunamechange · 16/01/2018 21:29

Me, Deadsouls Lips cracked and bleeding from the start. Now they bleed every time I (try) to eat. Also blood in nostrils.

Deadsouls · 16/01/2018 21:38

Oh dear poor clinkymonkey and Eunamechange - sorry you’ve been suffering. Thought I’d ask as I’ve never had such sore cracked lips and mouth.
Maybe I have got the beginnings of it, I wouldn’t be surprised as everyone around me has it or has had it
