Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

I can relate treedragon. Glad you are feeling 90% better Ruby.

Heading into week 12.
I went for a walk yesterday about 2 miles some up hill and although elated I had managed it, I felt really sweaty and achey after. It was something to get through, not the lovely pleasure it used to be. This morning my legs are sore as if I'd done a heavy gym workout. Pains in my elbows and knees are persisiting.

DP fell asleep on sofa after. He has his follow up chest X ray next week- he is still coughing and doesn't feel right. (Week 10)

Usually I race around on a Monday morning and do the whole house but I'm having to do bathrooms one day, downstairs the next, bedrooms the next - really slow road building stamina again.

treedragon · 12/03/2018 09:41

I’m entering week 9. It’s as if we have all aged into our 80s. Like it’s leaving us with some kind of chronic fatigue.

Buckingfrolicks · 12/03/2018 18:30

Yes to total exhaustion after main symptoms have gone. In my head I feel ok -"right, let's get this house clean!" Last about 10 minutes then have to HAVE TO lie down in a sweaty breathless heap.

Vile.

skulduggeryintheshrubbery · 12/03/2018 18:48

I haven't read the entire thread, but for anyone still lingering on... I'm on week three: razor throat, but now just annoyingly tickly (and once I start to cough I just can't stop until I feel like I'm going to throw up); three days of thumping headache and horrendous neck ache.

I am taking: Redoxon Vitamin C every morning; paracetamol every 4 hours; Lemsip cough syrup every couple of hours. Lots of Strepsils (they do nothing but taste nice). What I really want is some Oraldene to gargle with. BOOTS why have you moved all your stock around so I can't FIND it?? I got hot and clammy going round the shop so I had to leave. I'll be trying again tomorrow.

Tip to everyone: don't think 'Oh I'm ok' and go up to London for a meeting. I had a coughing meltdown at Moorgate (cleared the carriage tho) and only just managed to heave myself home. I am now staying inside until May. Get better everyone x

mammymammyIRL · 13/03/2018 07:10

Into week 10/18 depending on which start date I use. First full week at work since Christmas last week and a busyish weekend & sure enough back to swollen glands & sore throat & headache Sad

treedragon · 13/03/2018 08:24

@mammymammyIRL

How do you mean which date? 18 weeks is ages to be ill !!!!

mammymammyIRL · 13/03/2018 09:37

@treedragon
I was initially sick in November and then struggled on with ups and downs until I fell very ill first week of January.

treedragon · 13/03/2018 09:58

It’s odd how exerting yourself seems to trigger the virus out of remission.

I mean how long do you have to rest to get shot of this and return to normal.

I’m now having visions that this will be some kind of year long struggle.

treedragon · 13/03/2018 10:28

@LEMtheoriginal

OP

How are you now?

mammymammyIRL · 13/03/2018 11:55

treedragon I'd love to know the answer to that. I miss running so much Grin

Ilovelearning · 13/03/2018 23:30

I've just started with this. I have a hand-in for University that would have been Friday, but we've all been given an extension until the 23rd March thank goodness. I've spent the afternoon in bed and have no plans to go in tomorrow. I really don't need this now.

spidereye · 13/03/2018 23:45

Has anyone had lower back/kidney pain with it? The virus came back this week, and have been coughing (not that the cough really ever went away) and my throat has been scratchy. I feel I'm over the worse bearing in mind I have had it on and off since Christmas, but the lower back pain is a new symptom

mammymammyIRL · 14/03/2018 05:25

spidereye Read thiss* it explains why we get lower back pain with flu.

treedragon · 14/03/2018 07:56

@spidereye

The pain seems to be quite widespread and it appears to affect the areas that are weaker. So if you have had back trouble in that place before then that tends to be painful.

The feeling of pain I have is that if a too harder gym workout.

treedragon · 14/03/2018 12:43

How is everyone??

avuncularis · 14/03/2018 14:25

Hi @treedragon and other fellow sufferers!

Sorry I haven't posted again before now, but every time I thought of it I just felt depressed and quite honestly didn't have the energy to try and put this grim nonsense into words Angry

I saw my GP last Friday. No sign of infection in my blood tests from the previous week. He agreed that my fracture site flaring up (spine) could be a symptom of this virus, but sent me for an x-ray to be on the safe side. I'll get results next week. He also suspects the virus has exacerbated my fibromyalgia. Joy!

So, from day to day I'm still quite hoarse; dry throat, especially in the mornings and at night; phlegm, although that isn't as prolific as it was for the first couple of months; reflux, which I rarely get; tiredness, lethargy, and apathy; dry and itchy skin on my neck, shoulders, tops of my arms; aches and pains in my back (old fracture pain has died down a fair bit but the muscles throughout my back are tired and sore); aches and pains in my arms, knees, ankles; anxiety has lessened but I'm quite depressed as a result of the random and prolonged physical symptoms. Usually at this time of year I get my first horrid flush of hayfever, but it's hard to tell where that begins and this 10 or 11 week old virus ends Sad

Generally I feel bitter and pissed off much of the time, resentful that this has gone on so long and basically taken me over. That's how it feels at times, and I wonder if it will ever really f*ck off and leave me be! Especially on the days when I feel like a pensioner just walking around the flat (I'm 51 and not bad for my age. Well, I suppose most of us think that, but even so... Wink )

Really hope those of you still struggling feel like you might actually win very soon! Be kind to yourselves and keep the faith - this has to fizzle out sooner or later, right? Hmm

Bloomed · 14/03/2018 15:10

I've just been prescribed antibiotics as a blood test showed a bacterial infection. Great. I have been having sore joints, cold hands and feet. That seems odd as a set of symptoms though.

Bloomed · 14/03/2018 15:11

(As in my symptoms look odd)

treedragon · 14/03/2018 16:54

@abincularis

Yes to being bitter and pissed off. 9 weeks and still feeling like crap here.

AtrociousCircumstance · 15/03/2018 13:40

Joining in. Unfortunately.

Have been ill off and on for about six weeks - what I thought were three viruses in a row may actually be the same one being reactivated by exertion/assuming I’m ok.

Usually I stagger through colds and viruses and carry on working but I’ve had to be signed off sick for two weeks - and I am only feeling about 2% better each day, if that. Exhaustion.

Fuck this! Had anyone recovered, who can give me hope?

AtrociousCircumstance · 15/03/2018 16:41

Anyone feeling better?

treedragon · 15/03/2018 17:01

At present my awful throat has improved and the vile taste has gone. But I am left with intermittent sniffles and aches in shoulders back and legs that randomly improved and regresses generally on exertion. I feel tired much of the time and feel wiped out from doing very little.

treedragon · 15/03/2018 17:07

And I am in week 9 by the way. The virus seems to be causing a post viral issue where folk feel very tired all the time.

@kikashi how are you travelling?

AtrociousCircumstance · 15/03/2018 17:09

Sounds horrible treedragon Get well soon Flowers

I don’t have any symptoms left (apart from slightly sore, ‘glandy’ sensation at back of throat/nasal cavity) but the exhaustion is appalling. I can’t do anything without feeling like I’m fading away, even laying on the sofa feels tiring.

Am so sick of it. I want my buoyancy back.
