Anyone else have this awful virus?

Day 3 and I'm fucked! I have never experienced a sore throat like this. It's agony.

Dr prescribed naproxen and co-codimol. Can't take the naproxen yet as it's bid and I have already taken ibruprofen.

Not slept at all for 48 hours as my throat is too painful. Had to write a note for the Dr as I couldn't talk to explain symptoms.

He said there is a particular nasty virus that is poleaxing people for up to two weeks . I can't afford to take that time off work.

What I'm really after is self help for my throat - it is AGONY and I am besides myself. If I cough it feels like layers of skin being ripped from my throat. Strangely I don't think my tonsils are affected as it's more central roof of mouth.

The most impressive nasal drop you've ever seen.

He didn't say the f word though - just rest and fluids. Pain relief etc.

Anyone want to join my pity party?

Sympathy with everyone still going through this nightmare in its various combinations of life-sapping symptoms Sad

I'm still suffering with what it has done to my nervous system. My old spinal fracture was hurting so badly on Sunday evenng that I went to A&E because I thought I'd somehow fractured it again (osteoporosis). They seemed to think not but gave me cocodamol 30/500 and the GP is referring me back to my rheumatologist. I've done nothing to warrant the pain, which also appears in the chest muscles and intercostal rib muscles at times. I have a general feeling of malaise still and can never guarantee a virus-free day for one reason or another. Today it feels a bit like a stroke down my left side - face, arm, ribs are a bit droopy and feel gnawingly 'fizzy'. I know, sounds mad but only word that describes the horrid feeling that's there at the moment. It's an anxious feeling in my muscles, I guess, that isn't going away. But at the hospital all my basic readings were normal - BP, oxygen, temperature. Will get results of blood tests doc sent me for last week tomorrow when I see him. I'll be surprised if they show any infection, as this whatever-it-is seems to defy all sorts of reasonable explanations!

So fed up with feeling like shit from one day to the next and waking up every morning thinking, "Let me just assess where in my body the fucker has taken up residence today." Angry

@avuncularis

Sorry to hear you are being put through this. How long have you been ill now?

avuncularis · 08/03/2018 18:20

@treedragon

Hi again, and thank you. How are you getting on? I'd say it has just about been two months for me since I got the horrendous first wave that made me fear for my life. And although subsequent waves haven't been as grim, the cumulative impact has been really tough. And for it to have now possibly turned into this - weakened my already fragile bones - I mean, wtf?! I feel very depressed today, it has finally got to me. Life's hard enough for me and I had hoped (not really) that this year might give me a break, even just for a bit. But no.

I'm wary of frightening folk by saying this is definitely down to the virus, but it seems like a worrying coincidence if not. My original fracture was a very long recovery (osteoporosis in the spine, I've discovered, is like that) and to find myself pretty much back in that same pain and anxiety is devastating.

As I said earlier, I'll let you know what the GP has to say tomorrow. Take good care of yourself :)

halfwitpicker · 08/03/2018 19:24

I saw the nurse yesterday because I have another bout of this sodding virus thing - she told me to drink water Hmm and rest lots.

Because you know, that never occurred to me.

mammymammyIRL · 08/03/2018 21:17

@halfwitpicker such good advice there!
I'm almost through my first full week working since Christmas, and my head is pounding, and I'm a bit sniffly again & would've been in bed at 7.30 had dd not had an activity. When will we feel well again?

Revive Active has definitely helped as I'd none today or yesterday and really feeling the tiredness as a result.

treedragon · 09/03/2018 10:21

How is everyone today??

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 09/03/2018 11:30

Has anyone had diarrhoea initially and then it returned?
Am feeling very fed up with feeling ill. I have to return to work next week and I’m worried about how I am going to manage. I haven’t woken up earlier than 11, for nearly two weeks. How I’m going to get up at 6 is a mystery to me!

treedragon · 09/03/2018 11:53

Yes it does return along with other symptoms it seems.

Autofill · 09/03/2018 12:28

I just got satisfactory blood results back and no sign of glandular fever which I thought it had turned into... its mainly in my ear (bubbles in ear) and a feeling of fullness into my jaw joint with waves of dizziness and nausea when I’ve done too much. Don’t know where to go from here.

treedragon · 09/03/2018 15:55

@Autofill

Possibly it’s post viral symptoms.

treedragon · 09/03/2018 16:59

@kikashi

How are you doing now?

Kikashi · 09/03/2018 17:25

Thanks treedragon
I'm a bit up and down -mostly better from the virus - just sniffles and bit of a cough (early morning and late evening).
However - I have endolymphatic hydrops and it has resurfaced (probably because the virus has weakened me) so full ears, dizzy/false sense of motion, the symptoms always kind of make me anxious/fizzy/spacey - so I'm still mostly housebound.

I also have socliosis - hasn't bothered me for decades but now my lower back where the curvature is , is hurting like hell. Perhaps it's from all the resting.

My best wishes to avuncularis - your bone problems sound so painful. I really hope you feel stronger soon.

How are you treedragon - do you have good news, are you better?

My children have recovered well. They got away with about 4/ 5 weeks illness (but still have a bit of residual coughing and snot too).

Wishing everyone improving health.

Winter has been a write off.

treedragon · 09/03/2018 17:28

I still have on and off sniffles, fatigue malaise and intermittent body aches.

Will be nine weeks Sunday

treedragon · 09/03/2018 17:38

Suffice to say I’m fed up really. It’s been an awful winter.

Kikashi · 09/03/2018 17:51

treedragon glad you are slowly improving. I usually love winter. Cold, crisp weather for walking. First snow for a few years and I had no desire to go out in it.

treedragon · 09/03/2018 18:46

@kikashi

It seems this virus inflames weak areas. For me it is my ears, glutes causing leg pain and my shoulders causing shoulder and arm pain.

YvonneGoolagongsDugongDoug · 09/03/2018 18:52

Haven't read the full thread but where are you all please roughly. I want to avoid this horrible virus !

treedragon · 10/03/2018 17:34

Does anyone seem to find that doing stuff seems to exacerbate the symptoms or make them return. For example I feel totally exhausted from mopping 3 small lino floors and my temperature has risen.

I am really pretty fed up now.

How is everyone?

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 10/03/2018 20:30

I’m supposed to be returning to wool mot. Getting to a vets appointment for 11.30 wiped me out. Went back to bed and slept for 2 hours.

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 10/03/2018 20:31

Wool mot should be Monday!

Bloomed · 11/03/2018 02:50

Am interested that this causes inflammation in odd places. I've had flu like symptoms, chest pain and sore throat plus a very swollen elbow and shoulder. Maybe it's all part of same thing.

treedragon · 11/03/2018 16:45

@avuncularis

How is your painful back now?

RubySlippers77 · 11/03/2018 23:49

I definitely got tired very quickly treedragon - not as bad now but at one point a 10 minute walk to the shops would leave me shaking and needing a long sit down!

I'd say I'm 90% better now but am entering week 11. Can't believe how long this virus lasts Shock

treedragon · 12/03/2018 07:17

Saturday I hoovered, cleaned bathroom, washed four small hard floors. I had to rest during each task and each task was slow.

That evening I felt really achey. Like I’d been to a gym or something and my throat felt sore. I was also very tired.

It’s mad. Can anyone relate?

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 12/03/2018 07:51

I can. I managed to take my dog to the vets at 11.30 on Saturday. Slept for 2 hours after.
