For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information \link{http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Policyandguidance/Healthandsocialcaretopics/FiveADay/FiveADaygeneralinformation/DH_4001494 \here} (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

TooTricky, dont tell me scary things about humzingers!!! Do i have to put them with fruit shoots and nestle in the room 101 of food?? (please dont say yes!!)

TooTicky · 19/04/2007 20:06

God no, they're not that bad. I do personally avoid sulphur dioxide though.

sarz · 19/04/2007 20:10

phew!! luckily dont have them to often, just when i have big day trips and need children to be quiet on tube etc!! plus i rather like them when i have sweet cravings which sadly is more often!!

sibble · 19/04/2007 20:37

Have you tried a swiss ball for exercise. I bought one in the Jan sales and love it. Takes my mind off the old wine of an evening watch TV while exercising although DH has been known to shout psychotically at the sight of me bobbing about out the corner of his eye while he's trying to watch tv too. Also hours of fun for a bored 2 year old .
Am off to prepare the fruit overload for breakfast having just finished my 2 lemons in hot water.

Cappuccino · 19/04/2007 20:40

okay am proud of first day's membership

had apple, raisins, watercress, a huuuuuge plateful of roast veg with mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, courgette and red onion, and my strawberry and apple juice and an orange

have even spent 3/4 of an hour today making a parmigiana (aubergine and passata and cheese doo da) to freeze for lunches

however cannot polish halo quite yet as pilates class cancelled so decided to not go swimming instead but to, er, stay in and have a beer

ah well

FrannyandZooey · 19/04/2007 20:46

sauerkraut say more re bike

cappy what is program? is it the stop-start one?

wtf is a humzinger?

have eaten usual embarasment of fruits but am especially pleased with myself for going to gym TWICE

(a pedant would point out that the first time was to take the kids swimming but hey-I did swim....)

am most suprised at how keen people are to park near the entrance and also to take the lift up to the gym.

not worked up courage to use power plate yet. the helpful diagrams suggest that you cannot avoid making an ar$e of yourself and they have placed it quite high up, and very centrally

OTOH was cheered by many lardy types at gym, this is good, that it is not filled with 16 yo blonde and tanned beanpoles who should be out shagging anyway.

Fillyjonk · 19/04/2007 20:53

it is very important that you turn down that whale music franny, as it makes me murderous.

sarz · 19/04/2007 21:04

Filly, have you ever seen the older south parks with mr Hanky in? Well that is what a humzinger looks like!! Its basically mushed up fruit into a poo looking shape and then into a shiny wrapper so that children think its a sweet!! genius! (well i thought genius, but maybe i should re-check lableing!!) LOL out the lardy lumps at your gym! I am always the only person in my gym, until resently they employed the sexy new instructer who obviously has nothing better to do than make me sweat!!!

Avi if you don't mind a suggestion (in a kind of personal trainer type way to one of my most senior and experienced 10 / 10 ers)

I think you should be trying to eat more veg

I should make clear that I am one of the lardy sorts at my gym. It is just nice to have company. And we non-16 yos are nice and chatty with each other, god its actually nice to go there, knowing there will be some people there who don't make me feel inadequate.

I may even take a class.

ok food wise what have I had? porridge with ex-frozen berries and rice milk (an NOT counting rice milk ffs) , (lots of) salad and egg for lunch, avocado and salad and courgette and mushrooms and parlsey (LOTS of parsley, a good portion) for supper. And fruit, oh I dunno, lots of strawberries, 7 clementines, 6 bananas, 2 apples and an ugli fruit.

I think the secret to my sucess is the ability to eat like a pig, really.

Fillyjonk · 19/04/2007 21:29

avatrix, i have a good video, the new york city ballet workout 2.

I am NOT one for the exercise videos but there are no overtanned, overenthusiastic bubbly sorts, and the music is nice classical stuff.

I am not sure entirely where it is but..you know...

FrannyandZooey · 19/04/2007 21:37

blib.....blib

some people liked it

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 19/04/2007 21:38

You really pack away those bananas, eh, Filly? I am sure pigs don't eat rice milk...

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 19/04/2007 21:39

pigs do pretty much eat anything, IIRC

which is only fair really
