For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information \link{http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Policyandguidance/Healthandsocialcaretopics/FiveADay/FiveADaygeneralinformation/DH_4001494 \here} (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

Oh, Franny is always nagging me about my pugnacity on threads, the old fishwife

Just ignore her, I do

FrannyandZooey · 19/04/2007 07:55

"if you've been keeping your quills clean" Her quills are filthy

Aviatrix, oh dear I probably was being serious. No, I do wonder how many newbies think that Greeny and I are sworn enemies.

HC I don't like Holland and Barrett. It has a sort of puritanical 80s feel and G Mc Keith's twisty face is always leering out at you.

OP posts:
Greensleeves · 19/04/2007 08:55

faded bobbly brown linen slacks

candy striped socks

smokey pink-ish vest top with tiny sequins all over (and a small, elderly curry-stain)

halter-neck chocolate baby-doll thing with big turquoise roses on

black cardigan with bits of cobweb and other garden-related paraphernalia accessories

big jade and malachite fertility symbol thing on black cord

necklace of little jade stars

umpteen tiny bead bracelets

malachite chunky earrings

a SCOWL, and it's YOUR FAULT

Greensleeves · 19/04/2007 08:55

so yes, would have been the short answer

Greensleeves · 19/04/2007 08:56

And yourself??

Still going for "flamingo chic"?

morningpaper · 19/04/2007 09:02

Right, day did not start so well as I started eating a Nestle Egg earlier on, even though I'd put the Easter Treats box on top of a cupboard that requires a ladder to retrieve them. Nestle chocolate, it is SO disgusting, I felt very sordid indeed.

But then a decent bowl of muesli with banana and grapes and yoghurt so I have slightly redeemed myself.

For the last two days I have cooked vegetarian chilli and no one (i.e. DH and Mother) noticed that it wasn't made with beef, so that was good.

Have not done any exercise for years and year but will Briskly Walk into work later on which is a 20 minute walk.

Cappuccino · 19/04/2007 09:06

hello here I am can I join?

I am fresh from the weightwatchers website community boards where the epitome of fruity goodness is a smoothie lolly

at present I eat about 2/10 (not including smoothie lollies)

my rookie question is how many sultanas count as a portion? (cos I can only have a blasted tablespoon of the feckers apparently or I will turn into a lardball)

Cappuccino · 19/04/2007 09:07

mp tell me what the hell you put in your chilli

dh has a really clever meat radar which is only usually thrown off the scent by jaffa cakes and beer

morningpaper · 19/04/2007 09:13

Cappucino it is basically lentils!!!! But they are brown which is meat colour ;)

It is Madhur Jaffry's (sp?) Tex Mex Chilli from her World Vegetarian cookbook

I will rummage it out for you

Cappuccino · 19/04/2007 09:24

coo ta mp that would be great

dh used to have a madhur jaffrey book but it was very old and used about 40 ingredients to make raita

sarz · 19/04/2007 10:03

i know the time doesnt matter, the problem is that because i didnt snack or have anything at lunchi missed out on about 3/4 portions! i missed karate yesterday and knees feel ok.off to the gym now so will see how it goes! unfortunatly there is a very sexy gym instructer who always comes to 'help' me by telling me i could go faster/harder etc

suzycreamcheese · 19/04/2007 10:28

today: heaps of strawberries on museli with dates and other virtuous things like seeds

if your quills are clean harpsichord do you want my soup details?

FrannyandZooey · 19/04/2007 10:52

"Still going for "flamingo chic"?"
Hey if it works, don't knock it

My my we are busy. I think HC has brought all her glamorous friends with her

Welcome everyone and yes of course you can join Cappucino. I think 1 tbsp of raisins is about right for a portion, but we have fancy links around somewhere...

MP I think you will have to undertake some sort of purge to rid yourself of the Nestle taint. I suggest you strip naked while we all beat you with twigs

ooh sorry must remember to keep my personal life OFF the thread

Sarz I am sure you had about 10 portions, though. I think you are doing very well indeed.

Suzy I would check her quills. I bet she has a few party rings crammed down there.
