For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information \link{http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Policyandguidance/Healthandsocialcaretopics/FiveADay/FiveADaygeneralinformation/DH_4001494 \here} (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

we will

I have a gap. i have had a gap since ds was born in ooh august 03. I am still alive, though pudgy

harpsichordcarrier · 20/04/2007 20:06

OK I am wearing very pale blue wide leg linen trousers with drawstring top. (bargain of the century btw, bought from peacocks about 4 years ago for £8 and seen me through both pregnancies and post natal flab)
khaki green t shirt (doesn't really match, but white t shirt got chocolate on it)
white birkenstocks (one bar)

NotQuiteCockney · 20/04/2007 20:09

Here is a page that tells you a) how to tell if you have a gap and b) how to fix it. It looks reasonably reputable.

Overrun · 20/04/2007 20:17

Hi AVi, yes we live very near each other,

NCQ - have just done the exercise and I don't have a gap, so thats reassuring.
This is more general now, but I find my weight tends to end up on my ribcage, higher up. Apparently, your rib cage lifts a bit with pregnancy and doesn't entirely move back down (I read this some where), and as I have a barrel ribcage anyway, it is particularly noticable on me.
It gives me a bit of an odd shape, does any one else have this out of interest?

Overrun · 20/04/2007 20:18

Thanks Harpsicord, not sitting there with a cutlass then

Cappuccino · 20/04/2007 20:19

big ribs? oh yes I have big ribs

whether I can blame this on pg I don't know

but I do have a suit that, no matter what my weight has been, no longer accommodates my ribs since dd1

NotQuiteCockney · 20/04/2007 20:20

I think my ribcage is bigger now than it used to be, not sure. My shape has absolutely changed - smaller hips, bigger waist (which is ok, as I used to be 30/45 on the bottom half, which looks like a Robert Crumb cartoon tbh).

I am wearing crappy old M+S jeans, red ribbed cotton tshirt and an American Apparel hoodie. No piratey things at all today.

TooTicky · 20/04/2007 20:26

FMV and NQC, I have no piratey clothing (well, I've got some stripy socks) but I am related to Grania O'Malley

Overrun · 20/04/2007 20:26

I can't remember where I read it about the ribs, but its interseting. While I am in a confessional mood, I shall divulge that this results in me having an odd bra size.
38A, quite hard to find bras in this size, and its all because of my ribcage boo hoo
Amazing the changes that pregnancy brings, I was looking at my c section scar the other day. I just thought to myself, "that scar will be part of me now, until I die".

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 20:28

Blimey I go off for an hour and you all go berserk

what is all this body fascism creeping in here? I have met three 10 / 10ers (it was before we were 10 / 10ers in case anyone is thinking we have a clique) and none of them are size 10s or pencils. They are strong, curvy women with breasts and arses and stuff.

Overrun I have the exact same problem. I have always been a smaller size on the bottom than on the top, but now my ribcage is really out of proportion with the rest of me. It really limits what clothes I can look nice in and isn't affected by weight or exercise

So are we having a meet up then? But we are all about as far away from each other as we could be, how is that going to work?

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 20:29

I do NOT have any pirate clothing

despite popular myths to the contrary

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 20/04/2007 20:29

oooh o/r we can compare gaps! oooh! the excitement!

oh no we'll just meet and I'll be very unwitty, thats my usual strategy.

tick who is this gracia person?

Fillyjonk · 20/04/2007 20:30

OMG are we having a pirate meetup?

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 20:31

NO WE AREN'T

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 20/04/2007 20:32

and i hope you recieved mine, frank

am trying to avoid the pirate thing with my kids

Overrun · 20/04/2007 20:33

Filly, sounds good I know your dd is quite small still, but how old is your ds, mine are 4 and dts are 2.5. I know you have told me, I am guessing he is 3 btw
Franny - it is a bummer isn't it. Do you find that smocks or Empire style type tops look really SHITE, because they just catch you on the rib cage?

TooTicky · 20/04/2007 20:35

Grania O'Malley

Fillyjonk · 20/04/2007 20:35

things just look shite on me cos i don't seem to be a size 10

ribcage thing is spot on, and got worse with each pgncy. i tried on one of my court suits the other day and it was most distressing

o/r i have ds 3.5 and dd 21 months.

i shall nab your email addy tommorrow, tonite i must sleep

x

Overrun · 20/04/2007 20:41

Thanks TooTicky, you learn something new every day.
Night Filly.
I am off to watch NCIS, and possibly have another vodka and tonic. Yep, I have already had one, hence all the graphic details about my physical shortcomings
Don't normally drink spirits but I could get into this

Tatties · 20/04/2007 20:42

Franny next week is a bit short notice isn't it? But I shall email you.
And FMV, we really should too shouldn't we? Well maybe we will at YSP if you can make it.
I do feel rather nervous at the prospect of meet-ups though - what if no-one likes me?

No pirate costumes here I'm afraid, but ds is rather partial to Yoho Ahoy

I think we will need a new thread, this one is going to start crashing on me soon I think..

TooTicky · 20/04/2007 20:43

Who can I meet up with?

Fillyjonk · 20/04/2007 20:45

next week

there is a meet up next week?

i am scared of meet ups too

i had a bad experience with a knitting group...

NotQuiteCockney · 20/04/2007 20:46

Could any lovely holisticy people with style opinions have a quick glance here ? I am really, honestly, I swear, very close to making a decision here, and I promise no playsuits are involved.
