For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information \link{http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Policyandguidance/Healthandsocialcaretopics/FiveADay/FiveADaygeneralinformation/DH_4001494 \here} (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

I must get up to speed, I've only had some orange today. Ds rather likes eating the orange peel - can anyone tell me any advantages or disadvantages of this? And he insisted on telling me it was a lemon

But we have been getting out of breath running round the coffee table. Busy getting ready to go away next week and a few errands to run so will get some 'power' walking done too hopefully

Ooh thanks Franny

I have heard that about Milk Thistle too.

FMV, is the other possibility really Not An Option? I have been battling bizarre nausea for a while too, something to do with periods I think, there was a thread a while back.

Avi we are going to the south coast

TooTicky · 20/04/2007 13:14

Okay, I shall shout: HOMOEOPATHY!!!!!!!!!!!
And stamp my foot.
Because it is fab.
And then I shall mention it no more.
Well, not on this thread, anyway
(Seriously, very very good indeed. Just in the last fortnight, ds2's eczema, gone. It has rescued me from dire asthma and acute toothache that had me pacing and crying. And stopped me smoking. And ds1's eczema when he was a baby - sorted overnight. Really. And yes, there are charlatans out there, but I know of some extremely good and proper ones. Homoeopaths, that is, not charlatans. And two of them are in London. Now I shall say no more unless asked.)

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 13:18

Hello all, am loving the fashion slant to the thread at mo, I have a green skirt with sequins that I am very partial to, despite what anyway else says. I have been known to wear it with a thin sparkly scarf too, just to add to overall glam-hippy-bonkers look.

Won't be on for a few weeks, am going to US for 2 weeks with work. Before anyone gets ideas about how much fun this would be and how exciting. It Is Not. I am going on my own to meet lots of strangers who are into IT. And we will be working stupid hours and I will be tired and sick all time . Hopefully, there will be Good Food to eat with lots of fruit at break times.
When I come back will hopefully be around 11-12 weeks so should take my mind off things until then.
Happy fuiting.

Cappuccino · 20/04/2007 14:34

no Franny no no googling no no no no no

you are dealing with someone here who is being treated for homeopathy by a professional (my second therapist - the first one thought I was so barking she referred me to someone with more experience )

thanks to google, in the past I have had a touch of diabetes, gout, MS, motor neurone disease and breast cancer

stop it now

DrewPeacock · 20/04/2007 14:34

Tatties - dh went to the 'vets' 3 years ago....I have been googling massively and apparently it is not impossible for the tubes to, er reattach themselves Although like a 1 in a million type thing. But can you imagine if it did happen? No-one would believe I had been faithful....I wouldn't believe it of someone else
Suppose I could sell my story for a few bob though

DrewPeacock · 20/04/2007 14:35

Strangetown - dh has to these sort of trips sometimes - he always ends up having a better time than he thought he would . And he's rubbish at shopping, simply rubbish. These trips are wasted on him!

Overrun · 20/04/2007 14:54

Jeez, this thread is so busy, started to play catch up, and then realised that it would take me too long and take me away from time spent eating veggie and fruity goodness.
Still having computer trouble (so bloody annoying, I thought it had been fixed) and tummy problem, which I wont go into any further.
And now I realise that my portions are too low to mention,
and exercise is out of the question,

I so want to join in as well [sad. So, so far today I have had a pear and...........................

thats it

Cappuccino · 20/04/2007 15:05

I'm being treated for health anxiety not homeopathy ffs

am losing my mind

TooTicky · 20/04/2007 17:02

So far, have had apple, orange, pear, mushrooms, shallotts, tomatoes and avocado. Have walked 2 miles but this is a regular thing and does not address my Wobbly Tummy, which needs attention. Can anybody suggest a sensible and not-too-boring exercise?

DrewPeacock · 20/04/2007 17:11

just seen on another thread charleesunnysun sun - our resident perky cheerleader - is having a rather rough time at the moment. Her ds in hospital for a fortnight..

suzycreamcheese · 20/04/2007 17:17

loads of strawberries

aubergine tomato dish w/ parmesean gruyere tonight...

feel for your internet troubles overrun victim of crap broadband provider here ....

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 17:59

Overrun you are an honorary life member and welcome to come and soak up the atmosphere in here any time, even if no morsel of fruit has passed your lips

StrangeTown a green skirt . Hope you have a good trip.

FMF that would be a turn up

TooTicky I think the only thing for wobbly tummies is fat burning activity combined with crunches, which you probably know about already. The current way I do mine is very mildly interesting - lie on back with knees bent and feet flat on floor - do 10 crunches. Raise feet with knees bent and calves parallel to your body - do 10. Finally raise feet with straight legs so legs are at right angle to body - do 10. Repeat. Try not to cry.

Suzy aubergine dish sounds FAB

Cappucino oh dear I am sorry to hear of your troubles with health. I am going to have to google some more though because I do have SOMETHING and not knowing is kind of worse, I think

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 20/04/2007 18:08

oh yes i need to sort Wobbly Tummy also

I have a difficulty in that i know i have a separation of the muscles there and so have been advised not to do any excerises except Special Exercises but I have no idea what those would be

am going to try pilates on, i think, monday

oooh i do love my gym

today have eaten...lots

TooTicky · 20/04/2007 18:09

Thanks Franny, I shall try but I am v. easily distracted. And it's not mentally stimulating, is it?

TooTicky · 20/04/2007 18:10
Cappuccino · 20/04/2007 18:11

so be it Franny but don't come running to me...

so today I have had apple, raisins, smoothie from fresh smoothie place with banana, strawberry, mango (and something else I have forgotten), parmigiana (therefore aubergine and tomatoes), watercress, and tonight we have courgette and salad to have with our halibut and olives

olives don't count do they, from my memory? ah well

will have to have wine with dinner though as recipe demands I open a bottle for sauce
