For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information \link{http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Policyandguidance/Healthandsocialcaretopics/FiveADay/FiveADaygeneralinformation/DH_4001494 \here} (follow the link at the very bottom of the page)

I am sure olives DO count - why wouldn't they?

Frances, you have a thread here .

I am doing 10/10 these days, I think (been running three times this week, eating loads of veg, and enough garlic that ... well ... let's just say, enough garlic ...) but not posting here, not sure why.

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 18:28

Thanks NQC I had missed it

I am sorry you don't feel like posting on here at the moment but I cross over with you enough on zombie and skirt threads that I am not pining for you too much

Please come back whenever you fancy it, though.

You know I may start another thread for the weekend as this one is getting rather long - what do you think? Although IME everyone buggers off at the weekends, leaving me here nursing a plate of salad

I should be involved on here.

I really want to do two other things with food, as well:

  1. no/low sugar.
  1. one new recipe per week.

I have MIL and PIL coming tomorrow and staying a night, so am fretting slightly about that food, anyway. And am starving to death today. (Ate an avocado and a tomato as part of my lunch.)

Fillyjonk · 20/04/2007 18:30

tick, i love you, WHERE IS MY BILL?

NotQuiteCockney · 20/04/2007 18:33

Fillyjonk, you have pregnancy-style separation of abs? Yes, pilates is good, you need to check for gaping and things poking through etc while doing exercises, but basic exercise is sucking stomach in (do pelvic floor at same time, always a good idea), then trying to hold stomach in while lifting head etc.

NotQuiteCockney · 20/04/2007 18:34
Fillyjonk · 20/04/2007 18:35

hmm

the sucking in of the stomach i do pretty much all day nowadays

yes will try pilates. also pos NIA, though it looks desperately floaty and it making me giggle cos its the name of one of ds's best friends.

i used to be a size 10. i want everyone to know that.

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 18:36

I like your other food ideas NQC

I am eating fairly small amounts of sugar only atm, but it suits me better, physically, to eat none. I just do love my sweet things, though

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 18:36

Filly did you sort the bike out with Peachy?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 20/04/2007 18:37

What's NIA?

I think Tae Bo is good for abs work, I'll probably try them again sometime, but I don't think it's good if you have a separation.

(How do you know you have a separation? Do you know it's still there? I'd want to talk to a physio about it and see if anything can be done ...)

NotQuiteCockney · 20/04/2007 18:37

I have had fudge today. I've mostly been sensible lately about sweets but am worn down today. I had two two-year-olds yesterday, and now one of them probably has chicken pox, the other being mine, so that's coming, hurrah.

Cappuccino · 20/04/2007 18:42

oh god I have just watched the children eat their macaroni cheese it was murderous

ate a banana in desperation

did not help much

and no running tonight because the psychotic Other Nurse has really had her evil way with my verruca

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 18:43

Cappucino do you think we should talk to your therapists before you are allowed to post on this thread any longer? I wouldn't want to think we were impeding your progress in any way

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 18:44

(if it helps, I have a scary low fat macaroni cheese recipe?)

Tatties · 20/04/2007 18:45

Franny you're on.

Oooh a 10/10 meet-up, that would be fun

Eeek FMV... Hope things turn out ok for you.

Pilates are good for tummies, like wot NQC said. Mine definitely improved while I was going to classes.

I have most certainly done power walking today, pushing heavy toddler uphill in buggy. Don't know if it counts but I am knackered.

Have eaten some yellow pepper, raw carrot and hummus, will be having asparagus, couscous and salmon for dinner. Need to get more fruit in later.

Fillyjonk · 20/04/2007 18:47

yes, oooh long story, its deffo a separation. had one both times but got worse 2nd time, as it would really i suppose. i was also told that if it hasn't sorted itself out by 9 months post birth thats it, really.

might go and see someone i suppose.

Fillyjonk · 20/04/2007 18:49

no peachy catted me then vanished, i am sure she will return...my o/d has now reached too many figures and i am too grumpy even to knit, i will sit here and grump, i think

nia is a poncey faffy thing that is meant to merge dance and aerobics and self actualisement to a whale song score. oh its faffy. but there aren't many classes on between 5.30-7.30 which is the only time i can go.

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 18:51

God your gym sounds wildly more exciting than mine Filly

although we now have Irish Dancing I haven't been yet but ds is well up for it

Tatties as I think you know we are not actually on the South Coast but my parents live there

or we could easily get to a place on your route to say hello

or if you ever fancy just swinging by then please do it

which reminds me - Filly are you going to HesFes this year?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 18:52

Btw NQC have neither of yours had chicken pox before? I think it is a good age to get it, really
