So. Whole family had norovirus last week - I wasn't sick unlike the others but I was thoroughly ahem emptied.
I swear I saw rice crispies circa 1989 in there 😱
I am now very constipated.
I've been eating fruit and rice cakes and bland stuff but I haven't been for what week now..
Been taking lactose twice a day and took senna last night but still no movement 😞
Ive got some laxido from my mum...should I take it?
I'm so uncomfortable 😞
Help!

Constipation is the worst Flowers

This might seem like a daft question but did you take an anti diorrea tablet when you had the norovirus?

SpookyPotato · 07/04/2017 09:01

I never thought I would be so interested in whether a stranger poos or not! I hope you go soon OP, I went for 5 days without going after my section and when I did finally go, most of my pain which I thought was wound pain disappeared. Constipation is shit! Grin

LorraLorraLlama · 07/04/2017 09:16

If you only took movicol or laxido yesterday it will be tonight probably tomorrow before anything happens.
I take it reguarly because without, once every 12 to 14 days is my norm.

There is picolax (also nit v effective with me - usually require a double dose and even then the result is delayed mire than other people apparently.

If they give you picolax dont leave the house and its probably wise to have someone with you because after so long and the type of evacuation picolax gives you (and considering what youve already taken), fainting on the job isnt that unusual.

Funnyface1 · 07/04/2017 10:23

Have you actually tried the prune juice? It's very powerful stuff and should work.

Badders123 · 07/04/2017 10:26

Just waiting now...
No I never take Imodium...I would prob never pop again if I did!!

I'm overly invested in this thread, laughed at PP saying it's like waiting for the giraffe to give birth Grin

Best of luck OP! I was like this after my c section, such an awful feeling.

The relief you will feel when it all comes out will be amazing!
Weigh yourself before and after, you might lose half a stone Grin

picklemepopcorn · 07/04/2017 10:40

Oh my days! After I had a gynae OP, and after I've taken codeine, it was awful. Better out than in, but very 'intense', shall we say. Not pain, nothing to be afraid of, just very, erm, emptying.
I had to go for a little lie down afterwards...

Bottlesoflove · 07/04/2017 11:15

Lax iDo can take several days to work, it is not a stimulant but works more "gently" by making your poo softer and encouraging water to stay in the bowel so stops you getting impacted with hard dry poo (nice)

Bottlesoflove · 07/04/2017 11:17

In other words lax iDo (movicol) is far kinder. If you take a stimulant like senna with a full impacted bowel it can cause crippling colicky pain as your bowel is pushing against an effective obstruction (I discovered this the hard ward after a c section and lots of opioid painkillers! 😩)

Bottlesoflove · 07/04/2017 11:21

Use this dosing regime, if it's really bad follow the guidance for faecal
Impaction: www.evidence.nhs.uk/formulary/bnf/current/1-gastro-intestinal-system/16-laxatives/164-osmotic-laxatives/macrogols/movicol

Officially to correct faecal impaction you need to keep going with that regim til you are literally passing brown water (lovely) and then go on to maintenance dose (gp trainee here - had some teaching on this the other day)

Movicol and laxido are the same thing btw

Bottlesoflove · 07/04/2017 11:23

Glass of wine and a ciggie always works a treat for me too.

Bottlesoflove · 07/04/2017 11:25

Full English always works for me too - but that may be because I only eat a full English after a night on the sauce! 😉

MackerelOfFact · 07/04/2017 11:32

If I have chia seeds or flax seeds I can barely wait 10 minutes before needing to go. Never fails to clear everything out!

SteppingOnToes · 07/04/2017 11:35

Strong sweet black coffee loosens the bowels

Badders123 · 07/04/2017 11:45

Ok
So double dose of laxido
I shall keep you posted
😀

What you need is a rolley, there is nothing like a hand rolled cigarette to get your bowels moving!

tobee · 07/04/2017 16:23

Come on Badders! Keep checking for updates. ConfusedSmileGrinShock

BusterGonad · 07/04/2017 16:34
