So. Whole family had norovirus last week - I wasn't sick unlike the others but I was thoroughly ahem emptied.
I swear I saw rice crispies circa 1989 in there 😱
I am now very constipated.
I've been eating fruit and rice cakes and bland stuff but I haven't been for what week now..
Been taking lactose twice a day and took senna last night but still no movement 😞
Ive got some laxido from my mum...should I take it?
I'm so uncomfortable 😞
Help!

Honestly? If I knew it would work I'd be off to the pub!

picklemepopcorn · 06/04/2017 21:22

Surely something has to work soon... Mind you, I suppose you aren't actually doing all this as we type... Are you able to walk around? Movement definitely helps, and a warm bath.

BitOutOfPractice · 06/04/2017 21:37

And your position on the loo makes a difference too. You poor thing op. Maybe getting smashed is the answer. I always go after a big night out. And you'll be too drunk to notice the discomfort in the meantime.

LapinR0se · 07/04/2017 07:33

Any, erm, movement?

abbsisspartacus · 07/04/2017 07:39

Check your loo position ? Make sure you put your feet on a stool

Imaginingdragonsagain · 07/04/2017 07:39

Sorry OP constipation is awful. Hope you're feeling better now.

LaContessaDiPlump · 07/04/2017 07:42

I was advised (by MN!!) to insert my thumb into my vagina and press on the blockage that way, in an attempt to break it into manageable chunks. It did work but was nerve-wracking!!

Big sympathy OP Flowers

Badders123 · 07/04/2017 07:42

No 😞
Feel so silly but it's been 10 days now...is this a dr job?
But what could they give me that I haven't already tried??

This is going to be a bit gross OP but have you tried 'digitally manipulating the blockage'?
You may have compacted poop in your rectum that's stopping the rest come out.
Put on a pair of gloves and put your index up and see if you can pull some bits out. You might find the rest follows.
If it's further up, then I'm out of ideas Confused

samatamfabahaba · 07/04/2017 07:52

I've had terrible constipation through my pregnancy, I'm 32 weeks now and managing it much better. If I know I NEED to poo I have a black coffee and some satsumas. McDonalds burger also works like a dream, so much so that I've stopped eating them until they're needed! I feel your pain (literally). When you sit on the loo lean right forward with your elbows on your knees and if you can, raise your feet. I have a box of stuff next to the loo I bring round and put my feet on. Lean forward and DO NOT PUSH but breathe and it should just happen...

thehousewife · 07/04/2017 07:55

After 10 days it's definitely a gp job. They have some strong stuff, I have to empty my bowels for operations that I have, they give me picolax. I actually can't leave the house as I spend the entire day on the loo!!

LaContessaDiPlump · 07/04/2017 07:57

Do you know anyone who's had kids/a tear? Maybe they can hook you up with some lactulose.

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 07/04/2017 08:00

I'm going to watch this thread in a similar anticipatory way that people watched the giraffe birthing cam! .... no suggestions but rooting for you OP!

Badders123 · 07/04/2017 08:03

I've been on lactulose for days
I haven't tried an enema..is that a dr job or can I pick one up from the pharmacy?

blueskyinmarch · 07/04/2017 08:03

Gosh how awful. I will lend you my dog. I find an hour out with her always gets things moving - always when i am at the furthest point from home.

Twiterati · 07/04/2017 08:08

I find taking a swig of Milk of Magnesia before I go to bed at night turns it all to liquid. A cup of strong coffee in the morning and Bobs your uncle.

bookbook · 07/04/2017 08:08

Lactulose doesn't work so well - use movicol . Remember lots of water - at least 1litre, better 2 a day - sip all the time. Dried apricots are good as an extra. Lemon juice in hot water
Have you something to raise your feet while sat on the toilet - needs to be about the same height as a toddler step.

FreshsatsumaforDd · 07/04/2017 08:09

Pear juice is given to patients in some Australian hospitals post operatively. Good luck Badders

Penguin27 · 07/04/2017 08:14

Don't take senna. It has to be absorbed by your body to work, which can make your gut lazy and reliant on it.

Try fybogel, you can pick it up anywhere (Tesco). It's just the of some fruit which gives you a bit of "bulk" to work with! One morning and night, works wonders.

Badders123 · 07/04/2017 08:17

Got a dr appt at 10:30!

Penguin27 · 07/04/2017 08:19

The husk of some fruit, sorry!

picklemepopcorn · 07/04/2017 08:20

Hope the GP sorts you out!

smartiecake · 07/04/2017 08:23

Was just coming on to say it's a doctor appointment if you haven't been after 10 days. Hopefully they will be able to help you
