Wasn't sure what to call this thread , for those of us currently on a weight loss programme of some sort.
At my third weightwatchers weigh in tonight I had lost just one pound but that's fine, considering the amount of Coronation chicken I scoffed at a friend's house yesterday.
Got a bit depressed today when I saw some pictures taken of me about 15 years ago when I was young and about three stones lighter...

Hi Jasper & Rhiannon - keep up the good work. I know just how much of a struggle is all is, but with lots of support here and at home, we can all do it. Have started the week of well. Celebrated the big weight loss with a chinese supper and had a cooked English Breakfast!!! Oh well, I've written them both down and am having fish for tea tonight.

Tinker · 05/09/2002 15:34

Quick tip - order Steak Tartare next time you go out. And watch that weight fall off for the next 3 days!

Alibubbles · 05/09/2002 18:02

Tinker, I adore Steak tartare, why does the weight fall off after eating it? Seriously !!

Tinker · 05/09/2002 19:06

Alibubbles - food poisoning unfortunately! Ah well, you've got to try things haven't you?

leander · 05/09/2002 19:33

Stayed the same again this week, I'm really starting to get fed up now.
I try really hard and do what they say but I'm not losing, somebody help me.

Alibubbles · 05/09/2002 21:01

Tinker, I have not been so (un)lucky!!

Deborahf · 05/09/2002 22:57

Hi Leander - just a thought, but have you written down everything you've eaten or drunk? Drinks can sometimes be forgotten and I also find it so easy to nibble on bits when preparing the children's dinner - a slice of bread & butter But to make me remember - I write it down. And it really does help. The other thing that I've done to help, is to simply walk MUCH more than I used to. I can almost get up the hill now without being completely exhausted

Deborahf · 12/09/2002 13:30

It's gone quiet in here!! Went to WW yesterday and stayed the same Still it's not too surprising considering last week's loss. Still back to the gym

leander · 12/09/2002 21:43

Lost 1lb this week, I'm determined to lose 3 next week to make it a stone.Mind you I'm going out on Sat for an Indian!!!!!
Well it is our wedding anniversary.

Deborahf · 13/09/2002 23:12

Hi Leander - have a nice meal on Saturday. Indian's one of my favourites. Congratulations on the weight loss.

Deborahf · 15/09/2002 10:47

Hi Leander - hope you had a lovely meal last night and that you enjoyed your anniversary. Best wishes Deb x

leander · 15/09/2002 17:55

Hi Deb,
Thanks, I had a lovely meal one of the best Indians I've ever had to be honest.I know I'll pay for it at weigh in on Thursday though. Its not actually my anniversary till tomorrow though so I'll be cooking a meal then so that will be more to worry about ,but its only once a year so what the hell!!
leander xx

Deborahf · 15/09/2002 20:43

Hi Leander - glad you had a nice evening. DH and I went out to lunch today - it was wonderful I started off well with bruschetta & cherry tomatos, pasta with chicken & tomato sauce (some cheese in there too) and finished off with carmal bananas, sweet pancakes & ice-cream. I can feel it landing on my hips as I type But it was wonderful and I'm off to the gym tomorrow for a mega workout

Deborahf · 19/09/2002 22:28

Seems to have gone very quiet in here!!! Anyway, thought I'd post results for this week. Have lost 1½lbs - so feeling really pleased. Hope all is going well for everyone else.

leander · 20/09/2002 20:07

well done Deb I couldn't face it this week too much going on.

mckenzie · 22/09/2002 21:40

Does anyone have any tips to help me stop finishing off all of my sons leftovers? There aren't usually many but I still seem to be picking constantly these days. I know the obvious answer is to bin them straight away but it's not happening in practice.

Also, how do I stop snacking when I'm making his tea at 5pm (I have dinner with my husband later on). I just seemt o be eating ALL of the time just now and it's starting to show. HELP! I seem to have no willpower.

Twink · 22/09/2002 21:56

Been there, got the T-shirt. Firstly, focus on the fact that the food is cold - cold fish fingers really are not something you would choose to eat and you would complain in a restaurant ! Get over the 'what a waste' feeling because that will add to your waist. Solutions that I've heard of are, pour salt over the food as soon as ds has finished, or flour or if you're really desperate, washing-up liquid. If you are really hungry at their teatime make a low-cal sandwich to eat with them so you don't pig out on the left-overs. it's not easy, I know but long term it helps.

Deborahf · 22/09/2002 23:47

Hi Mckenzie - I know exactly what you mean. For me the only solution to not nibbling was to chuck what's left straight in the bin!! And I used to use the salt trick too. I know it feels like such a waste, but it's the only thing that stopped me As for eating with the children or the husband - I do both!! That's not as bad as it sounds. I have a salad - tomato, cucumber, lettuce, beetroot and a little salad dressing with a coffee while the children eat their dinner. It's all free food (Weight Watchers terminology) and doesn't cause problems. I then have my proper dinner when my dh comes in - usually much later.

Jasper · 23/09/2002 19:48

mckenzie welcome to the shrinkers.
I agree finding the motivation is the hardest thing of all.
There is a thread all about this, should be in "last weeks" messages. It was started by Mears (Mears have you miraculously discovered any reserves of willpower yet?)
I am happy to report I weighed in at WW an hour ago( after two weeks sick leave) and have reached my goal.I have been feeling quite down lately and I can't tell you how cheered up I am about his.
It has taken me 4 months to lose 22 pounds and I would like to lose a bit more.
Getting this far has been such a boost.
One thing which really helped me get started was something someone at mumsnet said ( I think it was Rhiannon)along the lines of your weight is one of the very few things in life over which you DO have control.
Good luck and keep posting

Well done Jasper - you must be feeling absolutely delighted and so you should. Congratulations.

Ems · 23/09/2002 21:30

WOW WOW WOW Jasper, many congratulations Jasper on getting to goal, thats a real achievement. Well done!!!!

IDismyname · 23/09/2002 22:00

I'm struggling to hide my complete jealousy!!! Many congrats Jasper. Girl Done Well!

I've 21lbs to lose, and 9 and a half down. Will I make it before Christmas.....

.... so I can put it all on again!!

PS Good comment about the controlling of your size. Will bear that in mind.

Jasper · 23/09/2002 22:26

fms, ems, deborah, thanks.
I celebrated with a pineapple cake ( it might be a Scottish thing)and have honestly felt SO happy all evening.
It is such a funny thing. Obviously I don't need my ww leader to sanction my happiness by pronouncing I have reached some theoretical "goal". I was the same size when I walked in as when I walked out, but my mood could not have been more different. I suppose it is just such a long slog that it gives you quite a boost to reach even an artificially created goal. It is so nice to be "not fat" ( as opposed to thin , which I am not) for the first time in a long time.

OP posts:
Jasper · 23/09/2002 22:28

fms you can definitely lose that amount by Christmas

mears · 24/09/2002 10:32

Well done Jasper - I think your success may motivate me. I must be nearly at the point of trying because I am eating terrible things with a frenzy - such a porrige with double cream for breakfast. It's like storing up before the famine Have gained half a stone! On my return from Florida I will rejoin WW.
