Wasn't sure what to call this thread , for those of us currently on a weight loss programme of some sort.
At my third weightwatchers weigh in tonight I had lost just one pound but that's fine, considering the amount of Coronation chicken I scoffed at a friend's house yesterday.
Got a bit depressed today when I saw some pictures taken of me about 15 years ago when I was young and about three stones lighter...

bluebear, i'm one of the bf WWs and am indeed on 28 points daily and have lost 17 pounds in 12 weeks including some spectacularly enjoyable lapses

Well done Jasper arnt you doing well! I have been a member of WW for 8 wks and have lost 8 1/2 lbs but i seem to have lost my way I just have these terrible cravings for snickers and C+O crisp and any thing thats bad i just dont know what to do!!!!!!!!

jasper · 13/08/2002 00:15

Leander, don't give up. You are going at about the same rate as me. I only really lose just about a pound a week, sometimes stay the same then sometimes for no obvious reson the scales show a big loss.
Cravings...ARGH! I have two approaches and I have not worked out which is best.
Either cut out all of your favourite tempting stuff ( crisps, sweets, wine ) COMPLETELY which works for me for few days at a time , or factor them into your plan but choose carefully. Allow yourself the calories/points for a snicker but slice it thinly and freeze it, that sort of thing.
I have found that sugar free jellies really do help to curb my cravings too.
When the desire hits you just to stuff your face...sorry, I have not worked out the solution to that one!

clucks - any news? I still havent made up my mind whether to lose or try - as a result am stuck in limbo land. Half eating healthily, and sort of trying, much to my dh?s total bemusement and frustration!! Last week we had our wedding anniversairy and blew all my hard work on tequila and chocolate ice cream. I must make up my mind to do something positive soon as the swinging from one side of the argument to the other is driving me crazy.

Copper · 14/08/2002 14:46

Well, after moaning about staying the same and putting on for over a month, I went on holday and blew the diet. Ate lots of fish and chips, mussels and chips, sweets and chips (not really) - and lost 2lbs! Would you believe it. Maybe there should be a 'chips with everything' diet! We didn't do anything madly active, but we were busy all day, and moving. Maybe sitting at a desk all week is the real problem.

tigermoth · 15/08/2002 08:17

copper, that's a nice boost. I definitely find that the more generally active I am, the less I weigh. Don't get stick thin, but my clothes feel looser. And 20 minutes running or an exercise class three times a week makes a difference in a few weeks, without any change to my eating.

bluebear · 15/08/2002 20:42

Sign me up for the 'chips with everything' diet - think I may be able to stick to that one
Am officially too stressed to diet due to the evils of house-moving (or not moving which is more to the point), spotty toddler and too much work, so am taking solace in buttered toast.
Yum.

bluebear · 15/08/2002 20:44

Jasper, just noticed your post 17lbs - WOW! well done!

Jasper · 16/08/2002 00:53

Thanks Bluebear.
I have been invited to a very fancy wedding in January (Cameron House Hotel for your info,Scottish mumsnetters)and I plan to be gorgeous and slim, well, slim at least by then
About another stone to go I think. I believe the last ten pounds are really hard to shift, and if I rely on breastfeeding as contraception ( see other thread) my weight may well go up again

Hi All

Just got back from WW and am delighted to report that I've lost 2½lbs - that's a grand total of 14½lbs. That's despite having a couple of weeks holiday - first in Disneyland, Paris (junk food capital of the world) and the second in Amsterdam (with all those lovely pancakes). I enjoyed both weeks and did eat plenty, but both places also meant that I walked miles Jasper, good luck - it's useful to use special events to aim for - mine a company christmas dinner and I want a new frock

Jasper · 21/08/2002 22:20

DeborahF it is very inspiring to hear of others' success. Well done. One of my biggest fears about going on a diet/ joining WW was that I would follow all the guidelines and it would not work - all that self denial with nothing to show for it, but this has not been the case and everyone elses stories are very motivating.

Tonight's delicious low points dinner - "fry" two onions, two courgettes and 400g chicken (all chopped) in two heaped teaspoons mild curry powder in a little stock. Add a cup more of stock and a handful of raisins and simmer for 20 min, than stir in two heaped tablespoons of yogurt. Makes 4 portions at only 2 and a half points a portion.

JasPAH!! Aren't you the posh one then - I checked out the website for that hotel, looks very swanky. Good to hear you are all doing so well on the weight loss front. Might make it back to fat Club (sorry, no offence meant - and i do need to go!)myself soon. Recipe sounds nice too.

Jasper · 22/08/2002 20:24

salalex you make me laugh with your wasp cry!
Nice to hear from you again.
Yes it's quite a posh do, it's my richest friend who is getting married (I really hope noone I know reads this ). I must check out the website.

How are things at home?

OP posts:
salalex · 22/08/2002 21:18

Not bad thanks for asking. Hoping to have an offer accepted on a nearby property - trying to get vendors not to go to closing! Things a bit up and down but generally OK. Trying to eat healthily but the drinking is undoing my good work!!
Could do with a rich friend myself - for cash only you understand!!

dottee · 22/08/2002 21:39

Hi ladies

Just caught up on this thread and I definately have to join you. I'm heavier now that when I was pregnant. I wouldn't mind - I've been at WW goal twice but triend WW earlier this year and just couldn't get into it. I'm going try when the children get back to school and go swimming 2/3 times a week. I keep trying but can't get inspiration. I'm supposed to be getting married again but won't set a date until I've lost weight - alas that isn't doing much good either. I'll keep reading and see if I can get inspired.

leander · 22/08/2002 21:54

Only lost 1/2lb this week.I'm becoming really disheartened and can't seem to get on track, what can i do??

Deborahf · 22/08/2002 22:13

Hi Leander - 1½lbs is a brilliant weight loss. WW always say that a loss of between ½ - 2lbs a weeks is excellent. I can remember one occasion when I was really disappointed to have only lost ½lb - Margaret (group leader) said well it's a slab of butter gone from your hips. I had to smile and it made me realise that it was going in the right direction. I have to admit, though, I do prefer it to come of in rather larger dollops

leander · 22/08/2002 22:18

Deborahf it was only half a pound but as you say it is a packet of butter, thank you've made me feel a bit better now.

Deborahf · 22/08/2002 22:26

Sorry Leander - misread the message - it's late, my eyes are getting the better of me. So I'll say goodnight now. Good luck and keep going. Provided all goes to plan (ie about 2lbs a week) I'll get to target sometime in June next year

Jasper · 22/08/2002 22:50

leander, don't be sad.
Sorry to keep harping on like a WW leader, but it really does all add up.
On three occasions I have lost nothing at all and on two have GAINED half a pound. Those were on weeks when I was starting to fall off the wagon...but the general trend is downward.

I look on it this way...it might take me six or eight months ( or even more) to lose my weight ( about 2 1/2 stone) but those six or eight months are going to pass anyway, whether I do something about my weight during them or not.
In eight months I would rather be slim than fat, so I will keep going.
My total loss is now 19 pounds in 13 weeks.(sorry if I am repeating myself)
Slow and steady wins the race

Has anyone tried the new weight loss programme called Slimming Solutions? A new class has openned in my village and I was wondering whether it was worth trying.

Deborahf · 28/08/2002 15:21

Hi all - feeling really pleased. Lost another 2lbs this week. Hope everyone else is getting on well.

Deborahf · 04/09/2002 20:27

Hi - where is everyone? Hope all is going well with you all. I'm pleased to report a weight loss of 5lbs this week. I was absolutely amazed when Kim told me - I knew it would be good, but I was only hoping for about 3lbs. So I've lost a total of 21½lbs so far. I'm only 5lbs more than I was when dd was born last year!!! However, that doesn't mean I've reached target. I've got about another 5 stone to go

Rhiannon · 04/09/2002 21:22

I'm still here. Re-joined WW today as I hadn't been all summer and didn't want to pay £40 in back payments. I have put on 2lbs since I last went so nothing terrible. I now weigh 12 stone 10lbs and have kept off a stone for the last couple of months but feel myself slipping. Will work hard this week. R

Jasper · 04/09/2002 23:38

I'm still here too, making slow progress but it's in the right direction.
I have lost a total of 21 pounds and am lighter than I have been since I got pregnant with #1 who is now three.
