Wasn't sure what to call this thread , for those of us currently on a weight loss programme of some sort.
At my third weightwatchers weigh in tonight I had lost just one pound but that's fine, considering the amount of Coronation chicken I scoffed at a friend's house yesterday.
Got a bit depressed today when I saw some pictures taken of me about 15 years ago when I was young and about three stones lighter...

IDismyname · 24/09/2002 11:33

Thanks for your support Jasper! Trouble is, when I lose a big chunk like I did last week (3lbs), I spend the whole time thinking that I'm invincible, and I almost never lose the following week because I'm thinking "Oh, well this little (for that read BIG!) biscuit won't hurt!

mckenzie · 24/09/2002 19:52

I'm failing at the first hurdle, and the second and the third. I'm sitting here typing this with a tub of Taramasalata in front of me. DH is away so I've eaten my dinner early but I'm picking like mad. I should go and do the ironing as I wouldn't be able to eat at the same time would I?
I cried when I got undressed in front of the mirror on friday night and vowed to do something about this 'picking' lark and eating with my ds, my dh and by myself but I just haven't kept to any of my resolutions (apart from exercising more). The scary thing is, I just dont know how to stop and I'm starting to get scared that it's getting out of control.
BTW, I opened this tub of taramasalta at lunchtime, it's a 170 gm tub and there's about a quarter left! HELP.

mckenzie · 24/09/2002 20:18

ok, there's now just a scrap left and I still haven't started the ironing!

leander · 25/09/2002 12:22

Jasper well done, that is great news you must be made up.

Deborahf · 25/09/2002 17:00

Hi FMS - you can certainly do it before Christmas.

McKenzie - I really do know how you feel. I was doing just the same earlier this year, expect that my food of choice was chocolate!!! I don't know what to suggest except try Weight Watchers.

I started going in January and for a variety of reasons just wasn't into getting the weight off. I kept saying "I'll start on Monday", only Monday never came. Something clicked in July and I went back - and it's coming off now. You could always start counted cross stitch - believe me it's impossible to eat when you're doing that Good luck.

I'm pleased to report a loss of 3lbs - a total of 26lbs so far - only 5½ stone to go

jasper · 25/09/2002 23:45

Just to inspire you DeborahF, there are two women at my ww class who have lost 67 and 72 pounds respectively and each still have about 20 pounds to go.
You are doing really well.Keep it up.

leander · 26/09/2002 20:11

Its me again, just got back from weigh after missing a week and I've lost 3 1/2lbs which takes me over the stone I'm made up with myself(does that sound smug?)

jasper · 26/09/2002 20:24

leander you have every right to feel a little smug . Keep it up.
Having hit the psychological barrier of my WW goal I am finding it hard to stay on track. Others' successes are very inspiring.

OP posts:
mckenzie · 26/09/2002 21:11

well done leander, you have every reason to feel smug. I'd had a good couple of days and then my ds took over an hour and half to go to bed tonight (never ever happened before, always been really good going to his cot while awake and getting himself off to sleep, have no idea what was going on tonight. Could he be missing his daddy, away on business for the week, more than I realised as dad normally does bath and bedtime?)
Anyway, it was 8.45pm by then and I was ravenous so grabbed some cold mackeral (not too bad) and toasted a bagel which i then smothered in butter and cream cheese! I'm doomed. And I wont have time for any exercise tomorrow to burn it off. Bums! but I have discovered that if I get peckish during the day, a chewing gum seems to stave off any attempt to grab at something calorific.
** (these are because I dont know how to do smiley faces etc!)

WideWebWitch · 26/09/2002 21:21

Mckenzie to do a smiley type a colon like this : and then an open right hand bracket like this ) Don't leave any spaces and you get this For a grin use an O instead of a right bracket like this : O (with no spaces) gets this

I have discovered that I'm losing weight as a result of being busy at work and home and just not having time to eat much (or drink much booze). Still too fat though...

mckenzie · 26/09/2002 21:38

thanks wickedwaterwitch
A quick practice....

AliH · 26/09/2002 22:19

Jasper, I have just read your postings (after posting another conversation elsewhere for Sorefeet! Sorry)

WELL DONE, I bet you feel fab, and so you should. I like the sound of your chicken curry, I'll try that one. Since working I have stopped cooking WW recipes, and am finding it hard to find interesting easy low fat meals to cook.

I have discovered the WW sweets, I think they are called fruities or something like that. I'm not a sweet eater really, but the licquorice (spelling?) ones are great. They really take the edge off.

My loss has tailed off - probably due to sitting on my behind for 8 hrs a day at work, and eating sandwiches for lunch. I'm looking forward to getting out on my bike now I've cut my hours back.

Still, the weight isn't going up, so that's the main thing.

Keep posting, I need the inspiration

Pjay · 02/10/2002 09:18

HELP!! I am currently in weight limbo. My son is now 18 weeks old and i still can't fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes and am quite depressed about it (except when i feel good that the size 16 still goes on, and then sadly remember it has an elastic waist ) I flatly refuse to buy new clothes if at all possible because i really don't want to be a size 20 girl. So currently my pregnancy clothes are too big but most other things too small. (God only knows what my friends and family think when they see me in the same outfits all the time!)
I have been doing aerobics once a week and have just started an aquaaerobics class twicw a week, but i just can't seem to cut down those calories.
I have never really been great in the kitchen so I end up eating a lot of easy to make food, which i know can be quite high in calories and fat. A true chocoholic anything sweet doesn't last 5 mins and when i'm absolutely exhausted after a full day with baby that chinese really does seem a good idea.
Will the exercise do the trick or do i really have to calorie control to get anywhere?

leander · 02/10/2002 09:26

Hi PJ, Welcome to this thread.I was just like you and kept using the excuse that i had just had a baby,If I hadn't joined WW I would probably still be using that when my DS is 10.
Excercise is great but you really do need to watch what you eat,WW has some great recipes that take no time at all to make,If you don't want to join a club then you can just try to watch what you eat and cut out as much fat as you can from your diet.HTH.

leander · 02/10/2002 09:29

Sorry that should be pjay

Bozza · 02/10/2002 17:09

PJay unfortunately 18 weeks is not that long after your baby. It took me more like 18 months to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (but bearing in mind that was lower than my normal weight). Are you breatfeeding because if so calorie control is not really possible. If not (which I'm guessing is the case) then you can start calorie control to an extent.

I am very pleased with the weight I have now got off and also my general fitness level. My top tips are to go out walking with your baby as much as possible. Really make yourself walk to places. And also try to ensure that you drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day. I think this really has helped make me feel better overall. Also avoid having sweet/junk food in the house and when you get to weaning try and feed the baby the same food as yourself. I find that I am far more conscientious about preparing a nutritious meal for DS than for myself. I know this is awkward because the baby wants high fat and you want low fat but alter the proportions. Give baby extra cheese, give yourself extra veg. I like snacking on raw pod peas which are quite sweet.

Pjay · 03/10/2002 10:44

well thanks for the tips, I am going to really try to make an effort with my eating habits, I already make the effort with exercise, but i think that the rubbish i eat is cancelling the benefits out. Starting from today i am going to look for the healthier options, i also find that i am more conscientious over preparing the baby's food than my own. I don't feel so bad that it takes some people over 12 months to get the weight off. I guess 4 1/2 months is expecting a lot really.

Deborahf · 03/10/2002 19:56

Hi Pjay - welcome to the club. Nice to hear from you too Leander - hope all is going well.

I'm pleased to report another loss of 3lbs!! That's a total of 29lbs in 12 weeks - only 5½ stone to go!!! Seriously, I'm delighted with how well it's going and I'm hoping to get another 1½ stone off before Christmas - then I'll be pre-baby weight.

Good luck everyone.

Deborahf · 09/10/2002 22:20

It's gone very quiet in here!! Just a quick note to say went to WW at lunchtime. Not so good this week - put on 1lb. But overall still going well.

IDismyname · 09/10/2002 23:02

I've been very quiet because I've lost "diddly squat" for the last 2 weeks.

However, I have some good news today...

I have lost (drum roll, please)....

A WHOLE HALF POUND!!!

I can hear the applause from here (not).

Am so fed up that I've only eaten 12 points today... trying to shock the system into shedding a bit more weight.

On the bright side, I've lost 10lbs with 11 to go, so perhaps I can say I'm half way next week??!!

Pjay · 10/10/2002 08:50

Well I have been trying to cut down, but went out for a meal with friends last week, and although the meal I chose was quite healthy, the drink I put away was definately not.
Still doing the exercise though and feeling like I have more energy, which I find makes me get up and do more in the day rather than sitting in front of the T.V shoving whatever I can find in my mouth while the baby is asleep
I did have a personal achievement last week when I managed to get my pre-pregnancy trousers on and done up, the next milestone is having them loose enough to walk in without looking like a penguin
Keep it up everyone though, you are my inspiration that it can be done (eventually)

Willow2 · 10/10/2002 16:32

Done it! Signed up for WW yesterday. Made vegetable soup today. Added loads of veg, herbs, turmeric, cumin etc and it was scrummy and very filling. Will keep you posted.

CP · 10/10/2002 19:32

Isn't ww fab? I joined when my daughter was about 7 months and have already reached my goal weight. Unfortunately we now have a load of first birthdays so I am struggling to resist all the yummy little cakes and things. Must take a very quick walk around the block or something I guess... Good luck to you all by the way. Oh, fms - try to eat your full points allocation every day otherwise your body is just going to hang onto the food you give it and this will prevent you from losing any more weight.

IDismyname · 10/10/2002 22:16

CP
Well I've eaten full allocation of points today! Can never keep starvation rations for long, you know....
Have to admit, I ate really well yesterday. Loads of fruit and veg.Found a good recipe for mushroom curry (nil points) and scoffed the lot with a few spoons of cous cous!

leander · 10/10/2002 22:36

I'm back but I'm hanging my head in shame,I put on 1 1/2 this week.I was so glad a fortnight ago when I got past the 1 stone mark but now i've gone back under it.I've just started a new job working 5pm -10pm,so I've been having my tea really early and them I'm starving when I get home from work so have something then, so this is why I think I've put weight on.Well It's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
