Wasn't sure what to call this thread , for those of us currently on a weight loss programme of some sort.
At my third weightwatchers weigh in tonight I had lost just one pound but that's fine, considering the amount of Coronation chicken I scoffed at a friend's house yesterday.
Got a bit depressed today when I saw some pictures taken of me about 15 years ago when I was young and about three stones lighter...

Oh thanks for the compliments!!! Thank you, thank you! D'you know what, I'd just had a car crash with the woman who asked me if I was pregnant (small bumps on both cars, nobody hurt) and I was far more upset about the comment than I was about my car! Have done 2 days with no wine so far, will let you know how I go. Also must cut down on olive oil. Aloha, lol at the pig in a dress comment, what an image Willow2, I didn't think you looked remotely fat on Saturday either (and I'm Not just saying that, genuinely didn't expect to see you posting here!)

Lost 1 1/2 this week making a total of 8 1/2 very pleased as i've been eating like a pig all week.

bluebear · 01/08/2002 20:33

Copper - You have lost over half a stone! That is not to be sniffed at!
What sort of diet are you on? Have you tried measuring yourself and comparing results, with an hour of cycling each day you must be putting on muscle (which is heavier than fat).
Also, the slower you lose the weight the more likely it is to stay off!
Good luck
BB

Bozza, this is very kind but I've just seen some full-length photos and I look huge. I tried to convince myself that I needed a size 18 top because my boobs are big- who was I kidding? Even worse, they were taken at a park miles from where I grew up and I bumped into an old school friend... isn't that typical?

I have got the new "Slimming World" magazine. Are they any good? Dh has promised me a big spend from Boden if I get down to a size 12/14 (my ideal weight).

IDismyname · 01/08/2002 22:28

Try going to the WW website -sorry not up to links, but its www.weightwatchers.co.uk. I think they might have some sort of system you can sign up to over the net.
What I can't stand with WW is all the counting up of points every time something passes my lips. I am seriously becoming obsessed with food, which I am not normally.
Still, can't knock WW.... I AM losing weight!

ionesmum · 02/08/2002 13:33

thanks, I will check it out!

Copper · 02/08/2002 14:00

Bluebear
thanks for the encouragement, much appreciated. I have decided to treat it as if I was just starting again and go back to 18 points for a week (I'm supposed to be on 22, and nothing is shifting). Also starting new (2nd) journal and am writing things down before I eat, not after - gives me a chance to stop before it's too late! I don't think I've put on 2.5 punds of muscle, unfortunately - I think the bag of Thornton's toffee had something to do with it!

Deborahf · 03/08/2002 21:36

Hi Carogee

I find the "points" system the easiest healthy eating plan that I've ever followed. I originally lost over 6 stone (then got contented and resumed old eating patterns - takeaways, chocolate, etc) and put a little back on. Then I got pregnant - bingo an excuse to eat!! However, since having dd I've put on 2 stone - so really had to go back to WW. I'm not too keen on the "we're all united front", but then that's what this thread is all about - supporting each other to achieve our goals. I don't often stay for the WW "talk" as that can be a bit cheesy, however, occasionally when I've had a bad week then it really helps. And one of the best things about the WW "diet" is that you don't have to give up anything. Which is fortunate, as I'd be a complete headcase if I had to completely give up chocolate

Bozza · 07/08/2002 12:53

Well I didn't think I really belonged on this thread (although certainly not on the thinnies one either) but I've had to reconsider... An acquaintance of MIL got me mixed up with my SIL and so thought she was the one with the child. When her mistake was explained she replied "I was going to say, I'd thought you'd got your figure back" or something on those lines. Thus implying that I haven't, that I'm fat and matronly. Or am I being over-sensitive?

aloha · 07/08/2002 13:47

Well, I went to my first ww meeting last thurs and definitely am fat - 12 stone & 4lbs - nearly two stone over my pre-ds weight. Yikes. I have given my goal as 11stone 4lbs as can't imagine losing two stone but can cope with idea of one. Haven't followed menus (my shopping isn't that organised) but have counted points and written down all my food. However have cheated on wine a couple of nights... oops. I have no idea if I've lost anything - I'll find out tomorrow night! wish me luck. My wardrobe is bursting with things I can't wear anymore and so I wear the same 3-4 things day in and day out.

Bozza · 07/08/2002 14:46

My problem is that (with a lot of effort) I am at pre-DS (in fact pre-DS and dieted) weight and I still got the comment.

aloha · 07/08/2002 14:53

Oh, I wasn't replying to you Bozza - so please don't think I was commenting on your comment, if you see what I mean. I'm sure you are a vision and your MIL's friend was just all flustered and said the first - stupid - thing that came into her head. Maybe she meant to say, 'Oh, but you've got your figure back so well, I couldn't tell you've ever had a child' or something. I've said hideously tactless things when flustered that I didn't mean at all. I wish I was at pre ds weight, so lucky you Bozza.

Bozza · 07/08/2002 15:05

Don't worry Aloha - I wasn't taking offence at your comments. Just feeling sorry for myself I suppose and indulging in a bit of a whinge. Anyway good luck for tomorrow night's meeting - lets hope you have a pleasant surprise.

Oh and I think you're all very brave to go to these meetings. I wouldn't even weigh myself while locked in my own bathroom for at least a month after the birth of DS.

WideWebWitch · 08/08/2002 23:48

So far I've done 10 days with no alcohol, no problem at all. Haven't weighed myself as I don't have scales but I've also been eating healthily and cutting down on the olive oil, so I'll see how my clothes fit in a month...hope all you ww attendees are sticking with it too. Am hoping that I won't look pregnant for much longer.

allatsea · 09/08/2002 10:23

manna, if you're not eating carbs, what do you eat to fill you up? I tend to live on bread and pasta given the chance. I've got a stone to lose. Has anyone else come across the Susan Powter book 'stop the insanity'? I had it years ago. She lost a huge amount of weight through eating foods which were less than 30%fat - her theory being if you eat fat, you get fat. The book is also quite a heartwarming autobiography.

Willow2 · 09/08/2002 10:51

www - you don't look pregnant. Bootilicious or however you spell it, maybe, but not pregnant.

aloha · 09/08/2002 11:01

I lost 31/2lbs last week, to my amazement. But then celebrated with three glasses of wine - whoops! Back on straight and narrow today in attempt to become more narrow. 4points had so far...

bluebear · 09/08/2002 11:35

Well done Aloha!
I haven't lost any more weight (as usual), and am resigned to the fact that the most I can expect is 2lbs a month, but suddenly my old trousers are fitting again.. Hurrah.
I'm guessing that my nightly sit-ups and exercise are having a greater effect on my dimensions than my diet. My thighs are thinner and my kangeroo pouch has lost at least one baby kangeroo.
Anyone know any way of exercising away enormous horrible post-breastfeeding boobs?? My guess is that as they are made of fat I'll just have to persevere with the diet, I'm a bit Dolly Partonesque at the moment!

chanelno5 · 09/08/2002 17:28

Have been (supposedly) doing Dr Atkins again, though my version includes booze so is rather more fun than his. Still, my Pavarotti-style tum shows that perhaps my version is not quite as sucessful as his!!

JayTree · 09/08/2002 21:34

I did the Atkins diet pre-pregnancy and lost 2 stone in about 5 months really easily - however, 2 years later, I have put it all back on again thanks to pregnancy over indulgence and lousy will power (jaffa cakes is my particular weakness..) I am now keen to lose it all again but will NOT go back on the Atkins again for any money and would urge caution to anyone out there thinking about it. I know it works really well but the lack of fibre in the diet can have really dangerous side effects - believe me! If you can cope with inevitable constipation then fair enough, but make sure you take vitamin supplements on a no/low carb diet as the lack of fresh fruit and veg. is also really hard. (I found this diet much easier in the winter - steaks with pepper sauce etc. as I missed summer salads and fresh fruit.)

My dilemma is fairly simple - do I go ahead and have no. 2 child now whilst being 2 stone heavier than I would like or wait and make the effort to lose it first when I know that I am likely to put it all back on anyway???

Any advice please ??- my head tells me one thing and my heart the other..it is on my mind a lot and I need to make a final decision as I am dieting one day and giving in the next - getting nowhere and am fed up with it.

clucks · 11/08/2002 16:50

Jaytree
my dilemma exactly, am not losing much weight as have plateaud. I have joined a gym so look better (after only 4 classes, honest!) Someone here advised me to lose the weight first before planning 2nd pregnancy, but am still fat and period is late, so should I cancel the gym membership andspend the money on extra food instead?

Ludo · 12/08/2002 12:07

Can any of you tell me how many extra WeightWatchers points I can have for breastfeeding my 8 month old?? It's bad enough havign to diet - I'd at least like a few extra points. Dr Atkins really worked for me, but not sure it's 'healthy' enough when you're feeding ANOther too.

bluebear · 12/08/2002 12:53

Ludo - just found this info on another weight loss thread. 'WW literature says a breastfeeding mum weighing between 11 and 12 stone needs 28 points a day to lose weight. '

I'm sure there are some breastfeeding weightwatching mums posting on this thread who can correct me if I'm wrong.
