For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and more detailed information here

Yay for carrots

think I will have one too

we soooooo know how to enjoy ourselves

Nockney · 28/02/2007 20:26

What on earth is it with the whole Gazza/Mozza/whateverzza thing? Where is that from? God English people are weird.

I don't know what's up with the shortened names thing, either, but I've done it too. So you're not the only sheep in here, apparently.

Fooey · 28/02/2007 20:27

Oh good for you Ovun, never be ashamed to do something you don't really understand and possibly don't agree with, just because of peer pressure, that's what I say

Nockney · 28/02/2007 20:29

And if you're told, by a man in a white coat, to administer punitive electrical shocks to people who get questions wrong, you should to that too. I know I would.

Fooey · 28/02/2007 20:30

Ok, NQC, next time we change names we will have a "Za" day

I can be "Frazza" and you can be "Nozza"

ooh marvellous we should do it very soon I think

Fooey · 28/02/2007 20:31

Yes I never quite got that electric shocks thing. I mean I am really pretty sure I wouldn't have done that. Would I?

Nockney · 28/02/2007 20:32

I don't know. I think I wouldn't. But it's hard to know.

The one that really scares me is the prison one, that they had to stop midway through - do you know that one?

Fooey · 28/02/2007 20:34

Yup, I do. This subject is too scary for this fluffy thread so I am rampantly changing the subject.

Dp is laughing at me because when he asked "Why are you skipping into the kitchen?" I answered "Because I am in a hurry to get my carrot."

Nockney · 28/02/2007 20:34

I am pretty sure the electric shocks one was a bit 'art' and a bit 'science', iyswim. Didn't the same bloke did the six-degrees experiment that didn't prove the six-degrees thing at all?

While the Stanford Prison Experiment (how is that not a band name?) was a lot more scientific, even if they did cancel it after only six days. (Official site )

Fooey · 28/02/2007 20:35

(however skirting around the subject a little bit do you know about what A. Parker did to the actors in the film Rumblefish? same kind of thing)

Tatties · 28/02/2007 20:36

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!

What are you trying to do to me?

Tatties doesn't shorten well does it? Neither does my real name...

Fooey · 28/02/2007 20:39

Ok am talking shite, Coppola directed Rumblefish and I can't find anything to back me up so may be making the whole thing up

Tatties your name does however lengthen beautifully

Tatties · 28/02/2007 21:01

Does it?

Ok now add raw carrot and dried apricots to my list

Nockney · 28/02/2007 21:30

You can just claim your name is already shortened, from Potatoes?

Ok, have had citrus binge (grapefruit, normal orange, tiny orange, then was really full! Must still be full from big tea. - 3? For a total of 10.).

Tomorrow I will probably go running, and then either walk or bike to central London. To pick up DS1 who will be in pyjamas. Oh. That will be fun. Because DS1 is such an unobtrusive child who never draws attention when we are out in public ...

Ovun · 01/03/2007 09:05

Um, the thread drifted into unchartered territories again. pmsl at Fooey skipping to the kitchen for a carrot. Such joie de vie!
I sliced a banana on my weetabix, the dcs were horrified
Next and apple and some more blueberry juice.
I'm taking my Nana to a hospital appt today, which will involve pushing her in the a wheelchair for quite a long distance, so I might count that as my exercise today

CheesyFeet · 01/03/2007 09:54

I haven't been about for a couple of days and Strange Things have occurred in the meantime... what's with

CheesyFeet · 01/03/2007 09:56

Whoops

I haven't been about for a couple of days and Strange Things have occurred in the meantime... what's with the names???

Very little f&v yesterday but managed a hyooge melon salad yesterday on my colleague's company credit card whilst out and about with work. Service station prices

Fooey · 01/03/2007 10:28

Cheesy you could be Cheeseet? Or Chet, quite cool.

Hope your pyjama bike ride went well NQC.

We just ate the plantain! It was very nice. We waited for it to go yellowy black and baked it with butter and sugar and cinnamon. Fab.

Ovun I hope your Nana is ok. Is she a large lady? You can have extra points if so

Nockney · 01/03/2007 10:49

Pyjama bike ride would be this afternoon, but DS2 wants to walk to see the marbles again, so that's the plan.

I had an ok run this morning. Maybe 30 minutes. Very windy, I didn't have a lot of energy, and my ipod ran out of juice, so not my most energetic ride ever.

I think we will be going to see those marbles a lot of times.

Nockney · 01/03/2007 10:49

(Oh, which means I will get to go on the tube with a pyjama'ed DS1. We'll make some friends, I think.)

FrannyandZooey · 01/03/2007 18:27

So, NQC, what character was DS1? I am guessing Charlie Bucket in the Great Glass Elevator, but am probably wrong...

I am in theory definitely up for the marbles in the holidays, maybe the Tuesday? Will have to consult dp about travel budget though.

We have been at a party and ds had his first party ring. An historic moment

Oh, this morning I forgot to add the raisins and seeds to my regular breakfast and spent the rest of the morning feeling absolutely ravenous. I was really surprised it could make such a difference.

Nockney · 01/03/2007 18:33

He was a nursery rhyme character - the old man who bumped his head and couldn't get up in the morning.

Tuesday of the first week of Easter sounds fine.

Greeves · 01/03/2007 18:39

PMSL about the party ring! Are we all to wear black (lentil-encrusted) armbands in honour of the demise of his innocent palate?

I have been eating like a HORSE today. Literally - bran, oats, carrots, apples....

FrannyandZooey · 01/03/2007 18:42

Greeves, he sat and ate his way through sandwich after sandwich, pizza, grapes, etc etc. Had one bite of a sparkly cake, and a pink party ring, and my friend stood next to me sucking her teeth and going "Ooooh, times have changed. Oooooh, they certainly have."
