If he's not heavy bleeding, unconscious, signs of a stroke then it's not A&E as a first call

Um - broken limb, burst appendix, poisoning, acute allergic reaction, child swallowing something? I think these all class as A&E cases

RB68 · 31/12/2016 08:54

For me I would a) stop the paracetamol and b) get to A&E if the wee is dark or reddish its potentially a liver/kidney issue and possibly related to paracetamol use (it is far too easy to overdose or take an amount that causes damage to organs). Our out of hrs is good as is our GP generally although not easy to get an appt but I wouldn't hang about with wee that colour

MozzchopsThirty · 31/12/2016 08:54

Once again I though listing every emergency medical problem known to man might be tiresome

But I can see now we'll have a list of things you can go with!
Maybe we could all add one each?

This is for a professional to make a decision not a bunch of mumsnetters who would go for a cough that's been longer than 2 weeks

frumpet · 31/12/2016 08:55

I think where you go depends on where your OOH's is located , ours is in the hospital so would sometimes mean quicker admission , rather than sitting in A&E for hours .
Hope you get seen quickly OP Flowers

if he's not heavy bleeding, unconscious, signs of a stroke then it's not A&E as a first call

What a stupid and dangerous thing to say.

Duckyneedsaclean · 31/12/2016 08:57

MozzchopsThirty, the point you seem to be missing is that this may well be heavy bleeding, or serious liver problems - neither of these can be treated by a gp.

MountainPeaks · 31/12/2016 08:58

OP Glad to see you are on the way. Has he been travelling to a malaria area recently?

This doesn't look like beetroot - it's too dark / red. Could be so many things, some of which are life threatening. As it's been ongoing for over 24 hours A and E is the right place to be.

Miserylovescompany2 · 31/12/2016 08:58

Fizzy urine? Could be very serious. For example kidney damage or disease. A & E with sample in hand.

NormaSmuff · 31/12/2016 08:59

but the GP can assess far better than strangers on mumsnet, the GP can start treatment, can bypass the wait in A & E if that is called for, can refer direct to specialist, it makes sense.

MountainPeaks · 31/12/2016 08:59

if he's not heavy bleeding It is actually a sign of heavy bleeding.

As well as organ failure.

As well as malaria.

LittleCandle · 31/12/2016 09:00

Yes, Mozzchops but you wouldn't go with this when it clearly is much more serious than phoning the ultra-useless 111 or OOH. Or is it that you simply know nothing about what colour your pee should - and shouldn't! - be? I hope you're not around if I ever need medical help and am unable to get help for myself.

OP, I hope your son feels better soon.

QueenMortificado · 31/12/2016 09:00

We don't need to list everything that you would need to go with because most of us are aware of it Mozzy. You said something that wasn't true and trying to back out of it now. Don't try and make out that everyone else is stupid for not understanding your point

pishedoff · 31/12/2016 09:00

Good luck

MountainPeaks · 31/12/2016 09:00

Norma - bloods will need to be taken. Very, very unlikely GP can sort them and get fast turnaround on the weekend (I live in London and my GP can't even do it during the week - fast turnaround bloods always equate to a GP referral to A and E).

GP urgent care is shut. So a and e our only option where we are.

hope everything is ok op Thanks

MountainPeaks · 31/12/2016 09:05

Bala - honestly, you don't need to justify your decision to go to A and E. Hope he's OK.

SoupDragon · 31/12/2016 09:07

Mozzchops Are you in medicine?

Actually, I believe she is, yes.

Hiphopopotamus · 31/12/2016 09:07

Agh this annoys me when people make you feel bad for going to A and E. Because it runs off on you. I had what I thought was just a bad kidney infection and knew I probably needed antibiotics. I couldn't get a GP appointment but I didn't want to go to a and e as I had it drummed into me that these kind of things weren't emergencies - it was just am infection. My friend in the end insisted I go to a and e and came with me in a taxi. As soon as I got there I was rushed to a bed and hooked up to all sorts of drips. I'd developed sepsis and was seriously ill. I probably would have died if i hadn't have gone to the hospital, but I was too worried I'd be wasting someone's time and that I wasn't had enough to justify it.

These aren't the reasons that a and e is under so much pressure. Please don't feel bad - just go. If there's a chance it could be life threatening then go!

MollyHuaCha · 31/12/2016 09:08

Hope everything is ok.

watchingthedetectives · 31/12/2016 09:09

A and E is totally appropriate - kids can get serious kidney problems after infections.
They need to dip the urine ASAP and I wouldn't be surprised if he is admitted (depending on the results)
And I do have a qualification although generally used in person not over the internet
