DH was weeing red yesterday and this is his wee this morning. He has a cold and has been taking lemsip. He's definitely had a temperature although no thermometer to check. Would this warrant a and e given the day/date? Thanks

Glad you are getting it sorted. Hope you don't need to go to a&e or have a similar emergency again but if you do, do you have a MIU ( minor injuries unit) near you? They are brilliant and will refer you to a&e as a priority if you need it.

MountainPeaks · 31/12/2016 09:53

I'm just pointing out that the NHS website does not say blood in the urine is an emergency.

No but it does advise if "there is severe bleeding from any part of the body", which this most likely is that A and E is the necessary service. That looks like serious internal bleeding (or malaria).

Patchouli666 · 31/12/2016 09:54

MIU's are in most areas. They are different to walk in centres. They are often attached to small town hospitals.

watchingthedetectives · 31/12/2016 09:54

This is not why hospitals are in meltdown

They are in meltdown mainly because of huge inadequacies in social care and mental health funding

A normally fit (not drunk) person in A and E with very abnormal urine needs to be seen and assessed to make sure he has not got an acute renal problem.

Hulababy · 31/12/2016 09:55

The fact that A&E triage put him as a priority would mean that actually A&E has been an appropriate action.

I do worry that the whole not going A&E thing has swung too far the other way with some MNetters (and real life.)

deloresclaiborne · 31/12/2016 09:55

ok i apologise

smellyboot · 31/12/2016 09:55

blood in urine as a warning symptom normally means a tiny bit. Not heavy bleeding that is indicated here! Defo an A&E job when no GP available - scary

iamamickey · 31/12/2016 09:55

So Glad you went to hosp! The fact u have been triaged as Priority means u defo did the right thing. Good luck and hope u and hub are well looked after xxx

Yoarchie · 31/12/2016 09:56

Good luck OP and husband

dArtagnansCrumpet · 31/12/2016 09:56

Ffs, the OP has rightly so gone to a and e her husband's piss looks like coca cola!

Don't you think she is stressed enough as it is with what's going on without you having a go whether going to a and e was wrong? Honestly!

Hope your husband is ok OP.

Lolimax · 31/12/2016 09:57

OP I hope your DH is ok and gets sorted soon. My 'condition' 2 years ago didn't fall into any of the categories stated. It's so rare I was sent home several times from the GP. If it wasn't for A and E I wouldn't be here now. Sometimes you have to act on instinct and just be seen.
Thank God for our NHS and all who look after her.

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/12/2016 09:57

Hope he's OK OP. Where are all of these mythical walk in centres? There used to be several in London - all gone now. Agree this is one for A & E rather than Minor Injuries Unit or ooo doctor.

Arriettyborrower · 31/12/2016 09:57

bala I hope he is ok.
Absolutely appropriate to take to A&E, difficult to tell from the pic but acute frank haematuria needs urgently investigating with bloods and imaging - not a GP matter over a bank holiday weekend!!!

Namejustfornappies · 31/12/2016 09:59

My Dh didn't want to go to a&e when he got dramatically I'll - after seeing a gp the day before and being prescribed antibiotics for an ear infection - I called an ambulance for him just 2 hours later as he collapsed and was unconscious with sepsis. This was 9 months ago and he's still recovering.
A&e is sometimes appropriate.

Kirriemuir · 31/12/2016 09:59

Blimey, hope he's ok OP.

WaitrosePigeon · 31/12/2016 10:00

Really hope your DH is ok.

turbohamster · 31/12/2016 10:05

I live reasonably close to a fairly large city. Our walk in centres don't open at the weekends, bank holidays or past 7pm in the evening.

DubiousCredentials · 31/12/2016 10:05

Wasn't a blackcurrant Lemsip was it?

amusedbush · 31/12/2016 10:08

Glad that he is being seen and being made a priority just shows that you were right to go to A&E. I hope you get answers soon.

Footle · 31/12/2016 10:09

Glad he's being seen asap. I would not have wasted his and the GP's time with such an obvious emergency.

PinkSwimGoggles · 31/12/2016 10:10

how much lemsip has he had? any other liver issues (alcohol).
yes to a&e. paracetamol overdose can be fatal.

Northernlurker · 31/12/2016 10:10

Mozzchops is a nurse I thought. No idea what she was on about tbh. The op had no other options and clear evidence of an emergency. Pee is not supposed to look like cola!

NormaSmuff · 31/12/2016 10:11

I would not have wasted his and the GP's time

that is the problem in this country,
we dont want to appear to be wasting anybody's time.
i had the same and when it was eventually resolved i was told not to leave it so long.

even coming on mn for opinions is wasting time.

anyway, hope he is sorted easily op.

intheknickersoftime · 31/12/2016 10:13

I'm extremely torn whether posting on here is a good idea. Internal bleeding, malaria and liver failure have all been mooted here. I don't blame the op for going but let's take this one step at a time. I hope he's OK OP, but I think these threads are a bad idea and just result in a bunfight and make an anxious op more agitated. It is true however, that a and E is often necessary but there are other options. That is a general comment, not specific to the original post.

SantaStoleMyStocking · 31/12/2016 10:13

Hope your DH is OK Op!
