BalaRua · 31/12/2016 08:39

google nhs and it isnt an emergency but does need a GP

intheknickersoftime · 31/12/2016 08:40

Some pharmacies are able to test urine samples and prescribe antibiotics until you're able to see a doctor. But no, I wouldn't be going to A and E. I would be ringing 111 first.

SprogletsMum · 31/12/2016 08:40

I'm glad you're going he definitely needs to be seen.

Fairylea · 31/12/2016 08:40

I have kidney problems and I take daily antibiotics. Blood in urine to that extent is an emergency and should be treated as such.

NormaSmuff · 31/12/2016 08:40

ring 111

MozzchopsThirty · 31/12/2016 08:41

And this is why our A&E departments are struggling!
Why not call an ambulance too? Hmm

SoupDragon · 31/12/2016 08:43

I think I'd go to out of hours GP rather than A&E. They will send you on ifnecessary.

ClarissaDarling · 31/12/2016 08:43

Off topic- you prev had sepsis? That is an emergency!

intheknickersoftime · 31/12/2016 08:44

There are so many other ways to be seen other than A and E and chances are you'll be waiting hours anyway.

MozzchopsThirty · 31/12/2016 08:44

Why not let a qualified GP decide if it's an emergency? Rather than Mumsnet?

If he's not heavy bleeding, unconscious, signs of a stroke then it's not A&E as a first call

mumonashoestring · 31/12/2016 08:44

FFS Mozz our A&E depts are struggling because of systemic funding and management issues, staffing problems and lack of secondary and continuation care services to discharge patients to, not because the occasional person starts showing potential symptoms of liver failure on a day when their GP surgery isn't open.

PotteringAlong · 31/12/2016 08:44

Because he doesn't need an ambulance. He does need urgent medical care because if there's that much blood in your urine something pretty damn serious is going on.

ThatsWotSheSaid · 31/12/2016 08:45

Yes I would.
Bleeding (especially when you don't know where from and how much) is an emergency IMO.

PotteringAlong · 31/12/2016 08:45

If he's not heavy bleeding, unconscious, signs of a stroke then it's not A&E as a first call

You know these are not the only accidents and emergencies that exist, right?

NoUseNumber27 · 31/12/2016 08:46

Definitely A&E, that is not normal pee!

NormaSmuff · 31/12/2016 08:46

if I ring 111 where I live, they assess and if they feel ooh gp they book it for you.

BingBongBingBong · 31/12/2016 08:47

^ agree

QueenMortificado · 31/12/2016 08:48

if he's not heavy bleeding, unconscious, signs of a stroke then it's not A&E as a first call

So heart attack, asthma attack, possible brain blood clot, internal bleeding - none of these are emergencies then?

Gingernaut · 31/12/2016 08:48

Drive or get a taxi, don't call an ambulance, go to A&E and bring some pee for the triage nurse to look at/test.

Good luck, hope he feels better soon.

Muddlingthroughtoo · 31/12/2016 08:48

I'd ring 111. It isn't an emergency, could be liver. My OH had this when he was diagnosed with fatty liver. He also had shivers, and a cold and fever.
I had a kidney infection over Christmas and the blood is bright red, not brown like that.

MozzchopsThirty · 31/12/2016 08:48

Yes I do thank you for pointing that out

I thought that listing every medical emergency known to man might be a little tiresome

Roastchesnutlatte · 31/12/2016 08:49

I think this is a prime example of why our health service is struggling.
Obviously this needs attention today and obviously a gp would be a better first option than a bunch of random strangers on the Internet or going to a and e.
BUT have you ever tried to see an out of hours gp? It's not exactly easy.
I appreciate some areas may be better than others but here, you have to phone 111, go through a barrage of questions on someone's checklist. If they feel it appropriate you then go on a list to be called back by an out of hours gp, up to several hours later.
We need a network of walk in out of hours gp clinics, would save so much strain on a and e
Hope all turns out well op
