For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Erm, I like the red sort, but then I like the ordinary sort a lot too.

I have just about been managing to go to the gym 3 times a week . I thought you might all be a bit sick of me ranting on about my muscles and how cute my personal trainer is, though

Now here is a question:

Why aren't loads of 10 /10ers coming to the meet up??

FrannyandZooey · 16/11/2006 12:26

Oh Aviatrix, I have been a twit and lost your address again, I am sorry

could you resend it please and I will post the book off to you next time I am in town? (this afternoon if I get it in time)

Parsnipillon · 16/11/2006 12:34

I was thinking of coming, have been to a meetup in Beetroot field. But glitterfairy is not coming, if she´s not coming, I am not coming.

Just ate a persimon, went to the gym this morning but did not work out, looked after the kiddies.

avegatrix I was vegetarian for 10 years but have now lapsed and eat meat sometimes. My dh is veggie now 6 years.

Twiglett · 16/11/2006 12:36

do banana muffins count?

what about roasted vegetables .. they must count .. but how many portions does one tbsp of aubergine, fennel, peppers, onion, garlic make?

I know minestrone soup will count

(that's about it for today so far _

Parsnipillon · 16/11/2006 12:41

teaspoons?? are you eating baby food?? a portion is around the size of your fist Twiglett

FrannyandZooey · 16/11/2006 12:43

Twig there are links on our old threads but I got bored redoing them every week (those ruddy pdf files screw up my pc)

will find one for you

FrannyandZooey · 16/11/2006 12:47

Twig look at my OP here for detailed advice on portion sizes

and welcome, btw to our fruity wonderland

Parsnipillon · 16/11/2006 12:58

Twig is channel surfering out of sheer boredom

Twiglett · 16/11/2006 12:59

am proud of myself as by my reckoning I've already got to 5 portions without trying

tbsp means tablespoon papillon (it was a cheese and roast veg toastie )

YoureTheOneForMeTatties · 16/11/2006 15:01

Aviatrix - I don't eat meat. We have a mainly veggie diet with a bit of fish thrown in. I haven't eaten meat for nearly ten years and don't miss it. I have always loved fish though so couldn't give that up. Exercise - I have an hour of pilates once a week but that's my only 'timetabled' exercise. I can't motivate myself to go swimming any more because it's too cold [wimp]. But I try to make a point of walking quite a bit and I run around after ds a lot! I think it's hard to fit it in if you don't have much time to yourself. I am wondering if ds would join in with me if I put an exercise video on? (I would need to get one first, of course.)

Franny - I think I'm too shy to come to the meet up But also I'm oop north and couldn't possibly leave ds...

Cunning tactic, aviatrix. I am so unimpressed with couscous (except for M+S giant couscous which is noticeably small pasta rather than the sort of sand / gravel effect you get with couscous.

Dp is not vegetarian but I don't like to have meat in the house and he is fab about it. He is occasionally getting stick from ds now about eating meat when we go out I feel a bit sorry for him really, he is a big fan of meat and all things unhealthy and he has adapted brilliantly to life with a couple of near fruitarians

I have been at the gym and managed to do level 14, interval 2 for 10 mins on the bike and won every time. I know nobody is going to know what I am on about or give a fig either, but you can all pretend, can't you?
