For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Parsnipillon · 14/11/2006 14:04

Very impressed FrannyandZucchini, makes you all stylish and exotic

Have just eaten a persimon, plum, load of grapes and had brocolli soup for lunch. This parsnip is glowing and content.

SauerKraut where in CH do you live? I am also of the CH variety. Just want to know so I can avoid ill winds from dodgy guts

FrannyandZucchini · 14/11/2006 14:31

I cooked a huge batch of parsnip, butternut, mushroom and red lentils today - goes beautifully with rice or quinoa, or as soup if thinned out a bit.

Am going to the gym tonight - will test my inhaler and see if it makes a difference.

WelshBoris · 14/11/2006 14:31

Parsnips are my current favourite vegetable

My boyfriend roasted some for me at the weekend

WelshBoris · 14/11/2006 14:32

There is nothing meant to be rude in that statement

FrannyandZucchini · 14/11/2006 14:34

Hmmm

well that's for us to judge really isn't it Boris?

WelshBoris · 14/11/2006 14:36

As soon as I posted it and saw the word "roasted" flash before my eyes I thought

I'll leave it up to you fruit freaks to decide

FrannyandZucchini · 14/11/2006 14:42

avegatrix : Great name And full respect for dragging your entire family along with you down vege lane

dd ate red lentil bulghar balls yesterday and loved them. I served them up when a friend came to visit - felt quite proud of making little things to serve up, will have to get an apron

Don´t go out Franny, its a jungle out there and Zucchini is such ravishing vegetable

Parsnipillon · 15/11/2006 08:05

Must say loads of vege is good for your sex drive... my 95 year old grandfather, recently bereaved was in his room with a woman on his knee!!! The same woman he had put his arms round her the other day and given her a kiss and said "I don't know what I would do without U here". So there is still plenty of life in the old boy yet.

He had ENORMOUS vegetable gardens overflowing with vegetable and a berry cage the size of texas.

!

FrannyandZucchini · 15/11/2006 08:07

Am quickly scarfing fruit before going to work; this is my busiest day but it's actually easier to have a healthy lunch, because I buy it out, and someone else chops up all the veg for me. I usually have a salady thing from M+S or a freshly made avocado and coleslaw sandwich from the fab sandwich shop (coleslaw is smothered in mayo but it's all good stuff )

Anyway dp mithering for the pc (he works from home today) so had better go...

Have a lovely and fibre filled day everybody

SauerKraut · 15/11/2006 16:02

Kanton Aargau, Parsnipillon. And you? Don't worry about being on the receiving end of ill winds- haven't been very far away from a bathroom since I started this! Today, radically, and not actually intentionally, I have eaten nothing but fruit and veg: 2 apples for breakfast in between emergency bouts of house-cleaning (visitors), broccoli, potatoes and carrots for lunch (didn't fancy the fish so the kids ate it all), and the most enormous pear for a snack. Not particularly exciting ones but can't have everything! 4 to go...

I am bulgharmanic atm!

Overrun · 15/11/2006 19:34

Oh, I must think of a name, I am doing so well on the portions front, so a different name would be a good reward. Something to do with onions maybe?
REd lentil, leek and cheese bake for lunch. Museli for breakfast, usual apples and bananas, some grapes. going to have sprouts and carrots and cabbage with my sausages tonight. A very windy affair I'm sure.

FrannyandZucchini · 15/11/2006 19:40

You mean Overonion, maybe?

Oh I know! Overrunnerbean

I had egg and beans and chips for tea, so not brilliant. Just bought a ton of fruit though, so will count how many I need to make up, and eat them. Had M+S beetroot salad for lunch with giant couscous, wheatberry and butternut salad, which is fabby, and an apple. Plus the usual 4 or 5 portions for breakfast.

I never follow recipes properly! No hot pepper, I use coriander and oregano with abit of miso and sweet chilli sauce - what I have in the kitchen already. have made it with brown lentils but not rolled into balls.

Overrunnerbean is a perfect name

Overrun · 15/11/2006 21:07

I love it, just have to work out how to change my name, any advice?
Franny glad to hear that you went to the doctor. Do give the inhaler a try. I am on inhalers and they can really help.

CAM are fine and I am not anti them, but do feel a bit suprised that when a gp has prescribed something, the common response it "can you try something natural"
Maybe I am being small minded about this, but do think Asthma can be a very serious illness. Hope I haven't offended any one.

FrannyandZucchini · 15/11/2006 21:12

Click up the top on "your registration" Overrun and you can change your name to whatever you like

Yes I know what you mean about conventional v. alternative medicine. I don't normally mind taking something that I feel is safe and effective, however sometimes it seems a bit hit and miss. I have used the inhaler tonight and noticed a small reduction in the symptoms, but again feel headachey and shaky. I am not too sure about it. If I was suffering with more severe symptoms I would not think twice about it, but the symptoms are fairly mild to begin with and I am not convinced the inhaler has actually helped much
