For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Is it this one . Overrun?

You poor thing. We had the curse of the mouth ulcers last year and it was so dreadfully miserable. I felt like crying in the evenings when it was worst and eating was just an ordeal. Ours was definitely a virus as we all had it, and dp who frequently suffers from mouth ulcers says these were the worst he had ever had. We were recommended Adcortyl in Orabase but TBH it only took the edge off them for dp and I couldn't have it as I was breastfeeding.

Earthymama · 25/11/2006 18:29

Hi everyone, hope you are all feeling better, though I guess you may all have rising damp from the amount of rain we've had.
I haven't been on here as had no time between eating fruit and exercising Ha Ha!

Actually I've been busy getting ready for my dSIL,dBIL and my dnephew and dneices to come for supper last night. Especially, my dn who is 15 and has just played Mrs Coulter in the first amateur production of 'His Dark Materials' in t'whole world!! It was amazing, absolutely wonderful but that's another thread.

What I want to tell you all is that for post-performance supper I made Squash and Parsnip Soup and it was a great success, the recipe is travelling to universities in London, Bristol and Manc'r as I type.

I'm really enjoying people's reactions when I say I'm eating 10 portions of fruit and Veg, many are horrified. Do you get the same amazed 'but what ARE you eating?'

FrannyandZooey · 25/11/2006 19:29

Mrs Coulter

OMG

fkn hell I want to play Mrs Coulter

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 26/11/2006 06:27

earthymama have just recognised your name! you are the person in need of knitting shops in south wales! (are you not? I think you are. The referance to rain sealed it)

am pleased to see us south waleans taking over the thread by stealth. thats 3 of us now...

i am getting back on track. I think the difficulty is that I am convinced I am a super healthy person, so if I am sick for more than a day or two dismiss it as p-sychological. So I am often sick for a long time cos I don't rest.

have resumed normal veg consumption. might attempt gym later.

fullmoonfiend · 26/11/2006 06:40

Can I come back? I've missed you guys and am determined to keep it up better this time.

Greeny, am so shocked to read your thread about you and the minisleeves - can't believe I issed it. Huge, healing hugs to you all, must have been terrifying.

FrannyandZooey · 26/11/2006 09:30

Hey FMF!

fullmoonfiend · 26/11/2006 09:32

It's your damn thread title what's tempted me back...I actually made a steaming bowl of parsnip soup the other day and couldn't think what had prompted me

FrannyandZooey · 26/11/2006 09:36
Earthymama · 26/11/2006 09:39

Franny shall I start a thread aboout Mrs Coulter? you would have loved that production, my dn has stunned us and is planning a career in the theatre, dahling!!

FillyJ (can I say I looove your name)Yes am Knitting South Walean (though spent my teens to 30's in St Helens. I'm also always thinking I'm ill (can't spell proper word for that condition)Ha Ha!

Re fruit I'm going to pecam muesli with mango and kiwi to follow. Then off to Cardiff so if you'll be there I'll be wearing teal check skirt and teal tights so bit un-missable and have got mad spiky short blonde hair wiv roots!!

Also I will be limping as i've just fallen downstairs!! I knew I was well padded for a reason

fullmoonfiend · 26/11/2006 09:48

I'm rushing off to re-read Northern Lights now!

FrannyandZooey · 26/11/2006 09:53

Wow, I think I am due for a reread too. I am always a bit put off starting again by the fact that the Amber Spyglass absolutely made me weep, I mean uncontrollable sobbing, which I have no speial desire to repeat any time soon.

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 26/11/2006 11:44

i can't read philip pullman

i want to but his characters are too preccocious

help me get into them please

ps blueberry pancakes with bananas am. in spirit of thread I ate lots.

fullmoonfiend · 26/11/2006 12:53

Gosh yes, full-on weepiness here too. But I love a gtood cry at a book.

Anyway, back with a bang! Have just made a mega pot of minestrone with fresh tomatoes, cabbage, carrots, onions, peas, green beans, sweet potato - that's got to be worth a few F and V points eh? (not to mention Smug Points for having grown the cabbage, onion, tomatoes and carrots myself )
And for dinner, roast chicken with peas, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, turnips and carrot mash and ahem, home grown poatoes.

Sadly though, this is the last of my home grown produce...haven't got the time to do winter veg on the allotment.

fullmoonfiend · 26/11/2006 12:57

FJ, it took me 3 attempts to get into Northern Lights as my dh had recommended them and our tastes differ in books. I just hate science fiction/fantasy stuff and I assumed this was more of the same. But after a lengthy flu bug - when I was so bored I'd have read the back of the cough medicine bottle and enjoyed it, I finally decided to give it one more go...and became utterly hooked.

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 26/11/2006 13:42

hello all, thanks for doing my link Franny. Aviatrix thanks for the tip. Welcome back Fullmoonfiend. Earthymamma, glad to have another Welshie on the thread. It just hasn't stopped raining all week has it?
Btw, the meal at the Bell was fantastic.
Have had museli, apple, roast beetroot, fresh horseradish, and dwarf beans for lunch. Not sure about tea yet.

Tatties · 26/11/2006 20:32

Hello everyone

I have been ill and ds
We were supposed to be going away this weekend but we had to cancel the trip! So I haven't been eating much of anything over the last couple of days...

Aviatrix glad you liked the curry! What was the march in aid of?

Overrun thanks for the cauli recipe, sounds good.

Fullmoonfiend, hello!

FrannyandZooey · 26/11/2006 20:44

Oh Tatties Was it the sickness thing?

Overrun how are your ulcers? And what did you eat at the Bell?

Greeny, great thread, wishing you all the best with it

Filly, I didn't really like any of his other books much but Northern Lights is just divine. Ignore the characters if you don't like them at first and just concentrate on the imagery and the language. My god it is FAB I am at the thought of you reading them for the first time. His Dark Materials just blew me away, just - wow.

Overrunnerbean · 26/11/2006 20:57

Loved the pullman books btw, forgot to say that earlier.
As long as vegetarians are okay hearing it: I had feuillette of rabbit and pheasant with creamy chive sauce and carrots and runner beans, then duck with truffled dauphinoise potatoes, honeyed parsnips, baby turnips, red wine jus, then cheese board with quince jelly, grapes, wholewheat crackers, and celery. Then coffee and petit fours, they also gave us canapes when we ordered. All washed down with a very nice bordeoux (half bottle), and a maderia with cheese.
Trying to do a link again. here it is

Overrunnerbean · 26/11/2006 20:57
