Can you really not give when you're breastfeeding? I was all pleased because I thought I could donate again at the end of next month

misdee · 29/10/2006 13:54

well mears says you can. i did try and
donate during the summer heatwave, so that could be why. i will try again when they return to the community centre.

Also now registered and forwarded links to my address book. x

pippo · 29/10/2006 16:29

thinking of you. Will give blood soon.

expatinscotland · 29/10/2006 16:30

I had hepatitis A and they won't let me give blood .

Hope this doesn't affect my being an organ donor, however.

2ndtime · 29/10/2006 17:47

Been in your shoes misdee. Sending you all love and the strenghth to keep fighting.xx

Loshad · 29/10/2006 17:56

Hugs misdee, I'm on the register, and give blood reguarly. Dh gives blood and platelets 9and is on register) - he's got whatever you call it when you've too much blood/red cells so they are happy to bleed him often

nikkie · 29/10/2006 17:58

(((Misdee)))
I am on the donor register but can't give blood

ntsmum · 29/10/2006 18:09

I've got an appt to give blood tomorrow am and my son and I lit a candle for you and your dh at church last night..

edam · 29/10/2006 18:20

So sorry that things are looking bleak Misdee. I really really hope you get the call for a transplant soon. Dh donates blood (I can't) and we are both on the organ register.

EliBoo · 29/10/2006 19:14

((Misdee)) so would if I could, but not allowed (had hepatitis few years ago). I do badger everyone else to though. Often think of you, and Peter, have everything helplessly crossed.

dhwhoooooooo · 29/10/2006 19:18

I'm so sorry.

I will put myself on the organ list as requested. Wishing you all the love in the world.

lizziemun · 29/10/2006 19:24

misdee,

sorry to hear your dh is not well again, i can't give blood but dh does and we are both donors.

Sorry to be nosey but could you tell me what harefields hopital is like, as my dad has to go there next month to have part of one lung removed.

Glassofslime · 29/10/2006 19:28

have put myself on the list and so has dh. Have never given blood, always meant to do it, but I will do it now.

WriggleJiggle · 29/10/2006 19:30

bump

misdee · 29/10/2006 19:34

Lizziemum, the outside of the building itself is rundown, glum and not very nice. inside is better. its an old hospital, lots of narrow corridors. but the medical teams are fantastic, the porters are friendly, the hospital is very clean, the grounds are great, though probably too cold to go for a wander.

if your father is in ITU then you will pass the transplant unit. let me know when you are there, you never know, we may have had a call by then.

lizziemun · 29/10/2006 19:53

I will do and hopefully your dh will fet his transplant.

Thanks didn't want to bother you, he been in a couple of times in the last few months. He trying to arrange his operation for november when his wife in america, so me and my sister can visit him.

misdee · 29/10/2006 20:05

god luck and well wishes to you and your family as well.

am on the organ doner register, and have only given blood twice but the last time I gave blood I felt ve faint after and that's put me off going back tbh.

I think the rule about not being able to donate blood/organs if you've had a transfusion has something to do with cjd, but could be wrong.
