big hugs for you - i am so, so sorry.

In addition to registering as an organ donor, it's important to let all your loved ones know how you feel. I have told my dh I want ALL my organs donated despite what my family may say ( in know they would be against it)

Also, you have to be over approx 50kgs to give blood - i know as I am under that.

Toothyboy · 29/10/2006 10:40

Am already a regular blood donor and have just registered for organ donation through your link.
My thoughts are with you and your family.

mears · 29/10/2006 10:43

Misdee - you can give blood while you are breastfeeding as long as you are not anaemic and your baby is older that 9 months.

info here

iris66 · 29/10/2006 10:45

Bless you for raising awareness of this, especially as it's at such a hard time for you. I'll be resuming blood donation once I've stopped bf. DD has just got herself a donor card & registered too. Every little helps

misdee · 29/10/2006 10:54

mears, i went to give blood over the summer, dd3 was over a year old, but they said i couldnt as was still breastfeeding. but they mentioned it about it being very hot at the time.

BlackMagicMiaou · 29/10/2006 11:00

Misdee, I have just registered. I thought I did it ages ago but when I checked, I hadn't. But I have now.

Dh carries a donor card and both the dds have expressed a wish to become donors. I will get them to register online too.

(((((((hugs)))))))))

Gobbledispook · 29/10/2006 11:01

I'm already on it Misdee but no harm in keeping the thread bumped.

Love to you all
x

hunkermunker · 29/10/2006 11:06

I'm on the organ donor register through Boots Advantage Card - I have the symbol printed on it, so anyone going through my wallet knows. All my family know of my wishes too.

I have given blood once successfully, and twice I've been and they've been unable to get it out of my veins

I will try again once DS2 is 10mo - thanks for the info, Mears.

fishie · 29/10/2006 11:08

misdee i have given blood three times while breastfeeding (not simultaneously ) and they have never ever mentioned it as an issue. how peculiar, your unit must be giving duff advice.

mears · 29/10/2006 11:10

misdde - just don't tell them

If you aren't anaemic it is fine to donate.

foulmoonfiend · 29/10/2006 11:16

Misdee, I joined the register a year ago thanks to reading your story, and I already give blood. But I am so sorry you are feeling so low and helpless. Wish I could give you a real hug...You are an amzing woman.

NappiesGalore · 29/10/2006 11:32

misdee - so sorry to hear about it - my thoughts are with you all.

have registered for both blood and organ donation, made an appt for blood and asked about platlets too.

((hug))

Eowyn · 29/10/2006 11:34

I've signed up.

Charleesunnysunsun · 29/10/2006 11:34

Thinking of you all Misdee.

I am an Organ donor and i promise to give blood as soon as i stop my medication. I feel it a duty as i have a rare blood type.

misdee · 29/10/2006 13:27

thank you all.

Peter is up and about now, which is a relief. he is sleeping so much lately, and is so so pale.

I know we almost lost him last summer, and one bad infection now could kill him, but its hard going somedays. i mean he looks ok, he isnt skin and bone, and he isnt full of fluid either. his body is covered in scars already, and he will have a few more to add to it yet.

but we just need a donor.

OP posts:
saltire · 29/10/2006 13:37

I know what it's like to be waiting with someone for that call to come.
I have been on the organ donor register since i was 16, and recently renenwed my registration.
Think of you often

Blandmum · 29/10/2006 13:40

I can't help but think that Peter isn't actually being kept alive by that stunning medical miracle that is helping his heart.

He is actually kept alive by one seriously amazing woman. You are fucking amazing Misdee. I tip my hat to you!

misdee · 29/10/2006 13:41

yes, because i plug him in at night

OP posts:
Blandmum · 29/10/2006 13:47

And you don't forget which one he is plugged into when it gones to plugging in the hoover

Littlefish · 29/10/2006 13:49

This has just given me a big kick up the bum. I always used to give blood, but stopped when I was pregnant. Dd is now 2, so there's absolutely no excuse now. I promise to go as soon as I get my next letter Misdee.

Thinking of you, Peter and your darling girls.
