Just had scan results and GP told me they found a 5.7 cm cyst on my left ovary. I've been getting mid cycle bleeding and though I was menopausal!

Anyone had one of these.?I did google but it's too scary.

I'm now waiting for a gynae appointment.

She is 50. She did a lot of thinking before agreeing to it. She is looking forward to being pain free.

That's a long wait. Do you mind me asking, is it NHS?

Yeh it's nhs. I won't be having my surgery until September Confused

Flyingducky · 13/03/2014 08:16

I remember you saying you are waiting for a specific surgeon plus I suppose you also need that time for the medication they gave you to do its thing?

Are they helping with pain management?

I think my friend waited for around. 6 months for hers.

Hi

Just found this thread and looking to share experiences really.

Initially back in December I had pain in left ovary (ovulation like pain), very tender stomach area and what was thought a severe UTI.

Now several months later still experiencing symptoms of UTI (constant burning) although there is no infection but a scan has revealed 6cm cyst on left ovary, congestion on right side of pelvis and my bladder is not emptying completely.

I am waiting an appointment to see a gynaecologist (GP referral) but she has said they might refer me to a urologist as not sure if this is all related. Could be congestion is pushing down on bladder and other areas down below as I also have feeling like a prolapse although that has been also ruled out.

Can anyone shed any light on what all these symptoms could mean? I currently have a mirena coil (last 10 yrs) so no periods so no area what else could be going on.

TIA

Flyingducky · 13/03/2014 13:27

Hi joecaitlinsmum.

It could be a symptom of ovarian cyst. at 6cm it can press against your bladder and make things uncomfortable. Mine is around the same size and definitely does when I lie down.
When you get your gynae appointment take a list of symptoms and make sure you mention them all.

Did you have transvaginal scan already? You may get MRI to investigate further.

Disclaimer: I'm the OP so no expert! It's a steep learning curve. Lots of folk on this thread have more experience than me in these matters...

Got date for op through this morning. In 3 weeks time..

Bang in the middle of school holidays! Childcare nightmare ahead.

I'm trying to get hold of consultant now as I have some questions. Wondering why they want to remove the whole ovary not just the cyst. Also about this ca 125 being raised and what it means.

OP posts:
maiacam · 24/03/2014 09:46

I have just had 3 horrible months with an ovarian cyst. The CA125 is not a reliable marker mine was 125 should have been 35. I wish I had never found out what it was as it worried me greatly before the op. A raised marker could mean cancer but equally could mean a benign cyst. It just means there is some sort of inflammation in the ovaries. I had mine out on the 4 March with the ovary and I was happy to get rid of the wretched thing. It was a chocolate cyst. They took the whole ovary in case it grew back I think. The operation was fine it was keyhole with no problems. Its just the waiting for results which is worst x

Flyingducky · 27/03/2014 18:07

Miacam thanks for sharing your experience.

I hope you are recovering well. When will you get your result?

Had pre op appointment today. 2 weeks til my operation. A bit scared but looking forward to being cyst free. I was told I will stay overnight so to pack a bag. Would appreciate any advice on what to pack and how to plan for recovery.

Hi it was benign thank goodness. The op and recovery was fine. I stayed in for the night nothing special to take just loose fitting tracksuit bottoms when I went home. I only had one panadol after that if you want to know anything else pm me xx

maiacam · 28/03/2014 09:30

Also it was 7 cm and done by keyhole x

Flyingducky · 01/04/2014 23:17

Miacam great news that's it benign. Now hopefully you can put it all behind you. Hope you are recovering well. How long you off work?

Good idea about tracksuit. I've got a pair of soft leggings with folded waistband I will take. And big mummy knickers!!

How does getting general anaesthetic feel? Were you really spaced out afterwards? I'm nervous about being put to sleep. Big fear I don't wake up. Silly hey?

9 days to go......

Hi yes recovering very well its a month now. I work from home but could have gone back to a job after two weeks I guess. I had only a little pain just tired.
The GA was fine I hadn't had one before either had had 2 elective c sections though but was awake. I wasn't really spaced out just tired as it was done in the evening at 7pm.

To be honest I was just happy to go to sleep as it the first decent sleep I had for 4 months not worrying about the cyst. The op took about an hour and I was an hour in recovery. I lost one ovary with the cyst, I didnt want to lose both as I would have to take HRT as I am 43.

They also took both fallopian tubes. I asked them to as I dont want any more children and there is strong evidence now beginning to come through that most ovarian cancers start in the tubes.

Just dived in to wish y'all good luck (ducky for a couple of weeks and Nutcracker for Sept)

I will be back to nosey from time to time but I'll be bailing out of this thread because..............................................................

I've got a gall-bladder stone . I'd never in a month of Sundays have thought of that (though my Mum had her Gallbladder removed in her lates 30s)

Good Luck Ladies Wink

Flyingducky · 06/04/2014 14:52

70 thanks very much for the good wishes. 3 days to go....
Shock at it being your gallbladder! What are they planning to do?

I'm wondering if they are removing my tube too. I'm looking forward to the sleep and drugs. That's interesting Maiacam that's it's taken you a month to recover. I have been going around saying I will be all recovered in a couple of weeks and everyone's looking at me like this>>>>Hmm

Flyingducky · 06/04/2014 14:52

How long do you think before I can return to exercise? I'm a runner.

OP posts:
maiacam · 06/04/2014 15:09

I think you could start after 2 weeks if you felt up too it! If they are taking the ovary the tube will go I presume I asked them to take the other one too just the tube

TheOriginalNutcracker · 06/04/2014 15:26

Thanks 70's. Unfortunatly my op is now being done asap as my ca125 is now significatly raised and my insides are a mess.

They don't 'think' it is cancer, they think it is just the endo cocking up the blood test results, but I have been told I need major surgery, removal of womb, ovaries and tubes (not sure about cervix), and it won't be keyhole.
Ive also been warned that they need a kindey and bowel specialist on standby as I might need a colostomy bag :(

TheOriginalNutcracker · 06/04/2014 15:27

Sorry posted too soon.

What are they going to do about your gallbladder 70's ?

Flyingducky · 06/04/2014 16:35

TON so sorry to hear this Sad

OP posts:
Flyingducky · 06/04/2014 16:36

Have they given you a date? I hope you've got good support around you.

OP posts:
TheOriginalNutcracker · 06/04/2014 18:35

I'm back at the hospital tomorrow ducky, to meet the surgeon who will do the op and i think to have my pre-op too. I assume they will give me a date then.

A lot of people have said that they have to tell you you might need a colostomy, but people rarely end up with one. Still really scared of that though.

My mum lives close by so she will help, and my ex has said he will sort the kids whilst I am in hospital.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/04/2014 22:34

Good Luck tomorrow TheOriginal - will they only know for sure when the "go in" ?

Flying you are ? Wednesday for yours?

It's all happening now!

(I have an appointment in June to see the GallBladder dep. Then , I presume, they'll arrange to remove it. I'm relieved that the backache, D&V and 'losing three days a month' wasn't nothing)

Still flipping hurts though Sad

Flyingducky · 07/04/2014 21:20

How did your meeting with the consultant go TON?

Glad to hear you've got support. Remember they always give you list of risks but the percentages are very low.

70 So you have a minimum 8 week wait for your op? Are they helping you with pain management in the meantime? Doesn't seem fair to leave you in pain for that long Sad

OP posts:
Flyingducky · 07/04/2014 21:21

Yes Thursday this week. Getting nervous....
