FlyingDucky · 05/02/2014 17:23

Just had scan results and GP told me they found a 5.7 cm cyst on my left ovary. I've been getting mid cycle bleeding and though I was menopausal!

Anyone had one of these.?I did google but it's too scary.

I'm now waiting for a gynae appointment.

*Flying, try not to stress after going on that website, we've all done that then regretted it.

Good news that you've got a date.

DragonMamma · 06/02/2014 18:53

Oh and they were going to remove it in my second pregnancy but at a scan at 16wks it had 'disappeared' so they let me have a HB. I knew it hadn't gone but it transpired it wrapped itself around the back of my uterus and out of sight. Good on Cyril.

CoddledAsAMommet · 06/02/2014 19:25

Mine was 2.5 kilos when it was taken out! I had no pain at all, oddly, but couldn't eat much as it pressed on my stomach and grew rapidly so I was wearing maternity clothes and looked 6months pregnant. I now have a big Caesarian-type scar and have 6-monthly checks as it had pre-cancerous cells. No issues since.
The worst thing was having to go to the school playground before the summer holidays looking pregnant, then coming back in September post-op and with no bump and no baby. People obviously thought the worst. I have a photo of my enormous cyst if you want to see?!?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/02/2014 20:42

Shock 2,5kg is over 5lb5oz -according to online conversion table
they must've wondered for sure where your bump went.

and photos.............. scientific curiosity has got the better of me even though my brain screams for bleach .

i made dh prod my abdomen and he thinks he can feel something

grape sized
orange sized
what Confused

Crazyhours · 06/02/2014 21:06

I had one a few years ago. Kept getting this on/off pain in my right side, just in from my hipbone. It got worse but I just ignored it and just took ibuprofen . One night, after several months of intermittant pain, I had the most excruciating pain (I was fainting and vomiting from the pain) and took myself off to A&E. They gave me morphine and kept me in. Ultrasound scan showed a cyst approx 15x15cm that had twisted around my Fallopian tube and ruptured and bled into my ovary. They tried keyhole but in the end had to be cut open and lost my right ovary/Fallopian tube. Was VERY paranoid about every jiggling pain in my ledt side after that, thankfully I had an understanding GP sent me for scans whenever I got into a panic. I was so worried about it happening again and losing my fertility. Have not had any further problems (touch wood) and think myself lucky to now have 2 DCs.

Crazyhours · 06/02/2014 21:07

Jiggling? Niggling! Grin

TheOriginalNutcracker · 06/02/2014 21:13

Could anyone else feel their cysts move sometimes. Mine do and it feels like a baby kicking.

poorbuthappy · 06/02/2014 21:15

What made me laugh was that I list exactly 4lb after surgery!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/02/2014 21:53

Nutcracker - I only saw my GP yesterday and took my Scan Request in today (had blood test) so I'm not anywhere near a diagnosis for what's going on with me......but yes , I get the 'pushing' like a tiny elbow or foot and a 'fluttering' like a kick.
Weird to explain it but that's exactly how it feels.
That's the pleasant bit.
The pain, the bloating, the skewer-like stabbing pain, not pleasant.

Now NHS, I know it's getting near the end of the Financial Year, but the waiting begins.

(still Shock @ the size of some of these cysts )

CoddledAsAMommet · 06/02/2014 22:27

Ok I hope this isn't too horrific! You can see my normal ovary on the left, just a small lump, and the crazy big one in the surgeon's hand. Will have to delete the photo off the iPad as I'm not sure I can explain to DH exactly why I'm showing pictures of my innards to the world....

TheOriginalNutcracker · 06/02/2014 22:31

OMG coddled Shock That must have been painful.

70isalimit - The pain, bloating and general feeling shit is so draining. My pain wakes me every night too, so I feel knackered all the time.

CoddledAsAMommet · 06/02/2014 22:36

It didn't hurt at all, weirdly, apart from when it twisted a couple of times and I felt like I was in full-blown labour for about 20 minutes. I was very lucky they took it out when they did, as the Fallopian tube had twisted so it could have ruptured if left. I lost the whole ovary and tube as they'd degenerated. Three years on now and all is fine.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/02/2014 22:37

"Jings"

That is a stonker Coddled
And no pain?
You'd think as the skin on your ovary stretched, it would be henious.
Your innards are probably in The Lancet Wink

I'm not going to do any Google searches , Dr Google is not my friend.

But thank you Thanks for sharing that and YY to deleting before your DH starts questioning .

CoddledAsAMommet · 06/02/2014 22:51

I do remember coming round from the op to see the surgeon standing over me with the photo-he seemed ever so pleased with me for growing such a big one, I felt like his favourite patient!I must admit I'd been fully prepared to go my whole life without ever seeing my own ovaries so it was odd to have a picture of them. And now yo u all know what my insides look like, but not my face. Peculiar!

FlyingDucky · 06/02/2014 22:56

Wow. You have a prize winning cyst there coddled! I'm amazed that you had no pain.

I'm loving the names [cyril]. If mine turns out to be friendly I'm doing it!

Ps.
No more googling for me either

I am thankful to you all for sharing your stories. Sorry you all had to go through this. I had 2 cysts 17.5cm and 9.5cm removed after much arguing. Looked pregnant except I wasn't. Instantly wasn't pregnant looking post op!

IBS symptoms were also part of the deal too.

Have a scan set up as all the symptoms are back. Grrrrr
Pushing and kicking are exactly how to describe it
OP I hope it all goes well for you

Bimbledorf · 06/02/2014 23:26

I can't believe all these comments (and photos!!) on this thread. I had a scan on tues looking for cysts etc as I have been having loads of pain on right side of abdomen and look like I am 6 months plus pregnant. The bloating and pressure are extreme. I also feel and can see a lump moving in my abdomen, v freaky! I asked the scanning lady at the end saying I know you aren't supposed to tell me really but is there anything obvious. She said nothing to worry about. Not sure if that means there is nothing there or if there is but it's a harmless (hmm) cyst?! Time will tell.
I have loads of scarring on the same side from a burst appendix when I was 13 so maybe it's just that suddenly plying up??
Hope you get quick answers 70's and you get sorted soon to OP

defineme · 06/02/2014 23:45

I thought I had gallstones as I had 2 episodes of intense pain and vomiting, but I had a scan yesterday that showed cysts all over my ovaries-the scan nurse said she couldn't see where one ended and another started.
I had 3 cysts removed 15 years ago(went to drs about hideous periods and failure to conceive) and was dx with endemetroisis, had 3 kids by ivf and then had a mirena coil which was bliss as periods stopped for years.
I have been bleeding since August (sometimes just spotting sometimes heavy) and so cysts explain a lot.
If I have the awful pain and vomiting again should I go to A and E in case it's something bursting? I think my referral will take a while and I'm worried!
I'm so pleased I found this thread as I thought the pain/vomiting wasn't linked to cysts and was very confused when my gall bladder was fine.

FlyingDucky · 07/02/2014 07:34

Does anyone mind if I request that MNHQ move this thread to health?

There is some very useful information on here that could help others, and as it is in chat it will disappear in a few months.

Good Plan Flying

I'll be back, searching when I'm a bit further down the line.

And I'll be expecting UPDATES from you. Wink

But: Questions:

Do you need a full bladder for the scan (like in pg scans?)

Is it an external scan?
Internal scan?

How long does the whole scan take (not including the waiting about, you can't tell with that)

Can they scan you when you have a period?

TIA

Bimbledorf · 07/02/2014 12:33

70, all the details should be on the letter, the one I had answered all those questions. But just incase not...

You need a full bladder for the first part - abdominal scan
Then you will empty your bladder (oh the relief!!)

Next it's the internal one and no it doesn't matter at all if you are bleeding.

The scan was about 20 mins altogether.

RowanMumsnet · 07/02/2014 17:28

Hello

We've moved this to General Health now. Hope you're all getting good advice and support, here and in RL.

Thanks MNHQ Smile

  1. I just had pelvic scan which was internal. You had to have an empty bladder. It only took 5 mins.

Yes you can be scanned during your period.

11 days til my appt.

I made a little 5.7 cm papier-mâché cyst today so I could visualise what it looked like. I'm odd aren't i!?

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/02/2014 23:39

Not odd at all...........................well maybe a BIT Wink

It will help you to visualise it (like when people 'measure' their unborn "It's the size of a kidney bean/an orange/a banana"

I'm sitting here with continual 'pinching' on my left side and it feels like a fist is pushing , but thankfully not as painful as earlier this week.

So, your appointment in 11 days - this is with gynae?
Have they told you what will happen next?

I'll keep lurking back here.
