Just had scan results and GP told me they found a 5.7 cm cyst on my left ovary. I've been getting mid cycle bleeding and though I was menopausal!

Anyone had one of these.?I did google but it's too scary.

I'm now waiting for a gynae appointment.

k999

yours is the first other experience of a young dd having some sort of cyst other than my daughter experience iyswim

it was very frightening because at one point they took me to a side room and mentioned the c word. this was because they could not tell what was in it. she had only just turned ten. mumsnet was so supportive to me.

i was very relieved that it want down and also have to go straight back to the hospital should she get that pain again. Sad x

I had a 20x20cm dermoid cyst removed off an ovary. They found it while doing my c-section and removed it there and then.

I had always had bad periods but managed them with the pill and in recent years put it down to coming off the pill or having just had a baby. They found it whilst I was having my second baby, with a small gap between.

It was gross Grin and those close to me still laugh about it now (think full of hair and teeth) I saw the whole op as a kind of 'buy one, get one free' thing. Had no idea it was there but they took it but saved my ovary and been completely fine ever since.

Dermoid cysts are very very rarely anything other than benign (or so I was told), they took it out but could tell what it was there and then. Although I had to wait for the results the consultant was pretty sure that it wasn't anything scary.

If I can have a football removed off an ovary I can't see why a hysterectomy would be considered?!

I know every case is different but I would really try not to worry. Smile

Sorry, somehow missed lots of posts. I'm sorry that so many have had much worse experiences. I didn't mean to be blasé or insensitive.

FlyingDucky · 05/02/2014 22:40

20cm. wow. I've had 2 csections so I know what they entail. I'm hoping mine is small enough for keyhole surgery though.

That's reassuring to hear that the chance of it being malignant is small.

Sorry Flying. Seriously though, it was all fine. Honestly the worst part was being put to sleep! I had to stay in over night because of the drain, but was walking around without any pain as soon as I was recovered from the GA. Healed very quickly.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/02/2014 23:04

Hi Flying

I've had pains for months now but I'd say I really noticed them getting bad since maybe August.
My periods have been a bit wavery for a couple of years- months between bleeds, then the occasional heavy bleed ( My GP gave me antibiotics a couple of years back for a possible abscess so it could've been back then)

But I'd noticed I was getting the symptoms - bloaty, spotty, crampy but no bleed every month.

The last 3 months though, I've really suffered. At the moment it feels like someone is stabbing me repeatedly on my left side (between hip and bellybutton)

I dosed myself up on painkillers and literally slept all Sunday Night/Monday/Monday Night.
Yesterday and today, I'm like an old woman Sad

Tomorrow I'll have a blood test and hand in my form, then I wait.

I'm sure I'm going Perimenopausal (47) so if ovaries etc need to be removed, it's not a huge ordeal.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/02/2014 23:11

Oh and backache (but I have backache 50% of my time so it kind of pales until it flares up. Which is has) Sad

FlyingDucky · 06/02/2014 08:24

That sounds miserable 70. Glad to hear you have the ball rolling. Hopefully you will be scanned fairly quickly. What painkillers did you find effective?

I'm around your age and did the same, putting it down to hormonal changes due to peri menopause. Plus I do lots of exercise so am used to aches and pains from that.

Went running this morning and had brown blood clots when I showered Sad. This is no fun.

Thanks for the reassurance voldy

Oh one more question. Did anyone get clear fluid? I used tampon after last bleed and when I removed it, it was soaking wet with clear fluid with no smell.

Weird.

Pain cd be the weight of the cyst starting to twist ovary and Fallopian tube which was starting to happen with me (10 plus cm and growing out of side of ovary) surgeon said had saved bit if ovary and periods continued (tho had had both children and didn't want more) Good to get it removed don't worry too much about op. Will be fine!

elliepac · 06/02/2014 08:58

Wow. So glad I found this thread. Am currently sat in hospital having been diagnosed with dermoid cysts ( 11x5 and 6x5). Came in on Sunday with pain exactly as another poster described on the left hand side between hip and belly button. It was excruciating. Original diagnosis was kidney stone but when scanning for that they picked up these cysts and am now awaiting a decision on when they are operating. Am on lots of drugs which are keeping the pain at bay. The 'c' word has been mentioned but chances are very slim I am told.

HoratiaDrelincourt · 06/02/2014 13:09

Good luck ellie. If the rest of us are anything to go by, the relief will be almost instant.

mejon · 06/02/2014 13:35

I'm another one who found out yesterday that I have a cyst. I had the most appalling pain in my lower abdomen for several days a few weeks ago and eventually saw the GP who booked me in for a scan as I already have fibroids and a coil that we were worried had gone astray or moved.

Not sure how big it is but she's now referred me to a gynaecologist and today had some blood taken for various tests including the somewhat worrying CA125 (and she did ask me if I had any family history of 'big things'). The pain went for a week or so but came back on Monday - Dr Google suggested it might be IBS as I'm having some other symptoms but my GP wants to check other causes first before heading down that path. Pain is much better today thank God (though I had a funny turn in the night when I got up to take some pain relief and came out in a cold sweat and vomited). I'm only really able to get relief from co-codamol when it's really bad but am concerned about using them too much as the packaging tells you you can quickly become addicted to them.

Greatdomestic · 06/02/2014 13:55

Hi OP

I had severe pain for ages. Badgered my GP for a gyno apt and discovered I had an ovarian cyst on my left ovary. Small by their standards, only 5.5cm. I had thought it was must my age and that the symptoms were just peri menopausal.

I had it removed, as well as my left ovary last year. It was damaged due to endemetriosis. I do feel much better now and can't believe I put up with the pain for so long.

Greatdomestic · 06/02/2014 13:59

Mejon, don't panic too much about the CA125 test. My results were elevated slightly before my op.

mejon · 06/02/2014 14:24

Thank you greatdomestic. I've had a few done before (when I was pg with DD1 and the fibroids were found but they weren't sure if they were just fibroids or something more sinister). I'm not aware that I have any other OC symptoms so I'm sure it's just to rule it out rather than rule it in (hopefully Confused).

TheOriginalNutcracker · 06/02/2014 14:34

Ive got a large cysts on each ovary and signs of extensive endo. I am waiting to see a consultant about it all.

The way I feel atm I want the whole lot taking out. I only have about 4 days a month where I don't need to take any kind of pain relief, and the pain during my periods is horrific.

I had a raised CA125 result, but it can be raised due to endometriosis so I am not too worried, yet.

Looksgoodingravy · 06/02/2014 14:50

I've been getting intermittant pain on my left side (just below the hip) pain ranges from extreme stabbing pain to what I can only describe as a very mild toothache?

Mentioned it to the GP a two weeks ago (when I went about a water infection) he told me to hang fire a few weeks, see if the pain eases.

I have to Mirena coil fitted and tbh worried about ectopic pregnancy but I've had no blood loss and I'm not feeling the sharp stabbing pains i was a few weeks back.

Just waiting game I suppose!

Looksgoodingravy · 06/02/2014 14:51

Excuse the typo's !

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/02/2014 15:14

I said to DH that I sometimes have a strange 'pushing' from within - it feels like when your unborn baby puts their foot against you and stretches (intra uterine) but it's on my right side.

This can be any time and not painful.

DH was Hmm and muttered "gas".

I'm Shock how common these symptoms are - now I'm waiting for an appointment for a scan and blood test results to come through.

FlyingDucky · 06/02/2014 17:20

Really feel for all of those in pain.

I got gynae appt through today. Its on 18th. It sound like some if you have been waiting a while for appointments?

I spoke to my GP and he told me that here there is a 2 week rule. If you have a growth which they are undecided about you must be seen by gynae within two weeks.

He also made a point of telling me that what the scan showed may not be a cyst, in fact he described it as "matter" part solid, part cystic. Has anyone else had this?

He said tell gynae all symptoms as the bleed may be from something else.

Of course I googled and went on cancer research site and scared myself totally. Still feeling quite worried and fearful this afternoon.

FlyingDucky · 06/02/2014 17:21
  1. That describes my discomfort perfectly. It's exactly like when your baby pushes their little foot against your ovaries and bladder.

I hope you get your scan date quickly.

Great domestic. Good to hear you feel better now

I've had 2 dermoids removed - the pain was just niggling both times but I knew something was there. We went on to have 2 kids so if that's an issue I wouldn't worry. The second removal was keyhole and v quickly recovered. To be honest all finejust infuriatingat the time that there was no cause - I thought Id keep getting them all my life but went again for a scan recently and there was nothing there, so maybe Im getting 'ghost' symptoms now!

DragonMamma · 06/02/2014 18:51

I had a 9x10cm one removed almost 2 years ago, it kept growing so it had to come out. I named him Cyril.

Mine was first picked up in pregnancy but only 4x5cm and then it caused bleeding in my second pregnancy by which point it had doubled in size and when not pregnant I felt 'full' in that region, like I was bloated and would have stabbing pains in that area, especially around ovulation.

Surgery was keyhole and I healed ok in a couple of weeks. I have a nasty feeling that Cyril The Second is in situ though.
