Ovarian cyst

FlyingDucky · 05/02/2014 17:23

Just had scan results and GP told me they found a 5.7 cm cyst on my left ovary. I've been getting mid cycle bleeding and though I was menopausal!

Anyone had one of these.?I did google but it's too scary.

I'm now waiting for a gynae appointment.

Well I am back and pleased with how it went and a bit in shock i think.

They said I have a 4cm chocolate cyst on my right ovary, and a 7cm mass on my left one which is so extensive that they can't see my overy or fallopian tube or anything on that side. They are as confident as they can be that it is as a result of the endometriosis but obviously they can't be 100% sure, so I am to have my ca125 level checked again next week.

They said that I have 3 options, all surgical. 1) they go in and have a look ad report back. 2) they go in and remove some endo, the left side mass and the cyst, or 3) they go in and i let them to what they like, which is likely to be removal of the mass on my left, the ovary and fallopinan tube, removal of the cyst on my right ovary and removal of as much endo as they can. I MAY also lose my right ovary if they think it is damaged too much.

I have opted for option 3. The only problem is the wait time. If i want the top bloke to do it (who i saw today), then it will be Sept time. If I opt for a member of his team it would be a bit sooner.
I have opted for the top bloke, and I will be having Prostap injections for the next 4mths to put me into menopause and stop my periods and pain and then I have to come off them for 2/3 mths before the surgery.

If I get bad side effects from being put into menopause then they will give me hrt.

nut (((hugs to you))) xx bugger

TheOriginalNutcracker · 26/02/2014 18:20

Thank's PC Smile

I think it is the words mass, and menopause that have made me feel wobbly, but oh well, what will be will be. I'm just pleased that I will finally have an end to the pain for a few mths and then hopefully for good if not a long time.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/02/2014 19:28

Hi Nutcracker - just reading through some of your early posts about the pain and the not sleeping.
If you wait till September will you be out of pain with the treatment they propose?

Seems a heck of a long way away but at least you know more now than you did yesterday.

Good Luck Smile

TheOriginalNutcracker · 26/02/2014 20:17

I should be 70 yeh. The injections will stop my periods and drop my levels of oestrogen (i think, might have that wrong) and so my periods will stop.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 26/02/2014 20:20

September does seem like forever away, but I really would prefer the top bloke to do it as I've read how important it is to have someone who knows what they are doing.

Littlefish · 26/02/2014 21:49

Nutty - I had to have my left ovary and Fallopian tube removed as a dermoid cyst had completely overwhelmed them, and the whole mess had tucked itself away in my a Pouch of Douglas. I was 44 when I had the operation. Possibly co-incidentally, or possibly not, I had to start taking HRT about 8 months later as my previously slight peri-menopausal symptoms really ramped up and started causing me problems.

I absolutely agree that it's worth having the best surgeon you can find.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 26/02/2014 22:25

How did you find the recovery littlefish ??

I just want my life back tbh. I am so sick of being in pain, tired and having zero energy.

I'm hoping that i'll be one of those for whom if HRT is needed it works really well. Have you felt ok on it ??

Littlefish · 26/02/2014 22:43

I was very sore for a couple of weeks, and quite weepy as I had gone in for a completely different operation! and had no idea about the grapefruit sized cyst! So a I came round from the anaesthetic to be told that they had removed my ovary, Fallopian tube and cyst, instead of having had a mesh sling fitted under my uterus!

After the first couple of weeks I was just achey and stiff, but I stayed off work for a total of 4 weeks as I work with young children, and needed to be completely well before I went back to work.

re. HRT. I feel less murderous towards people now, and my hot flushes (.without sweat) are definitely better. However, my periods became horrendously heavy for the first 3 months, although they are gradually getting better. I've been taking HRT for about 8 months now and think I need to go back to my GP as my periods have started getting variable in length again (.anything between 3 and 5 weeks).

TheOriginalNutcracker · 28/02/2014 20:31

That must have been such a shock littlefish. Not sure i'd cope very well with that either tbh.

I'm lucky enough to never have had very heavy periods so i;d not be happy if the hrt caused that but it is better than pain I suppose.

Littlefish · 28/02/2014 21:39

The first couple of heavy periods were a bit of a shock, because like you, I'd never had heavy periods before. However, as I said, they are getting lighter again and the improvement in my moods, sleeping and hot flushes is definitely worth the inconvenience of heavier periods.

Hi 70 did you get your blood test results back?

Best of luck for Thursday. Let us know how you get on.

I had MRI scan today. It was ok, the nurse was reassuring and I was so tired I nearly fell asleep! Results next Wednesday even I see consultant.

Just as a note, I did have to chase up my scan appointment as they didn't send letter. They good me it would be 3 weeks! I had to explain about the consultant expecting the results by next Monday. I had to make sure the results were sent to him and not my GP. As I overheard them talking about which GP I had!

Worth taking notice of what the admin staff are up to to keep things moving forward. At my hospital, anyway.

Hi Flying good to hear the MRI wasn't too bad (though probably bad enough)

What happen after Wednesday ? Is surgery the next step?

GP for blood test results tomorrow then scan on Thursady and I should know more. Yesterday was grim I had constant pain on my left side , worse when sitting. And yes, I sit down at work Sad
But at least my backache took a day off .
Onwards and Upwards eh?

Flyingducky · 05/03/2014 23:02

Did you get blood test results 70? Hope it goes well tomorrow.

I think I was told either watch and wait, or keyhole surgery. Depends on what it is so no idea until they tell me.

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/03/2014 19:27

Had blood test results - not menopausal but just under the measurements (so perimenopausal which I knew anyway)

Had scan today so have to wait for results.

Patient Patients here .

Flyingducky · 06/03/2014 23:04

This has been the longest month of my life! Did they say when you would get result?

OP posts:
Jingjangro · 07/03/2014 02:38

I had a 9x5 cm dermoid cyst a few years ago.

They remove them because they are made of skin/hair etc tissue and there's, you can get torsion and rupture, and there's a 1% change of malignancy.

I also had lots of odd bleeding. It turned out I had fibroids and endometriosis as well.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 10/03/2014 20:03

How's everyone on this thread doing ?
I've not been on much as been in pain. I had my first prostap injection last Thursday and am hopeful it will work but apparently a lot of people still get their next period Hmm

I'm having an MRI tomorrow

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/03/2014 21:29

Good Luck Original

Flyingducky · 12/03/2014 10:40

How did you get on at MRI TON?

70 have you had you results from scan yet?

I got my results from MRI today. Consultant said tumour markers are raised but not worryingly so. They will be removing my ovary. Surgery in the next 6 weeks..

Not sure how I'm feeling.

OP posts:
TheOriginalNutcracker · 12/03/2014 17:26

It went ok thanks ducky.

What tumour markers do they look for on an MRI ?

Flyingducky · 12/03/2014 20:22

I think the markers were from the ca-125 blood test.

When do you get MRI result?

My friend had her hysterectomy today. She had waited a good few months and, like you, had the induced menopause injections first. She said it all went fine.. She is sitting up already, chatting and feeling hungry!

OP posts:
TheOriginalNutcracker · 12/03/2014 22:09

Oh that sounds good ducky. How old is your friend ?
A hysterectomy hasn't yet been mentioned to me but I'm going to ask about it.

I don't know if or when I'll get the MRI results. My next appointment with the consultant isn't until July. I'm assuming that if there is anything on there that they weren't happy with they will bring that forward.

My next injection is 3rd April so if I've not heard before that I will ask the nurse.
