Malt - you don't have to take your temperature at all (as far as I know). I was just told if you feel unwell take it before you ring the unit as that is the first thing you will be asked.

Gigondas · 25/07/2013 19:47

Ooh what is wii u like topsy?

Result that house all out- is dh still on short weeks?

I was into omelette when on chemo. Oh and cheese...

It would be a bad wife who ate all the cake while dh puts bins out.

kitkat1967 · 25/07/2013 19:47

I'm def craving spicy food which is very unusual for me.

Malt - for me the taste changes etc. kicked in after about 10 days. The first cycle I lived on poached egg on toast until the taste changes happened!

Lilymaid · 25/07/2013 19:54

Malt - no need to take temperature unless you feel it may be raised. Just make sure you have a thermometer easily to hand just in case.

malteserzz · 25/07/2013 19:59

Is the wi u the one you can play as a handheld too ?
Boiled egg good idea, I have an egg n toast machine ! It's a toaster which also does boiled or poached eggs

I was told to take temp and if it's above 38 must call in even if feel fine so bit obsessed with it !

Cake good idea gigs I've had a mini magnum

Gigondas · 25/07/2013 20:17

Mr gig has just found this

topsyturner · 25/07/2013 20:52

Oh yeah , it's the old "blame it on Mr Gig" again is it Gigs ?
Grin

The wii u seems to be a hit .
I thought he might be too old for it , but he's enjoying it .
He doesn't play many shoot em up or driving games . He's mainly into mine craft etc .

And , yes , you would be a very bad wife if you ate all the cake Gigs
unless you send some my way as DS doesn't do birthday cake

topsyturner · 25/07/2013 20:53

A machine that makes toast AND eggs ?
What devilment is this Malt ? Grin

sandripples · 25/07/2013 21:05

Hello - just thought I'd pop in. I do send huge sympathy to anyone having chemo this hot summer and hope you're managing to have lots of ice cold treats. Malt - I had strict instructions to check my temperature evry day - it seemed a bit excessive and fortunately I never got ill (apart from having cancer and treatment - you know!) - I think taking temp if you feel a bit unwell is prob more sensible. How are you getting on?

I had a nice week-end at Borth - lovely sea swimming. It reminded me of treatment as I went there three times during chemo, as SIL has a house overlooking the sea which was a welcome break during treatment.

Have got DS at home for the summer which is great -

Sorry I haven't read up on posts - will do a quick skim now, but just sending best wishes to everyone. x

malteserzz · 25/07/2013 21:07

What was mr gigs searching to find that ??
Topsy don't think I said happy birthday to your ds, I also have a 14 year old but female sort, wonder if he throws his clothes, towels etc on the floor too ?
Egg n toast is genius, think I bought it on recommendation of mn. It's a toaster with bit at the side that cooks your eggs, no mess, no timing, no fuss !

BetsyBoop · 25/07/2013 21:07

malt I was told to take temp every day and/or if feeling unwell. If 38 or above phone immediately and expect that they will want you in within the hour. If 37.5-37.9 take again an hour later and if not back below 37.5 phone immediately. If below 36 phone immediately. They seem pretty temp obsessed at my unit.... (I do take it every morning, not been high or low yet)

sandripples · 25/07/2013 21:10

Malt - sorry just realised you've done your 1st chemo today - well done! I hope you continue to feel ok - you can only go with the flow as others have said, and see how you feel. Good that all went smoothly anyway. Fingers crossed for you.

malteserzz · 25/07/2013 21:10

Sandripples x post sounds like you had a lovely time especially swimming in the sea Smile
I'm ok thanks just but nervous not knowing what to expect you know.
Nice to hear from you keep in touch when you can x

sandripples · 25/07/2013 21:17

Yes swimming in the sea is just fantastic. Lovely to be able to enjoy it this year. I hope you've got some fresh pineapple ready to help your mouth stay healthy - I craved pineapple and meat whilst on chemo! The meat thing was funny - most in the family are veggie. I think it was my body craving protein to rebuild itself. Have they advised you to eat little and often? I remember preparing small meals of brown rice and fish- rather fanatically at first! But the pineapple cravings lasted for months.

kitkat1967 · 25/07/2013 21:23

goodness - just googled the 'Toast and Egg' machine - how cool is that Grin - just debating whether I need one (clearly yes as on chemo so can have whatever I want) and where I would store it when not in use as already have a toaster out on the side.

malteserzz · 25/07/2013 21:28

Betsy that's pretty much what I was told I questioned it as 1 leaflet said contact them if over 37.5 and the other said 38! Will try to just do once or twice a day if I feel ok
Kitkat get one it's great ! Think I gave my old toaster away
SR yes they said little and often and just go with your body and eat what you fancy

topsyturner · 25/07/2013 21:51

Malt my 14 year old does the floordrobe thing .
Not so sure about the towels as he presently has to be forced into the shower at the point of a gun ...

Off to google to egg and toast master piece !

BetsyBoop · 25/07/2013 22:11

ooh toast and egg machine is good, but just seen the toast and beans machine - will do eggs and soup too. I want one, but do I need one Grin

malteserzz · 25/07/2013 22:45

Lol at floordrobe !
Course you need one Betsy !
I'm off to bed knackered after stressful day but to be fair wasn't as bad as I'd built it up to be in my head
Night all x

trice · 25/07/2013 23:43

Congrats on getting through round one Malt.

I have been pond dipping with dd today. We fished out a cute little newt. She has a new wildlife book where you tick off your sightings. She stayed up sitting in her tent to watch for the bats so she could tick them off the list. Summer holiday fun.

Gigondas · 26/07/2013 08:14

That sounds lovely trice .

How you doing malt ?

In need of Brew as mini gig was up in night. Got kids god mum and her ds over so think kids can run wild in the garden.

malteserzz · 26/07/2013 08:39

You do lovely things with your kids trice, looking forward to mine coming back this afternoon
I'm fine thanks gigs no symptoms yet touch wood
Took steroids at 6 so next ones about 12 or earlier do you think?
Hope you can wear the kids out in the garden

Gigondas · 26/07/2013 08:40

I wouldn't do later than 12 as might get the caffeine effect .

notJenkins · 26/07/2013 08:43

How are you feeling today malt ?

Just a quickie from me as I am off camping again today with a friend and various children to Wookey. Hope the rain holds off.

My GP appointment was not great. My GP is lovely but she confirmed that my scar has gone keloid and is unlikely to fade now so I am stuck with it. I am not hugely bothered but it means I have a very visible reminder and people keep on looking at it. I see their eyes going back and forward to my throat and it reminds me all the time it is there. Roll on cold weather and scarves ! If I want it sorting it would be plastic surgery and no guarantee that it would get better and I would have to pay so unless I win the lottery it is out of the question.
She thinks my periods will settle down over time but I have to put up with it basically. Ho hum.

What are you all up to this weekend ?

Gigondas · 26/07/2013 08:45

My mum used acupuncture to settle her scar Nj - it was very effective as it was raw ( same sort of area) . Sorry Gp not more helpful but camping sounds fun .
