kitkat Dr Geek, my consultant, does think the medical profession has been a little conservative in terms of understanding the importance of hormone therapies, and clinging to chemo. They are doing trials and finding it can be more effective than chemo for some highly positive tumours like mine was. However chemo generally but not always stops your periods anyway. I would certainly have the conversation, especially if there was a notable response in the tumour during your cycle. I was certainly keen to close my hormone factory down if chemo didn't do it as I had a history of problems associated with high levels of hormones.

Copthallresident · 04/07/2013 16:29

Topsy cross posted, sorry about DHs uncle, can DH not ask discreetly. I find it difficult to believe his widow would find your remission painful, more a case of glad it hasn't got you as well, but then there's nowt so queer as folk. (iPad really didn't want to type that, bloody southerner)

It is sad when someone dies, whilst trying to screen out the brave fighting crap I saw she was 52, younger than me. [Sad] It's not fair. I saw her at the screening of a celebrity weakest link and she was the celeb that actually turned and chatted to the audience between takes, she did seem genuinely nice.

malteserzz · 04/07/2013 16:34

Topsy sorry about dhs uncle, don't know what to say about the funeral if you don't go will she be upset what does dh think ?

I was told to have my mirena removed as a precaution even before I had all the details about my cancer, gutted I loved my coil, not done the deed since as I wouldn't trust condoms :( dh meant to be going to the gp about having the snip but seems to be procrastinating !
I could have a copper coil but not sure I can be doing with the hassle

malteserzz · 04/07/2013 16:40

Very sad about bernie Nolan, haven't 2 of her sisters had BC too ?
52 is no age though still 11 years away for me

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/07/2013 16:53

oh topsy I am sorry about dh's uncle -I think perhaps dh might just sound out your aunt about any awkwardness..a big hug for you.
Very sad about Bernie Nolan - there's a thread which is going on about 'fighting' and I very nearly had a grumble about fightiong talk but decided against.

kitkat1967 · 04/07/2013 17:18

right - rang BCN and she said to check with onc next time I see him but she does not think it will need to come out as I am ER+ and it produces progesteron.
Anyway - no panic just ask next time I am in. I am pleased as I love it and do not want to have chemo and periods Angry although I guess my ovaries will pack in soon enough anyway!!

kitkat1967 · 04/07/2013 17:21

Cop my onc says hormone treatment is the thing for me too - he said we'll do chemo but it is not so important as the hormone treatment

jchocchip · 04/07/2013 17:37

Sorry to hear about dh's uncle topsy (()) Did you like him? Would you go other than the awkwardness with auntie? Personally I would go and have a good cry and give her a hug but do what you and your dh feel comfortable with.
I keep meaning to go get a copper coil. Had one before with no probs.
Waves and peers at trolley over new glasses Grin

trice · 04/07/2013 17:39

Dd did her summer play today. She had to do two parts as one of the kids went home sick at the last minute. She was awesome. Ds brought his report home and it was gold stars all the way. (Apart from games as he can't catch a ball for toffee) . I have two amazing children!

Feel like plop though after a sleepless night and head cold.

Sorry to hear about your relative Topsy.

jchocchip · 04/07/2013 17:39

Meant to say didn't have any insurance :( but was lucky work pay full pay for up to 6 months... so IT was ok.

jchocchip · 04/07/2013 17:42

Xpost hurray for minitrice gold stars :) sleepy vibes for better night tonight and kicking cold into touch

malteserzz · 04/07/2013 18:12

Well done to the mini trices !
I'm sitting in my car roof down sunbathing waiting to pick ds up he's been on a school trip to a theme park today bet he ll be shattered tonight !

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 04/07/2013 18:28

Yay for mini trices what a pair of stars :)

malt that sounds blissful, I hope DS enjoyed the theme park

topsy I'm really sorry about DH's uncle, I remember the aunt being a bit off with you before, agree with others about DH perhaps sounding thins out, but otherwise if I were you I'd probably go, at least to support DH :)

I've slept nearly all day, not sure if that's the chemo or anaemia, probably both :)

I had my Mirena out to have my eggs harvested and will really miss it, it was so owchy having it put in though I don't think I will have another for a while, especially as may take six months for periods to return, I haven't had one since before chemo, bit of a silver lining there :)

Chocolate hobnobs for the trolley :)

smee · 04/07/2013 18:43

Topsy, can we lure you out by saying it's okay to feel shit? Isn't that why we're all here as this is non RL place we can be honest about all that. Very sad about your relative. What does DH think about your going? Would you almost find it harder/ weirder if you don't?

Kitkat, I've never had a mirena, but I know my Onc said hormone shutdown was a priority for me because my tumour was high end positive. My periods disappeared on chemo 1 and have never returned. Definitely worth an ask of Onc next time.

Yay for mini Trices. How lovely. Smile

Ruby, hope you perk up soon. Bound to be wiped out. Your body needs summer sun and treats. x Smile

I've just has a friend of DS's here and his mum spent half an hour when she came to pick him up, telling me how upset she was about Bernie Nolan and how scared it made her feel about cancer. She knows all about me having BC. Weird... though obviously v.sad about Bernie Nolan. She was diagnosed about the same time as me. Sad

kitkat1967 · 04/07/2013 19:20

Tunnocks Teacakes for the trolley (delicious) and best of all I'm the only person in this house who likes them!!

Insurance form completed and I returned it by Special Delivery as I had to include my original birth certificate and marriage certificate Hmm

Gigondas · 04/07/2013 19:37

Well done kitkat.

Sleep away ruby as you obviously need it and you will pick up soon. Keep telling myself that too.

Topsy- so sorry about dh uncle. I agree about dh sounding his aunt out first.

Very sad about Bernie Nolan - I have avoided threads on it mas and stuck to the ones about wedding lunacy it people who don't have toilet brushes (just why do you post these things).

Copt- new Reuben's sounds great. Gives me an incentive to get better.

jchocchip · 04/07/2013 19:41

Mmmm tunnocks tea cakes :). Dd gone to play in end of year concert but she has let us off attending. I tried to bribe her by saying I would pay her for the wrong notes. Id rather she played and made mistakes rather than mime. Of course I would rather she was given the music to practice beforehand rather than sight reading on the night Hmm

jchocchip · 04/07/2013 19:43

Xpost gigs I saw the one about loo brushes! Rather silly, if you ask me.

trice · 04/07/2013 19:45

I have the first of the raspberries and strawberries to throw on the trolly. dd eats most of them as she picks, but they taste best fresh, warmed by the sun.

I had a massive crop of cherries but the birds have had them. Need to remember to net next year.

I am envious of people with insurance. I didn't even get sick pay as I was on a zero hour contract. But I have all the luck in having wonderful family and friends!

malteserzz · 04/07/2013 19:50

I read the loo brush thread too !
Things like that good for distraction I find
I've hidden all the bernie Nolan posts on FB
Trice fresh strawberries and raspberries sound delicious
Ds had a great day he's not as tired as I thought he's in the garden playing football
Lovely and sunny here now Smile

kitkat1967 · 04/07/2013 20:11

I went a bit fruit mad today - as well as strawberries (for DS), pears (for DD) and cherries (for me) I bought a pineapple Shock
I was exactly like this post pregnancy (after 8 months of plain biscuits) so I reckon this must be the same post-chemo reaction.

I'm also avoid any BN threads - I'm way too new to things to want to dwell.

It's my kids last day at school tomorrow - can't wait as DD in particular has totally run out of steam - no more early mornings for 8.5 weeks Grin

Ruby - even if you have slept all day that was your last time - on the up now Smile

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 04/07/2013 20:36

Moving on up! so are you gigs I hope you'll feel much better soon, especially now you've hopefully shaken off the pump

Had our first raspberry this evening, well first the birds hadn't got to, and I've been gobbling up the occasional strawberry the past few days. They are so gorgeous warm fom sun trice I've also found I prefer them slightly under ripe, less sweet and less likely to have been nabbed by birds! Grin

Had my head in the bucket for a while but finally calmed down, thankfully as I've taken all my anti sickness, in a way it'd be better to just throw up then feel better! But now chilling in bed listening to calming folk music :)

smee friend sounds incredly insensitive! Although I found cancer a lot scarier before I'd had it, now it's just a pain in the arse, quite literally Grin

Very sad about Bernie Nolan but the whole losing her battle stuff is a bit off putting! :( she was just unlucky, she didn't lose or "give up" or anything.

Hugs to all of you who need them, though you might want to make them quick so I don't sick on you Grin xx

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 04/07/2013 20:37

Forgot to say thank you kitkat and also yay for summer hols! Grin

smee · 04/07/2013 21:13

Ruby, what's your pattern?? Do you think that's the last of the sickness? Poor you. Sad

Gig's are you sore from rads or just knackered. Am imagining both. Any treats on the horizon?? x

kitkat, still two and a half weeks left of school here. We had strawberries, cherries and pineapple today too. Smile

DS's friend's mum has just e-mailed asking if she might get an intro to one of our neighbours as she fancies him. The phrase 'it's all about me' springs to mind.' Hmm

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 04/07/2013 21:29

smee it usually doesn't one on until later, 2-3 days early next week, but maybe I'm getting it out of the way early :)

Grin and Shock at DS's friend's mum! She sounds a bit self absorbed...
