Hey malt, good to see you :) One down, five to go :) Go easy today and just "go with the flow" as they say.

I'm not doing as cold cap, but that sounds a bit duff :(.

Sounds like they have started you on level 1 anti-emetics, which hopefully will be fine, but if you are ill in any way ring the helpline and they will advise you what to do - often just getting a script from your GP for something extra.

Well I'm starting to feel much better today (definitely helped by cooler temp) and a lot less nauseous- Hurrah! Just got back from a trip to the park with the kids so maybe needing a nanna nap this afternoon Grin

BetsyBoop · 25/07/2013 11:48

ruby x-post - so glad to hear you are feeling better :)

Lilymaid · 25/07/2013 12:03

Malt - don't sit down waiting to feel ill - it may not happen! You will feel below par, so save your sitting for those days (there's only so much day time TV an addled brain can take). I hope the cold cap works for you.
One good thing about a wig is that it does what you want it to - my natural hair curls the wrong way all the time and I don't have the patience/time/interest to get it to look perfect. A wig can be the style you've always wanted but couldn't be a....d to achieve!

malteserzz · 25/07/2013 12:14

Betsy and ruby glad you're both feeling ok
Lily I know you're right I'm sitting here thinking do I feel sick or anything ?
Have booked a wig appointment at the hospital for next week but if it does fall out there is a salon in town where im sure they would be nicer but more expensive so not sure whether to just go there or wait and see if it does fall out
Luckily no drugs fell on dhs head ! Got the same time in 3 weeks too

Lilymaid · 25/07/2013 12:24

Malt - I went to a fairly pricey salon in my town, but the person who did the hair loss service had been doing it for years (and his wife had BC fairly recently so he knew all about it from the personal level too). I went with a friend as DH would not have been very helpful at all. It worked out as costing my entire hairdressing costs for one year, but the whole process wasn't traumatic and the wig is a nice style and not a monocolour/shiney or otherwise non-natural looking.
I think you are probably on FEC at the moment, whereas I've started with the T and will then move on to FEC, so hair loss experience may be different.

kitkat1967 · 25/07/2013 12:24

well done Malt. Even if your hair does fall out it will not happen until around about the start of your next cycle so don't panic you have plenty of time. Hopefully your cold cap is different to mind and your half an hour afterwards will do the trick. Good to be home nice and early Smile.

malteserzz · 25/07/2013 12:33

Lily yes I'm on fec and I agree about taking a friend rather than dh
Kitkat was your cold cap plugged in ? Mine wasn't had just been in the freezer they changed it 3 times can't help feeling it was a bit naff but then it must work for some people as otherwise surely they wouldn't bother at all, will have to wait and see

kitkat1967 · 25/07/2013 13:07

yep - mine was plugged but I did have the option of the freezer pack version if I wanted it at home. My nurse said the results were similar with both options.

graciesmall09 · 25/07/2013 14:06

malt glad first lot went well. I didn't have the option of the cold cap as I had my treatment at home but I went to the local Macmillan centre for my wig. I was really pleased with it. Very like my own style and colour but had a few highlights in it. They cut it to suit. I had to pay for it as I was private but I think NHS get a voucher. I quite miss my wig now as my hair has grown back extremely curly which I'm finding hard to manage. DH came with me for my fitting and we had a laugh trying on some totally awful styles Hmm. There's one ticked off. Fingers crossed you will feel fine.

Hugs to little old lady dog kurri.

Waves madly back at topsy. Love that idea for puppy pops. Will try it later. We really must get coffee organised when the kids are back at school.

Tesco delivery here - back later xx

smee · 25/07/2013 15:15

Nipping in to cheer on Malt. Great that you're home.Smile I read up on cold cap when I was using it and manufacturers at that point said you could take it off half an hour after treatment, so your unit might well be right. Will see if I can find out when am home.

Waving to all - out and about for various work meetings. Back later..

malteserzz · 25/07/2013 15:45

It's a Macmillan centre at the hospital where I booked my wig fitting they said they are £65 or something like that.
Bit cross with myself as when they said no conditioner and only half an hour maybe I should have insisted but difficult when you're stressed and scared I suppose you believe what they tell you. Anyway what will be will be I know there's no guarantee of it keeping your hair anyway

Just been chilling since I got home, feel tired just fell asleep then the door banged in the wind and woke me up ! Tearful too is that the drugs or just the emotion of it all ?

Red wee was interesting glad I knew about that !

Hope everyone's having a good day, sunny here. Kids are having nice day with grandparents at Warwick castle Smile

Gigondas · 25/07/2013 15:51

Yay malt for one down. Glad you feel ok- as others say, you may not get sick. I felt bit off but never hugely sick(been way worse lately).

Also think friend better for wig shopping- I took my sis. And no surer way not to lose hair than buy a wig. My wigs and scarves pics on tamoxifen group about this time last year if you want a look. Also can see gi Jane look on christening pics in December.

Physio guy lovely so got gently does it plan for shoulder. Dietician good and my leg really starting to heal up so end is hopefully nigh on wound Smile.

Oh no- they have just advertised Katherine jenkins collection on radio. I feel all Incredible Hulk with steroid rage AngryHmmWink. This is old joke as named my tumours after people I don't like (myleene klass for pain in bum, Katherine Jenkins for pain in neck and Harry from one direction for little niggle in hip).

Smee you sound very busy again .amber hope today goes ok as sounds like big stress meeting.

topsyturner · 25/07/2013 15:53

Yippee for Malt !
First one done .
Did you get the Fanjo Tingle ? Grin

Wigs , over here , on nhs , are free .
If you want more than one , you have to pay though .
Mine was quite good , I just couldn't wear it as I got too hot !

Gracie deffo have to arrange coffee time .
Blardy kids , interfering with our social lives ... Grin

DS is 14 today !
When the bloody buggering did that happen ?
Where have the years gone ???
Sigh ...

topsyturner · 25/07/2013 15:55

X post Gigs
KJ ???
Don't tell me she's released another bloody album ???

Gigondas · 25/07/2013 15:57

You were a child bride tho topsy so that explains why you have 14 year old so young. Did he change his mind bout birthdays being uncool?

Have nice choclit cake for trolley. There is not much chance the little gigs won't share is there? They are no respecters of their mother or her steroid need (mini gig walked over and whacked me as I mentioned the word nap yesterday. I suppose I wAs lucky she didn't bite-I can usually avoid this as she walks towards you with her mouth open. It doesn't bode well for terrible twos does it?).

Gigondas · 25/07/2013 15:59

Yes AngryAngryAngry probably needs it to pay for Swishy hair and slightly too tight dress.

Fucking hell it's myleene klass advertising her book choice. Since when did she become a literary critic? AngryAngry

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 25/07/2013 16:01

My unit didn't have any plugged in cold caps just the ones you have to swap over when they warm up, so hopefully they're just as effective as the plugged in ones, definitely worked for some people :)

malt could be a bit of both. My steroids made me a bit grumpy and really crave grapes... You've been pumped full of all sorts so it's bound to have an effect on moods as well as the physical effects! Agree with others, try not to sit waiting for side effects or wondering if you're having them as more likely to if you're thinking about them. Try to distract yourself with telly or magazines etc, if you get the side effects you'll know about it!! :)

smee hope your meetings go well :)

betsy glad you're feeling better today :)

Waves to lily, gracie, kitkat and everyone else, I hope you're having a good day

malteserzz · 25/07/2013 16:10

Topsy no fanjo tingle as steroids were tablets!
Ruby thank you and you're right I dm just sitting here waiting I know it's daft !
Gigs also hate Kj and myleene but not as much as Kate who still looks like Kate from the advert with her swishy hair, I tell her to f off every time it comes on

malteserzz · 25/07/2013 18:48

Have I killed the thread ?
Come out come out where ever you are !

kitkat1967 · 25/07/2013 18:58

Malt - if you're still OK now then I think the meds you have must be working for you. Just keep taking everything as per the schedule even if you don't think you need them and you will be fine.

Lilymaid · 25/07/2013 18:58

I'm here! Sitting on the sofa contemplating dinner (pasta). Thinking to myself that I'd love to eat a hot dog or a curry tonight, though everything tends to taste a bit odd at the moment.

malteserzz · 25/07/2013 19:03

Will do Kitkat, no tablets scheduled till tomorrow but I've got some I can take if I feel nauseous tonight
Lily I've just had scrambled egg on toast taste changes must be weird
Last question how often do you have to take your temp ? Dh says he's sure it's not as often as I am doing lol

Gigondas · 25/07/2013 19:05

No I am still here tho tired. Waiting on dh to cook my dinner .

It's good you are feeling ok. And if you feel like a cry have one malt.

Kitkat - curry might be ok if strong tasting?

Lilymaid · 25/07/2013 19:18

Malt - scrambled egg is my favourite especially at the moment. Boiled egg also good so there's always an easy snack meal even I can cook up at present.

topsyturner · 25/07/2013 19:43

I'm here too .
Just opened the wine .

I craved spicey food on chemo .
Wanted curry or Mexican constantly !

DS and I went out this afternoon and spent his birthday money (and savings) on a wii u .
Haven't seen him since ! GrinGrinGrin

DD was taken out on a play date at 1pm , haven't seen her since either Grin

DH still at work till after 8 .
Hence I have the wine open !
