fab gold medals ! am surprised at how into it all we've got chez MAS -I think it's synchronized swimming today which I find bizarre yet compelling !
It's also my dad's concert band's concert this afternoon on the band stand in the park, rain permitting. He wants us to bring mum too,if it's not too cold/wet for her.
I still haven't caught up with our new members -so sorry- can anyone give a quick update for me ?

overthemill · 05/08/2012 09:28

Hi all, spent yesterday doing some very nice things so didn't spend time on laptop. Went to see legally blonde teh musical at local theatre which was good fun - not my usual thing but it was a laugh and brightened my day. Spent time with 13 yo and she has admitted great fear so we talked and talked so i think she will open up to me again. today we plan to make cakes and freeze lots so we always have little treats.
not watched much olympics last few days but it has made me happy knowing we are doing well - its such a big deal isn't it? and i intend to take pleasure in anything now!

Sometimesiwonder · 05/08/2012 15:48

Glad the dressings arrived safely, Ned - hope they help x

Smee - congratulations on a most excellent cervix Smile

MAS - yuk to return to a letter like that. Hope you can see the GP tomorrow and get your mind put at rest. I, too, am sure it will prove to be fine.

DD's theatre performance was really excellent - she was interviewed for the theatre website and the local paper took a photo so she is very pleased with herself Smile

Am working, so will just send love to all -sleep well and I'll see you tomorrow x

welcome home gig !
Have been to listen to dad's band play in the park- was lovely- mum stayed at home as she doesn't 'want to be a burden' though I think she is hooked on the sailing...

Gigondas · 05/08/2012 16:10

Can't blame her -
Loads of Olympic action Grin

Hope the weather held off for the band performance in the park, MAS - sounds lovely.

Welcome home, Gig!

smee · 05/08/2012 17:29

Yay, for Gig being home !! Smile

Overthemill, hope you had a nice time baking. Sounds like a good thing to do with your DD.

Sometimes, is your DD heading to stage school then?? Fab that she had fun. Smile

MAS, hope the rain stays away for you'd dad.

No time for more now, though Sweetness, am glad the mists have lifted a bit. We watched the Triathlon on the tv. Looked amazing. Smile

Sometimesiwonder · 05/08/2012 17:46

Ha ha Smee, it's possible! She wants to be an astronomer when she's a grown up but, for now, she wants to do some performance stuff. According to her. So we think this is a good idea for confidence and all sorts of useful skills so our only problem now is finding something she can fit into her already pretty full schedule Hmm

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/08/2012 17:53

good for dd sometimes ! I think performing does help build confidence - am sure it's helped T anyway.
Have you got lots of home coming treats gig ?
overthemill what did you bake ?? am starving !
Rain held off,in fact it was really warm and sunny and the band played very well, so dad pleased.

Baskets45 · 05/08/2012 18:05

Congrats to Smee on her excellent cervix!!

I hope, Mas, your doc reassures re the chest xray. So many mundane things it could be.

And really good to see Gig back home where she belongs. Hope the little people are pleased too. Sure they are!

A HUGE welcome to the other side of the hill to Sometimes! And it's grand to see how much your young thespian has enjoyed her week. My boys do drama and have had a lot from it. In fact eldest is now trying to make it a professional 'thing'. Just not great timing, when arts budgets in this land are screwed. Ho hum.

Best wishes to the newcomers. Overthemill, I think it is very hard for teenagers when their mum/dad is sick. They understand so much more of what is going on, often more than we tell them or expect, yet often don't know how to talk about it, and will rarely have any peers who have experienced similar to talk to/find some common ground with. it's good your dd and you have had a chat. She will also get support, if necessary, through school/youth services. And Macmillan of course.

I am so buoyed up by Andy M's gold medal. He is a local-ish boy and he dun good!

Nosy qu for kurri - if your mum grew up in Glasgow, then what is her accent like? Is she Scotland or Dorset, or a mix of both?! I need to know ....

Best wishes to all of you.

amberlight · 05/08/2012 20:00

Hi everyone...still reading...hugs all round...

smee · 05/08/2012 20:25

How are you Amber?? Do I need duct tape?

MAS, glad your dad's band played well. Must be lovely to watch him play.

Sometimes, I'd bet your DD will get lots out of performing, as well as a huge social life. for which you will have to ferry her round you fool

Did I mention I have a picture of my perfect cervix? According to the doctor I am the first person who's ever asked for a copy he clearly thought I was insane Am not at all sure what to do with it. Suggestions welcome. Grin

smee · 05/08/2012 20:26

Gracie, how are you today?? You've been quiet. Hope it's not because you're feeling low.

topsyturner · 05/08/2012 20:46

I think you should have your perfect cervix picture Andy Warhol-d !
Like the Marilyn series !

Then hang it in pride of place above your fire and invite visitors to guess what it is Grin

smee · 05/08/2012 21:21

A friend who's an artist wants to do a pic based on it, Topsy. Though I do like the idea of asking for guesses.. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/08/2012 22:21

I could illustrate it in my style possibly !
(can we see you picture btw ?)

smee · 05/08/2012 23:04

If we had a scanner, I'd proudly show, but we don't. haven't you all had a lucky escape MAS, you'd make it extraordinary I know.

Big excitement in Smee-land, as we're off to see the Athletics tomorrow morning. The only tickets we got and it's the cheapest seats, so doubtless we'll be on the back row, but I'll wave to you all! Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/08/2012 07:29

pity, a jolly cartoony cervix would be a challenge..
Have fun at the athletics !

Gigondas · 06/08/2012 07:40

Grin I will be trying to spot smee from
My sofa.
Feeling ok but planning quiet day at home. Being very well looked after by my lovely sister Smile

Good morning all. Yesterday slightly surreal with dd sending me to bed but cake was very beautiful. Chocolatesponge with lemon icing. Her choice!
What do u all do during chemo? Literally, during the 4 hours it's dripping in?
Can't quite imagine it yet.

Gigondas · 06/08/2012 08:47

Watch tv, doze, read books /mags, eat or drink ( if ok with it).. I sort of forget its going in after my initial mantra where I tell it to go deal with the cancer Grin

OP posts:
Sometimesiwonder · 06/08/2012 09:35

overthemill - the first will be the worst because of the anticipation. You can't move about, so just try to relax. x

Mind boggled by all the offers to use youe cervix to create art, Smee Shock

Annoying phone call of the day no 1 -

Caller: Can I speak to Mr Sometimes please?

Me: He's not here, can I help?

Caller: Well, when will he be in

Me: Not at all today, I'm afraid, you could try tomorrow

Caller (cross): Well I called on friday and someone told me to call today !!!!!!

(Oh dear, she thinks this is a large business)

Me: Well, I spoke to someone on Friday and told them that he would definitely NOT be here on Monday and to call on Tuesday.

Caller: Oh, OK, I'll try tomorrow.

Turns out the moody bat is only after him for money - and not money we owe, a charitable donation. I fear she may need retraining Hmm

overthemill · 06/08/2012 09:45

smee cervix as art is very creative - definitely go for it!

thanks for tips! dh will be with me so we will try crosswords and i will have trashy mags too. maybe my tapestry?

Sometimesiwonder · 06/08/2012 09:50

anything sedentary that you want to do will be absolutely the way to go. Have plenty of drinks with you too, chemo makes you monstrously thirsty IME and they'll be able to stop it so you can go to the loo.
