waah ! it wasn't on the iPlayer, maybe try again tonight...

overthemill · 25/08/2012 09:20

iplayer takes 24 hours i think, i forgot too and went to bed at 9. a treat for later though julian barnes in guardian has put me off a bit

amber i did pregnancy very badly! was in hospital for ages with dd 13 (and the other 2 aren't really mine, i just claim them, they are dsc) and lost 2 babies so that fills me with despair! I dont get travel sick though. never mind i think i just have to give in to feeling rubbish and veg out. wig fitting was ok but not huge nhs choice. got style close-ish to normal me . sister quite envious! she'd like new hair :)

topsyturner · 25/08/2012 11:33

Morning All

Today's tasks include picking up a prescription and throwing a blanket over his head and bundling him into the car kicking and screaming taking DS for his pre going back to school shearing hair cut .

My life is soooo Rock and Roll right now !
Can anyone trump my extremely domestic plans for the day ?

topsyturner · 25/08/2012 11:36

OTM I got an NHS wig , it wasn't bad looks wise .
I just never wore it !
I used to get too damn hot !

If you feel sick on chemo , phone your chemo clinic . There are so many different things they can give you .
Don't feel like "well it's chemo , I should feel sick"
My oncologist said if I was sick whilst having chemo , then she wasn't doing her job properly !

overthemill · 25/08/2012 12:27

topsy i called last time and got ondantestron and that was much better but today i just feel so awful, very tired, emotional, weepy, sore tingly tongue (WTF??) and kind of a bit like indigestiony maybe. sore throat too - but no temp.

feeling very sorry for myself. every time i move i feel like i'll throw up. not handling it well, poor dh is trying so hard but nothing makes me feel better. am just watching brothers and sisters online. 10 more sessions to go, how on earth will i get through it? Sad

topsyturner · 25/08/2012 12:52

Are you on steroids OTM ?
They made me feel like you have just described .
Can't get comfy . When you lie down you feel like you should be standing up .
Generally really twitchy .

topsyturner · 25/08/2012 12:53

Tingly mouth could be the start of ulcers .
Make sure you use mouthwash .

overthemill · 25/08/2012 12:57

i dont think i'm on steroids - had 4 little tabs on day of chemo but none since. did mouthwash with bicarb - googled it

topsyturner · 25/08/2012 13:56

Yep the little tabs are steroids .
But you only had the once ? Shouldn't be those then giving you the heebie jeebies .
I would deffo phone your chemo unit and tell them you are feeling crappy .

overthemill · 25/08/2012 14:26

but doesn't everyone feel crappy on chemo: i have lymphoma so my body already on very low reserves and chemo just piling it on?

graciesmall09 · 25/08/2012 14:49

overthemill Sorry you are feeling so awful. Not everyone feels awful on chemo. I think amber managed to work throughout. But don't forget you are not getting that extra week to recover because you are having chemo every 2 weeks rather than 3 so you are bound to feel rotten. Don't put up with it though. Would you consider asking for a syringe driver? I honestly couldn't have done anymore than 2 chemo without it. I always take a sore throat (but no temp) and all my glands in my chest and neck swell and are painful. Hugs to you.

I am feeling a little better today so have 2 out of 3 kids school bags packed and named, uniforms named and old clothes dumped/charity bagged and 3 loads of ironing done so feel a rest is now well deserved. We did the boys' haircuts yesterday so all set for school back on Tuesday. I will be delighted to get back into some sort of routine.

Hope everyone having a good day.

Gigondas · 25/08/2012 16:08

Waves at overthemill from hospital. To add to all the good advice here , please ask and dont suffer (I had worst nausea yet this morning but was fine after they gave me some extra drugs). Also on indigestion that could be steroids and chemo irritating your tubing as I have had issues (and I never get indigestion) so mention it as I have a protective tablet that has worked a treat.

I also think steroids take a time to work through your system as i have tabs on chemo days plus next 3 and I would say it can be a few more days for me to lose the vietnam veteran feeling. My cousin who is also on chemo never really loses it so some people can be quite sensitive.

The fact it's lymphoma and shorter cycle is Relevant but you should not be suffering this much.

Am totally washed out today so will pop back when have more energy. I think it's cos I am exhausted by gracie and topsy living the dream with their school preparations.

Also I quite liked the benedict thing even if I do think he looks odd Grin

OP posts:
graciesmall09 · 25/08/2012 17:30

I hate to say this but I find benedict always look odd. Not my type at all. Feel free gigs to pop over and finish the rest of the school preparations. It is tedious fun.

overthemill · 25/08/2012 17:32

thanks gracie and gigs- i'm definitely struggling! Just adding into sore tingly mouth has been rotten, it hurts and is impossible to ignore - made eating even soup challenging. But had stiff talk first round from duty onc who said that chemo should never make you feel ill, you are an outpatient s behave like one, get up, get dressed and do exercise. This time 2 weeks ago I was able to do all that but not now. So i kind of feel like i'm failing the system Sad - i'm not even very good at being a cancer patient....

and the hospital is more than an hour away as I have o be seen at the regional specialist centre - much rather be at the local hospital with its lovely friendly macmillan ward. My chemo ward is a day unit, will anyone be there?

Gigondas · 25/08/2012 17:45

Just asked my lovely nurse what to do. She says (as we do) you shouldn't suffer- ring the 24 hour number you should have been given for help. sooner you can get drugs (ESP for the indigestion and sore throat) the better. Also sonner you have a chance of eating and drinking as that does your head in too.

If you get fobbed off, then a and e was her suggestion . But you are not being a rubbish cancer patient- you are just suffering from poor support as we all need a different mix of meds to support thru chemo.

OP posts:
Gigondas · 25/08/2012 17:45

And duty onc can do one - sounds a titHmm

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 25/08/2012 17:58

poor OTM Sad
Have been working, dh is making beef rendang for supper and am about to go out in the rain to feed parental cats and inject dear Smog.

graciesmall09 · 25/08/2012 18:22

I agree with gigs definitely don't suffer in silence. As for your mouth I bought Difflam over the counter which is wonderful (you could get it on prescription but if you want it quickly). Your duty onc sounds like a knob helpful chap. I really hope you feel better soon but please phone your emergency number.

mas sounds silly but I am so excited about DH's birthday picture. The kids love it - it is going to be a present from them so thank you again.

overthemill · 25/08/2012 18:50

phoned 24 hour number. no answer!

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/08/2012 18:59

Sad OTM - and grrr
gracie am so happy that you like it ! xx

topsyturner · 25/08/2012 19:45

Is there an ansa phone OTM ?
My unit operates by you leaving a message on the ansa phone and they call you back . (I've always been called back within 15 mins)

topsyturner · 25/08/2012 19:47

Have just discovered that pig/dog has a deep loathing of bicycles .
DH just took his out of the shed and rode it up and down the driveway .
Cue pig/dog doing his killer bark and trying to drag DH of the bicycle by his foot Grin

Gigondas · 25/08/2012 19:53

GrinGrin at pig dog and probably look on dh face.

Yes ring the unit.

Doing ok but not very hungry

topsyturner · 25/08/2012 20:14

Not surprising with the crap they serve up in hospitals Gig .
Get Mas to pop up with some of her beef redang , it sounds luffly !

Gigondas · 25/08/2012 20:16

I have some food from home but even that might be bit much at minute .

Looks like x factor for me if no other better suggestions.
