Drugs. Which have you tried?

Everyone's talking about drugs this morning.

These days I'm a regular user of caffeine and alcohol.

I used to be T Total and caffeine-free in the nineties but I did enjoy cannabis regularly and ecstasy and acid less regularly.

I can't imagine taking those these days (with the possible exception of the odd spliff Wink, because I'm too busy with the kids and can't afford to step out of the real world these days.
I also wonder how I'll feel if and when my kids decide to experiment.

How about you?

It really did nothing for me ladyT. It just stopped me from being able to dance anymore.

I have to say I've been absolutely amazed by this thread. I always thought I was a bit of a lush in the 90s with my experiments in alchemy Wink but I didn't realise just how many others were at it. I wonder if all those mums in the playground share a chemical past with me too. I guess I'll have to keep wondering because there's no way I'm bringing the subject up and if I don't, they probably won't either.

Thanks Goodness for MN.

I was already home(well a mate house....not my home) from a nightout when I did it.
Just sat on the sofa....perfect reallyWink

One of the wierdest drug experineces in my clubbing days though. Cool but weird.

ruty · 01/03/2006 18:29

i wonder what effect it will have on our children spidermama, if any? i mean my father bangs on about legalizing cannabis, he thinks himself a great liberal, but he's never tried it in his life, and my mum's idea of risk taking was a dubonnet and bitter lemon. our children on the other hand have parents many of whom have have dabbled a bit, many of whom have done more. Maybe it will make them ultra conservative? Not cool if your parents have done it! Grin

Ooh yes I forgot having morphine in the hospital after I had to have my stitches redone when ds was a few weeks old. I don't think I would have agreed if I had known what it was, but it was bloddy lovely :o

harpsichordcarrier · 01/03/2006 18:31

if anyone can get me some gas and air that would be great
seriously

Frenchgirl · 01/03/2006 18:35

harpsi you probably take some of the stuff weight lifters use to increase performance, don't you? Wink
what with all the heavy lifting you must do

spidermama · 01/03/2006 18:35

Humans and mind altering substances go way back in time for ever and ever though. I believe they are there for a reason and most which have been synthesised occur in plants anyway.

It's interesting to note which drugs have been popular throughout time and try to work out why.

I'd love to be one of these weird stuffy looking middle-class, middle-aged academics who go around taking mind altering drugs all over the world and recording their effects. Drug writers.

harpsichordcarrier · 01/03/2006 18:38

I think G&A should be piped, on prescription, into the kitchens of all new parents
so when things got rough we could just go and have a quick puff
"mummy can we play Barbie tea party again?"
"hold on darling"

"just coming!"

ruty · 01/03/2006 18:43

pmsl HC!

spidermama · 01/03/2006 18:43

Well I certainly ain't interesting compared to some of you! Wink

I am a wimp. An allergic wimp. I used to worry that some of the dodgey chemicals in drugs would give me a reaction. I also knew I wanted to be a nurse and had the maturity to weigh up my chances of doing tha t if caught to not even bothering to try and not to have to worry.

I smoked from about 14/15 till I was 20.

I tried dope at about 14 and then again at college.

I am not addicted to caffiene can take it or leave it.

Am rather addicted to sugar.

Since DP has been working away and we have been trying to move I haven't been sleeping so well, and too many nights I have been drinking to try and ensure sleep. Like 2/3/4 times a week. But on diet from today so not anymore!! Grin

ruty · 01/03/2006 20:26

i've never been able to take my alcohol, and never had more than one or two drinks. I think mixing drugs and alcohol must be really dodgy.

ruty · 01/03/2006 20:26

whereas taking drugs on its own isn't of course! Grin

Roobie · 01/03/2006 20:44

Mainly a booze and fags girl myself (although not smoked for 15+ years). I've had a drag on a couple of spliffs - once when in Amsterdam & once when a friend of a friend passed one round after the pub - woo hoo. I guess it depends on who you mix with and the general 'scene' you inhabit - I have never been offered any other drugs or would have any idea where to get them. Going to a dealer just seems like such a seedy, 'wrong' thing to do.

Ellbell · 02/03/2006 01:35

Very good question sm. When I was a student I used to drink fairly heavily (once to the point of passing out with my head down the toilet... nice Blush). I have never really smoked (cigarettes). Tried it a few times, but just couldn't get beyond finding it utterly disgusting. I have had the odd spliff and have to say have had only good experiences (though have to admit that I once ended up in a bit of a compromising situation with someone I fancied madly... which would have been fab... if it wasn't for the fact that we were at a party with both his girlfriend and my boyfriend present Blush, Blush and double Blush). Haven't tried anything else... too much of a wimp. These days I barely drink either. Since having dd2 wine makes me feel sick, so I just had the odd beer now and again. Really don't know how I'd feel about my dds experimenting. I know they will (with something - alcohol, drugs, whatever). I think it's important that they feel they can confide in me (and dh - who had a far more colourful past than me!), so I guess when they are old enough we'll be open about our past and try to make sure that they know how to be safe. Don't really know what else we can do... you can't protect them from the big bad world forever. Scary thought though!

CoveredInBees · 02/03/2006 08:16

I like to drink but my intake is really variable
I can go weeks without a drink and not care
but I do like decent wine and champagne and cocktails
I have never smoked
my mum and dad are both heavy smokers and frankly the sound of them coughing their guts up in the bathroom every morning out me off
that and the revolting smell
I have had the very occasional joint but not for years and years
I get embarrassingly frisky

leogaela · 02/03/2006 09:31

I drink (good) wine and beer,
no caffeine (a very, very, very occasional diet coke).

I am a fanatical non-smoker.

I did smoke cannabis from the age of about 16-18, but I saw the negative effects it had on some friends lives, was an occassional cannabis smoker after that and even grew it in the garden (xh's idea), but occassional cannabis smoking isn't a pleasure.

I once bunked an afternoon off school to pick magic mushrooms, took enough for a nice feeling but not off my head.

I also went through a few teenage years and after the breakup with my xh of partying too hard and wakign up too often with a hangover, the drinks were accompanied by a few cigarettes but definitely no other drugs.

I am now really concious of what I put in my body, health is too important and damage doesn't repair. It makes me feel like crying to think of the damage young people do to their bodies when they smoke and take drugs. How can you explain that to them?

theshrimp · 02/03/2006 09:32

i loved E.
Those acid house days were great. Smile
BUT I was in such a haze for ten years forgot to:

climb the career ladder . . .

travel as much as I would have liked . . .

have children (left it too late to have more than one) . . .Sad how stupid is that?

Did have a great time tho'

leogaela · 02/03/2006 09:38

Theshrimp - I wasn't in a daze, but forgot all those things as well (except ds hasn't come too late to have another), I guess I was too busy being married to and looking after a possessive, obsessive, controlling idiot!
