Drugs. Which have you tried?

Everyone's talking about drugs this morning.

These days I'm a regular user of caffeine and alcohol.

I used to be T Total and caffeine-free in the nineties but I did enjoy cannabis regularly and ecstasy and acid less regularly.

I can't imagine taking those these days (with the possible exception of the odd spliff Wink, because I'm too busy with the kids and can't afford to step out of the real world these days.
I also wonder how I'll feel if and when my kids decide to experiment.

How about you?

I am a huge hypocrite and will positively discourage my son from trying it although I know that peer pressure and curiosity beat a nagging mum any day but I am hoping that the fact that we talk openly about these things will get rid of some of the mystery and he has also seen what it has done to sevweral people we know and now at 11 he is putting 2 and 3 together

Kama yes I see what you mean. But what would you do if your kids were experimenting as adults in a relatively safe and sensible manner ( eg unlike luckytobealive? )

(luckytobealive you poor thing sounds like you really are lucky to have got out of that one!)

interesting thread - I seem to remember the last drugs one kicked off...will wait and see.
cigarettes - full on smoker age 15-28; part-time smoker (pregnancies excepted) since. now right down to 1 or 2 a month
cannabis - occassional as an undergraduate, everyday as a post-grad/in mid twenties
ecstasy and coke - 2 or 3 times. very glad my dh didn;t like e cos I would have been there every weekend if he had, which would not have been a good thing.
Our approachh with the girls will be honesty - I can;t see the point of zero tolerance and I can't see the point of denying stuff like the fact that drugs can be enjoyable. The problem with that is you undermine your own integrity. If you tell your kids that they're rubbish and damaging - when/if they discover that actually they're not rubbish what reason do they have to believe what you said about them being damaging?

Nearly all of my bad drug use was during my 20s.

My experience has taught me that all drugs are not created equal and that there are different types of drug user.

I firmly believe there is no safe way to take addictive drugs like heroin and crack - they ruin lives, pure and simple but everybody thinks that for some reason things will be different for them.

Funnily the drug I really feel is much more harmful than what people let on is cannabis - it causes paranoia and depression in some people and can bring on mental illness in people who may already be susceptible. But if my children took it then I would deal with it sensibly and not with hysterics. If my child took heroin I would totally freak out.

Bluejelly - it really is down to luck I think and an element of being from a really good family and maybe having some self worth that helped me see the light. But mainly luck and not sticking with it long enough before it ruined my life and/or killed me

I agree on cannabis - I have seen it totally destroy someone (I'm talking prison, schizophrenia, being sectioned and loosing just about every friend he ever had) - there are obviously other factors but I and everyone else who knows this person believe 100 percent that cannabis had a large role to play

When I was in that realtionship, taking Heroin I thought I was fine and in control and nobody could tell me anything else although I hated what was happening to BF

It is only retrospect that has allowed me to see the truth

Nobody would ever guess it about me, I have a very good job and tell nobody exceot very close friends, DH and some family

Alcohol and caffeine

No other drugs at all, except for medicinal use.

For pain relief I have had heroin and morphine, while in hospital

on an off smoker- just about to quit again in next few days

booze- every weekend at mo, but had various stages of being rat arsed all the time

weed- when feel like it but havent had any for a couple of years

speed- have taken it on occasions when younger

Thought twice about posting this but any RL people that know me on here now about it and if any family read it it was a long long time ago and I've obviously survived.

All done in my clubbing days and alot. Last time was over 10 years ago.

Ketamine is another I would have liked to have tried, but was never offered.

Any hallucinogen, I'm curious about, frankly. Never got offered mesc, and the synthetic mesc I tried really didn't do much (probably didn't help that it was a powder, to snort, which is a drug delivery method I don't really like, efficient though it is).

Oh, I had morphine after having DS1. Didn't like it at all, it made me throw up. Entomox is nice, though.

I've had ketamine, but not on purpose. Lots of E's in the late 90s contained it. One could always tell by the totally unspeedy, locked-to-your-seat nature of the experience. I know some people loved it but it certainly wasn't for me. Isn't it a horse tranquiliser? Bloody feels like it too.

It is some sort of vetrinary drug. But it's a short-duration hallucinogen on humans.

Ibogaine sounds great, but it's 36 hours (!!). It is used to stop addictions, and appears to end addictions in people who don't even want to quit the things they're addicted to.

I heard of some NYC folks who took it on a whim, one of whom was a heroine addict, and they all stopped all their addictions, even smoking!

Yes I've heard of Ibogaine. You'd think it would be big news by now.

DMT though. That's another thing altogether. 20 minutes-ish in duration but Shock Shock Shock!

All my experiences with medical drugs have been bad, other than entomox. I had epidurals for both babies (c-sections, no choice) and hated that.

had about 3 fags in life - during the 4 times i've ever been drunk. How come i jave mainly got drunk with smokers????

HAted being drunk, didn;t do it til i was 20.

Never tried drugs have never even been curious.

Love my tea, but we only have decaff anything at home.

my worst addiction was probably with self harm between 18 and 22 (and once of twice in pg and i think twice in dds first 6 months of life)

Prob addicted to sugar.

Only have alcohol if having wine with a meal really now. I don't see the point really was i get tipsy sooooo fast it's a waste.

i smoked skunk once, in the czech republic, and it was extremely odd. I was bolted to my seat and my vision narrowed to a point. Someone told me it was spiked with LSD, but maybe that's always the case with skunk, i don't know.

Skunk can certainly be very strong. Too strong. It gives other weed a bad name. I gather it's the weed of choice for young people these days, [sigh]
