Drugs. Which have you tried?

Everyone's talking about drugs this morning.

These days I'm a regular user of caffeine and alcohol.

I used to be T Total and caffeine-free in the nineties but I did enjoy cannabis regularly and ecstasy and acid less regularly.

I can't imagine taking those these days (with the possible exception of the odd spliff Wink, because I'm too busy with the kids and can't afford to step out of the real world these days.
I also wonder how I'll feel if and when my kids decide to experiment.

How about you?

Pruni · 01/03/2006 11:18

GDG is just saying that in case JoolsToo reads it.
She was a crack ho before the kids came along, no?

GDG · 01/03/2006 11:19

Decaff coffee.

Don't drink coke or any other fizzy drink (maybe if at the pub but that's not often)

spidermama · 01/03/2006 11:20

You're a rarity GDG. Smile

I remember watching one of those programnmes on BBC2 where famous people talk about how they'd do things differently. There were many distinguished famous Brits in their sixties on the programme saying they wish they had tried more drugs. They feel they've missed the boat now, but would love to know how it feels to be, for example, ee'd up.

No, I was a good girl. There's not much JT doesn't know about me!

My brothers - now, they lived their teenage years! Grin

fastasleep · 01/03/2006 11:23

I don't eat much chocolate, have two cups of tea a day max, don't drink fizzy drinks, hate coffee... I don't drink, I'm a saint me!

Have tried a few things before kids though Grin... and I'm only 18 so who knows (I would never take anything that could screw me up or make me ill now that I have children though... thank god I know that pot doesn't make me paranoid, or I'd be a very boring person forever more!)

I was amazed once by a certain set of people who were completely blase and ok with cocaine taking but then acted all shocked at the thought of smoking a spliff!!

Personally I prefer pot cookies, yum!

geekgrrl · 01/03/2006 11:24

lots of cannabis & booze from 16 - 21, I used to smoke cigs too but only 4 a day or so.

Nothing now - not even caffeine. I do drink wine, but such piddly amounts (quarter of a glass 2 or 3 times a week) that surely it doesn't really count as alcohol consumption? I guess I also enjoy the odd single malt, but again have a tiny amount, half a shot or so.

I just feel that with having children I always need to be fully functional, at all times.

tiredemma · 01/03/2006 11:26

have tried most drugs except for heroin and crack, had a very experimental teenage and early twenties years.

id like to think that i have enough knowledge about drugs to be able to give good advice to my children.

fastasleep · 01/03/2006 11:27

Ooh I would never take pot or get drunk in the house with my kids around never ever ever... possibly slightly tiddly on Christmas day when they're old enough to look after themselves...

Fimbo · 01/03/2006 11:27

Experimented with underage drinking - Micky Finn's as we used to call them in Scotland. My friend's dad had a bar in the house and we used to pour small amounts of vodka, bacardi, whisky etc into meri-mate bottles then top the bottles back up with water. Used to smoke cigarettes then met dh who persuaded me to stop. Have never tried drugs.

Dh is a saint - no smoking/drugs etc but did like a good drink at Uni and puked up all over a fruit machine once (yuk!)

spidermama · 01/03/2006 11:27

I would like to give up coffee. I'm so addicted though that I know I'm looking at a week or two of bad, flu like symptoms so it's choosing the right time. I don't seem to be able to do it gradually. It's all or nothing.

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 01/03/2006 11:28

I am addicted to caffeine

Tried pretty much everything (some for a long time!), not interested in any of it any more

spidermama · 01/03/2006 11:28

Isn't Micky Finn a DJ Fimbo?
Yes he is. I've remembered, he's a drum and bass DJ. M-M-M-M-Micky Finn! etc.
Ahhhh! Those were the days. Smile

OP posts:
spidermama · 01/03/2006 11:30

I'd forgotton about meri-mate Fimbo. That would probably give me hallucinations these days with all the additives. Wink

LOL SM- we used to get drunk then go roller-skating - it was great because you had no fear of falling over. >

JoolsToo · 01/03/2006 11:31

argh had lovely post ready and system crashed :(

anyhow I'm a coke addict ... diet coke with lemon that is Grin

How would I feel if kids want to try stuff... well I've done it (spliffs but they're wasted on me as I just go to sleep) and always hated my parents response i.e. 'I've done it it's not good so you can't do it'. Here's blissfully hoping that once my kids reach teenage status they'll still talk to me Grin. I'd rather they tell me than do it secretly so at least it can be guided in some small way.

Same goes for tatooes really... dh has one so can't really say no, but we'd make them think about it long and hard Smile

podkin · 01/03/2006 11:34

Went through a wild phase in my early thirties (late starter !) where I took virtually everything bar heroin. E was the main thing - had some great times. Now with 2 kids it's all faded away and rightly so. I have a couple of glasses of wine of an evening, the very occasional spliff, no coffee (plenty of tea though), no ciggies (apart from spliff), and only eat chocolate and sweet things when I am preggers. A lot of my peer group are still doing it - the oldest swingers in town - sad that they haven't moved on. I might still go out clubbing if I get the chance - for old times sake, although would probably spend the whole night worrying about having to deal with kids when I got back. Plus would probably get mistaken for drug dealers moll now I am 38 - bit past it really Grin

sparklymieow · 01/03/2006 11:34

between 15-17 I used drugs, took e's, speed, acid and smoked cannabis. Now am a very light drinker (ie 1 drink on a night out, very rarely) and a smoker.

QE2 · 01/03/2006 11:36

Another Sandra Dee here too. Smoked from the age of 17 til about 26 but would never touch them now. Had half a puff of a spliff which was being passed around at a party once when I was about 23 - too scared to inhale even that.

Never ever had the desire to try anything else and can't understand people who do tbh.

WideWebWitch · 01/03/2006 11:37

Currently: only alcohol and caffeine. I gave up smoking 3 years ago

Enid, was your experimental stage anything like mine? Hmm:

cannabis, quite a lot as a teenager/v early twenties and then stopped totally at about 21
LSD (only once, at Stonehenge when I was 16)
Cocaine, recreationally in my twenties, ocasional weekends and parties only
Speed, ditto
Ecstacy, only once when I was 27, hated it, nothing ecstatic about it at all ime!
Heroin - every day for a week with a glamourous boyfriend when I was 18 and then I stopped and never did it again - we were smoking it, not injecing btw

Er, that's it, I couldn't imagine ever doing any drugs ever again, I really dislike the idea intensely. And I hope my children never touch any of them tbh, I have no idea what I'll say if they ask me, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it I suppose, it does worry me though.

spidermama · 01/03/2006 11:46

I agree wharfrat that it would be a bad idea to do acid when you have children.

However, if I thought I'd never get to do acid again in my life, I'd be very upset. It has done so much for me.

spidermama · 01/03/2006 11:48

Podkin your post could have been written by me. only I have four kids and I'm 39. Smile

Personally I don't regret my past, 95% of it was great fun and although i took risks i was generally quite sensible (well sort of)
But hate to think of my dd in that seedy and rather superficial world...
I guess a classic case of one rule for me, one rule for her...
Really hoping she turns out to be a geek
