Drugs. Which have you tried?

Everyone's talking about drugs this morning.

These days I'm a regular user of caffeine and alcohol.

I used to be T Total and caffeine-free in the nineties but I did enjoy cannabis regularly and ecstasy and acid less regularly.

I can't imagine taking those these days (with the possible exception of the odd spliff Wink, because I'm too busy with the kids and can't afford to step out of the real world these days.
I also wonder how I'll feel if and when my kids decide to experiment.

How about you?

Shouldn't think I'll do that again, but would like to do e - you're more or less guaranteed a good night out, even if the dj is spinning 2 plates on a cardboard box and everyone looks soooo beautiful...

spidermama · 01/03/2006 13:14

I never felt bad the day after acid. Funny that. Other stuff has hang over effects on me (alcohol, coffee, E,) but never acid. On the contrary I always have great clarity and feel pretty clean and healthy the next day.

I once asked a boyfriend, casually "what do we normally talk about?".

He was sober, and not very cheerful about it.

Oh, I miss hallucinogens. I'd happily settle for shrooms. Oh, and there's a 36-hour hallucinogen now, ibogaine? I think?

spidermama · 01/03/2006 13:15

Yes podkin. You're always amongst mateson E aren't you? Best mates in fact. All of them. Every last one. The music's unparalleled too.Grin

My baby has just pushed his empty pushchair down a flight of stairs. Shock
I think that means 'Get off mumsnet and take me out' so I will.

Fastasleep, some "holier than thouers" have come on to this thread but they have benen ignored by the others who are floating around in their drug fuelled haze. I swear some of you are high on the memory of the drugs you have taken!

spacedonkey · 01/03/2006 13:17

I didn't like acid at all (only tried it once and it really creeped me out, plus I fell into a deep depression for a week afterwards) but mushrooms were great fun (last time I had mushrooms [pre kids btw!] I ate several fingers of fudge without taking the wrappers off Grin ). Smoked dope in teens/early twenties but completely gave it up because it stopped me from doing anything.

Nowadays I smoke cigs but rarely drink. Sometimes have coke but it makes me feel dreadful for days afterwards (fun at the time though) - I don't think I'll do it again tbh.

Never tried speed or Es - too scared. Ditto crack or heroin.

NotQuiteCockney · 01/03/2006 13:18

I had no hangover from E. Which made me very very nervous around it. I guess I'm part puritan, I expect to pay for my indulgences.

Oh, my favourite acid memory was watching Brazil (which I have seen about a billion times). Only it was a claymation version, suddenly.

That same night, a friend and I were in a cafe, and everyone turned to lizards. The waitress was really scary.

fastasleep, acid seems to have different effects on different people. It really suits me, and I love it, but if you're interested in hallucinogens, you probably should start with something milder, like mushrooms.

fastasleep · 01/03/2006 13:21

PMSL!!

What would you guys do if in 2,5,10 years time your kid googles...finds this, you won't have a leg to flipping stand on!

I'm not taking anything unless I'm away for a long weekend and it's wuite mild! Weirdly I'd rather try drugs than get drunk though, I find alcohol really scary (thanks mum!)

fastasleep · 01/03/2006 13:22

...I don't need drugs to be high.... oooh... wooooh...look at my funky typing......

staying up till midnight + attempting to clean for a few weeks runnig is enough to make you sort of altered...

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

NotQuiteCockney · 01/03/2006 13:23

I have no idea what I'll say to my kids about drugs. I think I'll tell them the truth? No idea, really.

Thankfully, DS1 is only 4 now, so I have a while to figure something out.

blondie82 · 01/03/2006 13:33

used to hate the major comedowns that E's used to give me for a couple of days after. but at the time it was great, you just loved everyone and they was your best mate.....
if i didnt have dd, would definitely do mushrooms again. :o

wannaBe1974 · 01/03/2006 13:34

Anybody found anything that will let you function properly with only 4h sleep a night? Grin

Klauz33 · 01/03/2006 13:36

I smoked huge amount of dope until mid 20's.

I drank huge amounts of booze when I was in my late teens early 20's then gave up binge drinking in mid 20's.

Loved speed, which I discovered in mid 20's, because I could dance all night. Boyfriend who didn't have a proper job and part of a london scene. I remember being in a club in London on a wednesday night and people being suprised that i was going home at 1am. Then I remembered none of them had jobs that involved getting out of bed in the morning. At the time I was doing my legal training contract - it was the speed or the law?? Luckily the law won and I ditched the speed.

Well thought the booze and the dope was seriously uninteresting. Did like the speed, bit of coke and ectasay as well - as they took me to places that I would never had probably gone to. That feeling of going home when every one else is getting up on a saturday morning.

The removal from reality is of course dangerous, but I am glad that I did it for a few years.

DP has done pretty much everything in much more extreme personal circumstances than me and he is much more anti-drugs than me. I still have romantic feelings about it, maybe because I never reached the depths of despair where drugs do appear to be the answer.

fisil · 01/03/2006 13:43

Smoked from 18 until we decided to start thinking about starting a family (oh, and nicked one or two of CD's since)

Drank like a fish at uni and throughout my 20s. Now really can't be bothered.

Occassionally at uni late in the evening a spliff would get passed around but the only effect it ever had on me was to send me straight to sleep, so I really could not see the point.

And yes, I will tell my children when they ask.

podkin · 01/03/2006 13:46

I have to say, staying up all night and into part of the next day whilst on Class A's did actually help to prepare me for motherhood and those sleepless nights. Although trying to quieten a cooing, trilling, 'ready for a new day' baby at 3am, is just slightly less fun than sitting around with your mates, getting lost in conversational cul de sacs, and staring at a speck of dust over by the door...

Gizmo · 01/03/2006 13:47

Does entonox count?

nailpolish · 01/03/2006 13:49

ive tried everything except crack coke and heroin

i have to say, ecstasy and speed are bloody brilliant. there you go. miss those nights out at the Arches with my ecto down my bra! and sprinkling the speed in my G&T before heading out the door. ah well. would look a bit daft now, im too old. and responsible.

didnt really like dope - was crap at rolling my own, too messy.

still smoke fags, and have a drink on a night out, dont drink coffee

managed to stop drinking and smoking for a year during both pg's, unfortunately started again when i went back to work after mat leave. daft i know.

i do sometimes wonder what i will say to dd's if they ever ask about my mis-spent youth

dh of course is an angel and doesnt smoke and has never touched drugs

fastasleep · 01/03/2006 13:57

MBD I think it's speed we need... I'm sure all the mums with clean houses who are size 8s are secret speed freaks!

They nicked my idea for that desperate houswives episode I tell you!

bluejelly · 01/03/2006 13:59

Podkin you are right, i always thought my experiences of going three days without sleep helped me get through the early newborn days!
Quite loving this thread. Life is so tame/sensible now but like to be reminded that I was reckless once.
(God I sound sad don't I?)

MrsBigD · 01/03/2006 14:00

what's a size 8??? Grin

a long long time ago my GP put me on betablockers to loose weight.... alas they're illegal now LOL

fastasleep · 01/03/2006 14:04

Not that I've ever seen a 'dealer' what do they look like?

MrsBigD · 01/03/2006 14:05

fastasleep · 01/03/2006 14:08
