wise words from topsy Smile Will join you for chocs later,am off to try on specs at the SpecSavers -feel v disloyal towards my own optician but SpecSavers offer a free pair of prescription sunglasses which would be extremely useful.

Figgyroll · 16/06/2012 12:00

Morning all, bacon sarnies available and lashings of Brew.

Gracie - those hobbit feet could be mine but my toenails are a lot prettier. [grin}

Topsy, hope the cold buggers off soon. Good idea to watch a film snuggled on the sofa. Can you understand Swedish then or are you just watching it for a glimpse of Daniel Craig's body?

MAS, we all use Speccysavers here and are huge fans. We can't fault their service, after care and prices. Of course, this varies from branch to branch but we always recommend them to friends. I recently got two pairs of presciption sunglasses for the price of one and they were invaluable on holiday. Of course, since we arrived back I haven't had the need for them. Bloody weather.

DH and DS1 have pootled off in the car somewhere laden down with their camera equipment. I think their plan is to photograph locks, streams, rivers and little waterfalls today followed by a lunch in a country pub. DS2 and I are headed off to our local park/recreation ground for a "kickabout". Wish me luck!!!! Then tonight we're off out with dear friends (3 other couples) for a meal and plenty of laughs.

Hope everyone is having a dry and sunny Saturday.

smee · 16/06/2012 12:43

Ooh, thought I'd lost you. Blimey page two and I haven't even provided bunting. Hurling some in now, squishing down next to Topsy to snaffle her chocs. Smile.

Topsy, that post made me nearly shed a tear. Sometimes it's good to remember how bloody hard all this is. Hope you don't get delayed next week. Can imagine in a way it's far easier just to be in the thick of it than waiting.

Same for you too, Gig. Glad to hear footie and your DSS's results are distracting. Starting chemo's scary. Think we'd all acknowledge that. How long will you be in for with yours? I can't remember.

Wishing little Lime a happy birthday party and to say well done on getting through that scan. I'd bet the neck thing's arthritis. Hope you get results v.soon.

Hugely big HOORAY for MAS and her clear mammo. Smile Smile

MJennie didn't reply on last thread, but t had implants both times, so not the full on reconstruction. Are you having rads? That can change your skin, so I was told (2 years ago mind) that they won't do full reconstruction straight off, as the rads can damage it. I had to have my implant switched due to damage, but they told me right from the start that would probably happen, so was expecting it. Hope you're feeling okay today. What a sod about the Olympics thing. How long after op are your tickets for?

Ned how are you?? Hope not too bad.

Hope kurri and her DH have a calm weekend and lovely birthday celebrations for her mum.

Right, no time to post to more, so am waving and hoping we're all well. Off to the park to meet a friend and her DD this afternoon, so of course it will rain..

smee · 16/06/2012 12:44

All this silver jubilee talk has reminded me of 1977 - our primary did fancy dress. Bet you'll never guess what completely irrelevant (not to mention embarrassing!) costume my mum put me in.. Grin

topsyturner · 16/06/2012 13:02

Dolly Parton ???

jchocchip · 16/06/2012 13:11

Lazing around today, can't seem to get going :( Wet weather doesn't help, too muddy to get on with the garden.

smee · 16/06/2012 13:34

Grin at Topsy. Wrong... running out now. I have a v.funny picture will put up in my profile later, but keep guessing.

graciesmall09 · 16/06/2012 13:42

Bay City Rollers!

Baskets45 · 16/06/2012 14:11

Re Bay City Rollers, where I grew up in Glasgow, they were local boys. Till gracie posted I was having total blank/middle aged woman moment about who were 'in' in the 70s, and couldn't ask DH (who has prodigious memory for events of decades ago but hopeless one for minutes ago) as he is out.

With mas and others on joys of Specsaver. I WANT prescription sunglasses too, despite living in 'the north' with limited sunshine. I'll need to dye my hair purple, carry lots of placky bags, and just wear them in all weather (like eccentric old bag lady, i mean, in case imagery not clear!)

topsyturner · 16/06/2012 14:31

Cliff Richards ?

topsyturner · 16/06/2012 14:38

No !
I have it .
Johnny Rotten !!!
Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/06/2012 15:42

have a lovely afternoon and evening out figgy !
and smee have fun in the park. Can't think of what costume you might be wearing smee Will go and think...
is it junior lime's party ? hope it is fab !
SpecSavers were great- very helpful and eventually after much trying on and asking dh whether I looked like an insect in lots (those curvy glasses) chose 2 pairs which I think will be just right - very exciting ! Of course they were more expensive than I'd set out to buy but still a better deal than my opticians.
I've never had 2 pairs of specs at the same time !
Must do some work as we're terribly behind today owing to spec choosing.

KurriKurri · 16/06/2012 17:52

happy weekend to all, enjoy your activities - kickabout sounds brave Figgy Grin

topsy - you have brought a tear to my eye too, -with that very moving post.
Loads of hugs to you and everything crossed that your chemo goes ahead as planned and cold disappears.

A slightly disasterous day for me today, - spent the afternoon at the walk in centre, - I have shingles. Again. (had it before when I was on chemo) - its round my eye and blooming painful, I've got anti viral tablets and anti viral eye cream, and been told to go to a & e if vision is affected or pain behind my eye. Oh joy - but I'm hoping I've caught it a bit earlier this time and the antivirals will knock it on the head.

So - not going down to mum's until next weekend now.

Smee - I want to see this picture GrinGrin

smee · 16/06/2012 18:08

Oh no, Kurri that's so annoying, not to say painful. How long did it last when you had it before.

Have uploaded my picture to make you laugh. Am sure you'll see how pissed off I am what I mean.. Grin

MAS, glad you got your specs. Don't work too hard, 'tis Saturday. Smile

Baskets, I used to lurve Eric Faulkener - he of the big hair. My mum wouldn't let me have a tartan scarf as she said it was a fad. Hmm

KurriKurri · 16/06/2012 18:19

Is your picture on facebook Smee? - I haven't got that Sad When everyone has had a chance to see it, let me know who you went as, - I am extremely curious Grin

Last time I had shingles it it was quite nasty for about 3 weeks then gradually improved. Hope it goes a bit quicker this time, I have to take horse pills five times a day - yum!

MAS specs sound good - glad you got some you like, I find choosing specs terribly difficult - I never know what suits me.

I was lucky enough to be too old for the Bay City Rollers, I pretended to be keen on David Cassidy because everyone at school liked him, - but I wasn't really bothered about him, and thought he looked a bit wet Grin

Elibean · 16/06/2012 18:20

Oh NO, Kurri, my shingles-twin, no re-runs!! Ouch, it all comes flooding back when I read your words - you poor love, total sympathy and yes, very good you caught it early and have the anti-virals. They worked really well for me, and the rash didn't spread after I started them - but they don't stop the tiredness. I kept thinking I should be better, and wasn't, for several weeks.

So please tuck yourself up with treats and distractions, and nurturing things for soul and body alike - and get well soon xx

Smee, I've tried to resist but can't help myself: what on earth was it you got dressed up as?!? Can't see your pics, so please divulge!!

Baskets45 · 16/06/2012 18:39

Oh poor Kurri. Sorry you've got shingles. Hope it's not too painful, but as others say good you've got horse pills promptly, but shame you'll not see your mammy this weekend.

I can see smee's pic on MN profile but I don't recognise, but agree, smee, yolu don't look best pleased!

I've just had a quick glance through Wikipedia (so my facts must be correct) and it seems BCR were all exclusively Embra boys, so no idea what the link with Glasgow was - unless they lived there, in my vicinity, after they hit 'big time'. Not sure I care really - I didn't then either but lots of my peers did. Funny thing memory, mine at any rate!!

Hope Topsy's Swedish has come along apace. I've been thinking about what you said this AM too - brought a wee tear to my eye too. And your dd is clearly au fait with kurri's pink blanket therapy, a sharp girl.

Hope KK will be able to give self some 'blanket therapy' too. And your poor DH. It must feel like it never stops happening sometimes.

I've delegated the cooking of dinner to 2 sons. i have lost my ability to taste/smell properly, feel nauseated around cooking, not sure why exactly, probably just 'baskets syndrome', so delegate it as far as poss. I don't think these two need supervision so off to do something 'nice' for me - lie on bed and listen to music, I think. And then a wee walk/run before bed. Exciting life i lead ....

KurriKurri · 16/06/2012 18:40

I know Elibean - I hope its not going to make an appearance every time I get a bit run down (although I didn't think I was especially run down Confused)

I have a load of library books, a duvet and DH is making the meal, so I'm just going to chill out. I don't feel especially ill atm, just want to claw at my eye to stop the prickling and itching!

topsyturner · 16/06/2012 18:41

Smee Hahahahahahahaaaaaaaa !
Sorry , but hahahahahahaaaaaaaa !
The best part is the girl standing next is giving you a "what the feck ?" look .

KK poor you . Were you really sick the last time you had them ? What rotten bad luck to get them twice !

I am seriously thinking of going to Specsavers for my next set of glasses Mas , I just don't think I can afford the cost of my independant optician any more .
And I want sunglasses this time too !

Spent the day in bed , dozing and watching tv .
Still don't feel much better , but have another day yet to get over it .
DH is making dinner , I don't hold out much hope ...

KurriKurri · 16/06/2012 18:44

Oh just seen your photo Smee - haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa GrinGrin you look so thrilled with your costume, that has cheered me up no end Grin

topsyturner · 16/06/2012 18:50

Feckitty Feck , just lost a post !

Baskets yes thanks to this mornings film and BBCs excellent The Bridge , I now consider myself fluent in Swedish Grin

And sorry if I depressed anyone with this mornings ramble !

Can't remember what else I wrote , brain definitely on a go slow ...

KurriKurri · 16/06/2012 19:00

topsy did you watch Borgen when it was first on? - It's being repeated - DD and I are recording it so we can watch all the episodes at once. (First episode was last week but will still be on iplayer I should think - BBC 4)

smee · 16/06/2012 19:01

Waving to Elibean, have added you to my list of those who can see my profile so you can laugh at me

Is funny - was a parade for the Jubilee. Everyone else was in red, white and blue. Grin

How you feeling, Kurri? Would a glass of Wine help you stop scratching?

amberlight · 16/06/2012 19:08

Aha! Found you!

leaves Wine out

topsyturner · 16/06/2012 19:38

Have added Borgen to my sky+ list .
I only discovered it a few episodes in last time and it was far too confusing to follow !
